Dunno if I posted about it already but Mohg the Omen was as hard for me as Margit was early game. Practically all I accomplished last night was defeating Mohg. I could probably write a design document about his moveset.

He pretty much has an answer to every strategy, and in particular he has several moves with very similar yet distinct startups that require different answers to avoid. Eg he has a blood spell where he throws a bloodflame projectile, and it can either be a huge arc you need to roll forward through, or a directed blasted you need to roll perpendicular to. The arc is an underhanded toss while the blast is overhand, and you have very little time between seeing the difference in his arm movement and the attack hitting.

He fights with a trident which is designed to give him extremely deceptive range, since he normally holds it at its middle but can both slide his hand to the bottom for attacks as well as step forward. He can change up how many attacks he'll do and you aren't safe until he brings the trident back to his right side and winds down. Possibly his most annoying move has him spray bloodflame directly in front of him, which has a really janky lingering hitbox that makes attacking him risky, even with a high range poke weapon like a halberd.

There were several times I got him within one hit of death only to flub the attempt

Sure, that may be so, but that's what makes it a learning opportunity then. The reality is that if OP got this angry at Mad Tongue Alberich and especially the game insufficiently telegraphing how to leave the Roundtable, then he's probably not going to enjoy much of the rest of the game, or the other games in FromSoft's catalogue.

If you see a literal whole floor caked in bloodstains it's because something very bad happens there. The only time you that such a concentration appears in an innocuous way is shit like the community suicide cliff in DS2, and that will be localized to the spot people jump off from. And there's no funny cliff on the first floor of roundtable hold.

When I played the whole floor down there was covered in player bloodstains. I knew there would be something dangerous before I jumped.

the bolded part is exactly the problem here. You first get transported to the hold by sitting at a glowy and talking to your maiden lady. So that is how I assume you would return to the main map. But there was no option for that at the round table glowy.

It's very bad conveyance that stacked upon an already frustrating experience with the red man.

What I'm getting from this is you had a very bad time with the invader trying to get your runes back and then never thought to hit the map button

It's bad design. Plain and simple. Subverting expectations is fine but there needs to be a setup for that kind of payoff to be meaningful in any way. This was my first time visiting the round table hold.

It teaches you that any rule can be broken.

If every npc and the game itself is yelling that there's no fighting in the round table area, then don't throw a fucking random fight at me in the round table area. Put a fucking npc next to the room that says "this next place will test your strength, be prepared" or something. Anything.

I'm not even sure if he's actually a fight but I'm really really hoping you get to duel Gideon. And not just as an enemy NPC but a gael-like boss spectacular. I just feel like he deserves it.
