Damn there are really a lot of repeat bosses? A reviewer I was watching claimed there were 75+ unique bosses.

There's like three tiers of bosses.
-The Big Boys, including shardbearers, superbosses, and endgame bosses
-Unique bosses that aren't quite as important to the main story; tend to have achievements associated with them as well, though many of them get reused once with a similar name and adjusted moveset (sometimes justified as being literally the same character at a different stage of their life)
-The scrubs, who fill up overworld dungeons and just the landscape. Includes lots of smaller humanoids, giant living tree roots, robo dogs, dragons and wyrms, and other such things.

There is quite a lot of a bosses in all, and the big boys are the quality of DS3 or Bloodborne. But the others pretty much all get repeated at least once with a 'twist'.

I got a lot of DS2 vibes when I looked through an all bosses video. There were lots of bosses and they were mostly boring. Elden Ring's take on Ganon was kinda cool though.

There's a lot of repeats and frankly some mediocre stuff in the optional overworld dungeons that exist to give stuff to do in the overworld. The 12 'important' bosses are all quite good. I made a poll on the PS4 Elden Ring board and favorites were pretty well split.

Trying two types, both Tomcat brand because that's all Target had.

One is a snap trap that sort of looks like those tooth clips you seal chip bags with. The other is a pre-baited box called 'mouse killer' that purports to be able to kill 12 mice per box (and comes with 4 boxes). I guess this one uses poison, I don't know how I feel about it though because I think they can leave after eating the poison, which means they could crawl off and die somewhere I can't reach or see them.

They seem very cozy.

So apparently they patched Kenneth Haight and Nepehli's quests to actually finish, but it turns out they're reliant on Gostoc (the guy who steals your runes at Stormveil if you don't kill him) being alive.

I wonder if they patched in or will patch in the thing for Alexander.

Upon rewatch I actually like early Bashir quite a bit. He's the (relatively) young & inexperienced bright-eyed kid whose naivete balances out a crew of cynical war heroes, terrorists and spies.

Both those characters certainly pick up complexity over time though.

Not enough space for Margit, Fire Giant, or Dragonlord... sorry! I wanted to prioritize shardholders.

The biggest pleasant surprise to me was Hoarah Loux, a grappler boss was really awesome and I feel like they were inspired by Senator Armstrong. His grabs have got to be the cartooniest shit From has ever put in a game and I loved it. I was also wondering where he was all game after getting the first shout out in the opening cinematic.

Biggest thing for me was Jojo All Star Battle remaster with 9 new characters. Really hoping for my boy Jobin!

FromSoft games actually have an enormous community of people that desire to be helpful and friendly, and meticulously document not just item locations but full strategies on how to beat fights. Unfortunately though, the 'unapologetic difficulty' theme of the games has caused the toxic people (which are in every community) to be much more comfortable being shitty and loud.

What I really appreciate about FromSoft games is that you just get straight into the gameplay. I tried to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider a while back and it was just talking, talking, talking. Couldn't even skip a cutscene or anything because the talking was in-engine.

That shit is unbearable. If I want to hear (good) talking, I'd watch a movie or TV show, or play something like Ace Attorney or Disco Elysium. I'm just not willing to sit through all that shit I don't care about to get to the actual gameplay.

Elden Ring is just gameplay gameplay gameplay. Talking comes in two minute bites before a big boss fight and the rest is digestible at your leisure when inspecting items and stuff. From Soft understands the idea of "show, don't tell." A ton of big AAA games don't get that anymore. Any game with multiple trailing missions is unbearable to me.

That's really an Arcane thing though, the dragon communion seal scales with Arcane. Plus it won't help you against the game's hardest boss.

Running to it as you evade its crazy attacks is cool though, plus it comes to you all the time like at the end of the giant sky ring attack, or when it comes in with its sword.

Intelligence, maybe. Faith really doesn't have any particular boss-slaying utilities. Just about every Faith tool is niche and while there's some stuff that works great on specific bosses, in general Faith cannot cut it as a pure caster. They have very little in the way of a quick spell that's cheap and does non-trivial damage; Faith loses outright in the mana economy vs intelligence or even just the best Ash of War skills.

I rewatch Death Note every year or so, at least 70% of the complaints or criticisms of major story beats are due to people being straight up too stupid to even listen to the characters' own verbalizations of their intentions.

Death Note is smart characters written smartly, Code Geass is smart characters written stupidly. Tension in Death Note comes from the chaeacters' plans being laid out and then them adapting to the unexpected and improvising on the fly. Tension in Code Geass comes from building up some crazy force that should fuck Lelouch and then him handwaving to victory by revealing he did something off screen ten minutes ago that took care of everything.

Remember when that years-in-the-making fan mod/expansion for New Vegas came out and it was mediocre and featured several weird fetish moments?

The fact that Light killed the fake L already largely confirmed L's psychological profile of him; the whole reason Light killed the fake was that he challenged his moral convictions by saying "what you're doing is evil." L's further comments were an extension of that provocation, he wanted Light to continue acting in ways that would expose himself.

Not counting Sekiro because it's not as much a Souls-like (love that final boss too though).

I like that it subverts the typical sad old man final boss.

There's a thread on /v/ right now of a guy actually doing a run where he doesn't talk to Melina, so he has no horse and cannot level up. Currently they're trying to figure out a way into the capitol because apparently they keep the fingers seal there even if you have several great runes if you don't talk to melina.
