They haven't announced anything, but they do intend to do Jumpstart again. I'd expect it to be the next time there is a lull in new products. Right now they have Amonkhet Remastered with Zendikar Rising on the horizon so plenty for people to spend on.

What's interesting to me (at least right now) is what's not in the set. Other than Liliana, Death Wielder, Nicol Bolas, the Deceiver, and Fraying Sanity they all seem to be bulk rares. There may be a couple I'd play for fun or might have some use in draft (but again, they're rares), but nothing looks like it'd really be missed from Historic.

That's a fault of set design more than the mechanic. When Ghostfire was released in Future Sight it received a bit of love from RDW/burn players because it being colorless did do something - it let the player kill creatures with Protection from Red without really having to change their game plan. What WotC failed to do was make it matter that those spells were colorless. Personally, if I were designing a new set that featured Devoid I'd really take that as a challenge.

It took three tries, but I earned my Day 2 Token. It was frustrating because the deck is designed to beat stuff like goblins and I barely saw any. Two Gobos in my first run, zero in my second and then... two wins away from the end I get two in a row for an easy-ish 7-2. Now I need to put together a sideboard I like.

The Historic event was an absolute blast and did its job on me - I dropped a bit of money to get the cards and wildcards I needed to build some sweet decks. My favourites at the moment are Kethis Combo, Golos Field, and Goblins.

Are you playing any of those in the Arena Open Saturday? I'll be playing mono-W auras in all likelihood. I currently have a 69% win-rate with it which is just right to squeeze through to day 2 with some luck.

Traps could also be quite good. I didn't give much thought to quests because they're a lot like sagas but with far less design flexibility and I think with how much anger/angst there still is regarding 'Nissa who wins the game' that Awaken could definitely receive some backlash.

Also I'm curious where MaRo said Devoid was one of the most unpopular mechanics ever. From what I've seen he's said that players didn't like a keyword that in their minds "did nothing" but on the flip side they also really liked "colorless matters". By that logic players actually did like Devoid, they just nitpicked the fact that WotC introduced a keyword as short hand (Devoid rather than "this card is colorless").

I don't see any reason Devoid has to be tied to Eldrazi. Ghostfire may not have Devoid keyworded to it but it has the mechanic and it isn't connected to the eldrazi. In fact, it's the Ugin reprint that made me think it was a good possibility.

I'm curious why you think Devoid as a mechanic won't ever be coming back. I can't see anything inherently broken about it and it even allows some other mechanics to be pushed a little more (mostly pro/hexproof color).

6 dual lands... that's, odd. Two returning mechanics? Probably Landfall and Devoid.

Set boosters sound like another step in the growing divide between products for players and products for collectors. Imagine if one of those is an ultra rare chase OG Black Lotus art signed by Christopher Rush but printed on a totally different type of card stock. Cool? Yes. Useful? No. Rudy (Alpha Investments) keeps talking about how he thinks WotC is going down the road sports cards have gone down and it seems he's right.

I don't understand why people keep saying the jumpstart event is pricey or in some way a bad value. 400 gems = 2 packs for any set, 400 for the event is 2-4 rares/mythics from the packs plus two from ICRs.

The best pair options I've gotten were Teferi/Mill (Rogues is also really good with Mill) and Vampires/Vampires with Vito and Exquisite Blood.

Feathered Friends/Above the Clouds ended up being one of the worst combos I have had. You'd think (or I did) U/W fliers would be good but it didn't come together well.

Jumpstart has sounded fun to me since it was announced, but I'm sad we won't get to play any kind of in-person release event. It's going to seriously shake up Historic.

Speaking of Historic, I switched to it today from Standard. Even with a 55%+ win rate I was still losing ranks pretty quickly. Since switching to mono blue tempo (historic) earlier today I've only lost twice and I've been climbing right back up since STD and HIST use the same ranked ladder.
