Seriously considering selling my playset of Mox Opals and two playsets of Mox Chromes... anybody know if there's a best place to sell online? Online I'd obviously want cash and not necessarily interested in the hassle and fees of ebay. If I just go for store credit to buy other game stuff I have a few local places for that. I'm definitely in an area where game stores are thriving more than just surviving (I have three game stores within 5 miles that have moved or expanded into more space since the pandemic started. I don't know how much a soul goes for around here, but obviously satan is buying lol).

I did a draft when it was free the other day and I considered Smashing Success, but did cut it. Sorry your draft went bad. Sadly it has to happen to everyone sometime, right?

Congrats. I don't have it in me to sink that much into a sealed event. There's way too much random variance. It's fun enough for a prerelease, but for a serious event the notion that some people are just going to open winning decks and others won't bothers me. Of course some sets are better for sealed than others and can't remember how much the variance mattered in Kaldheim, but I'm going to keep waiting for a format I'm more comfortable with.

*nods* IIRC the first time I played Omniscience I had Peer into the Abyss turn one and it's just broken af. Who cares about losing half your life when you can cast half your deck on turn one? If you grab a few hard counterspells during the draft (better than in a regular draft) maybe the Approach turn one is still beatable, but if you don't open with a counterspell there's nothing you can really do about turn one PitA.

Yeah. I know it's the practical way of doing things, but "win seven, best of one" instead of a proper tournament often just feels dumb. I entered the Pauper tournament day one multiple times and literally went first just twice the entire time. If you saw the meta for that pauper tournament (easily looked like 75%+ mono white aggro, 100% mono X aggro fwiw) you'd know that being on the draw was almost an auto loss.

Then add in the fact that you had to draft, play with special rules, and your opponents weren't even from your draft pod and you have what must be an absolute mess of a format. I'm kind of glad I gave up after rounds 3-4 because that omniscience draft probably would have ended with me throwing my computer out a window.

The last time I played Alchemy was when it was the format for the open. While I do believe there is some audience for it, it has got to be very small. Like standard in paper, it's only really popular when it's forced as a tournament format.

I fucking hate Arena so much. I've been tracking my play/draw numbers for awhile and I've been going first less than 40% of the time. This is over a long enough period to know that going second that much is fucked. They need to fix the penalty that occurs from going second. Even getting the first draw still puts you at a virtual 45/55 in favor of the opponent when you go second. This would not be the case if they would slow the game down, you know, stop power creeping like fucking morons. But hey, creatures that were borderline broken 10 years ago have to be unplayable for some fucking reason, right?

That's indeed the problem he ran into - the timer. I was well above 150 so he needed to push that infinite loop hard. Tbh if he had played faster and or better he would have won, but the real joy wasn't even the W, it was wiping the (imagined) grin off his face when he gave the early GG. I almost conceeded since I figured he probably had me regardless of life total, but I just will not abide bm like that.

Oh god, I just had one of the most glorious games I have ever played. Format - Explorer. Me - Selesnya Angels. Opponent - Mono G Aether Reservoir combo.

Mono G is a new combo that's possible thanks to Nykthos Shrine of Nyx. It utilizes Kiora, Karn the Great Creator, and Pestilent Cauldron//Restorative Burst creating a repeatable loop that effectively gets you infinite mana and with Reservior it ends up getting you a ton of life for activations... and hoo boy did my opponent need a lot of activations. However, what made this so damn sweet was once he had enough life to do me in he gave the early GG. If we were playing in real life and he played exactly like that, the smile on my face would have told him he was giving the wrong GG. He activates reservoir one at a time, uses the final activation that he can afford and bam! Collected Company! I slap down Bishop of Wings #3 (gain 4 life when you play an angel) and Resplendent Angel. After leaving himself with just 5 life there was nothing to stop my army of Giada boosted Angels from flying over and killing him.

Moral of the story, never be the one to say GG first unless you're the one that lost. Otherwise you're being rude, and you never know when an opponent will punish you for it.

King's Bounty: The Conquerors Quest (Genesis)
I first played this as a preteen and even on later attempts just didn't quite get it. Not until later entries in the series did I understand some of the non-spoken strategies you need to engage in. You actually have to play the game pretty much opposite to what you expect and after having learned that fact I beat it in less than 300 "turns" (for those not in the know, hard mode gives you 300 turns and under 200 is a difficulty labled "impossible").

Something to note is that beating this game is actually possible (but highly unlikely) without ever fighting anyone, a unique feature for a turn based strategy game. Like imagine you could beat FFT without a single battle and you have what this game secretly wants you to attempt to do.

I think I could have actually won under 200 turns, but I actually liked, you know, playing turn based strategy fights.

Did you actually follow what they said in it? They said things like "we scaled back m30 to make it more collectable." It was 100% smoke up the asses of investors and when they did address player complaints it was always to say "that's actually not a problem that we're seeing." The whole thing was to say "customer complaints are just a very small, but very vocal minority that have no real impact on our overall sales." It was 100% "everything we've done is correct, just ignore what bank of America said the other day."

Nowhere, not once, did I notice them saying anything even as conciliatory as "we could improve on ____." They told investors everything was alright and they never make any mistakes and don't worry, we are not changing anything about our business model because it's nothing but upwards from here.

If that's noticing that people loathe them in your mind, god help us if they were to put out PR when they actually do something right. They'd probably take out every superbowl ad to say "Hasbro - people love us more than The Beatles, Jesus and Mohammed combined!"

I think they were banking on the fact that collectors edition cards, also not tournament legal, have real value. I mean, if you're wotc/hasbro and you're seeing CE Black Lotus going for 4-6k why wouldn't you think that some dope out there would pay for the chance to open an equally unusable m30 lotus? And if they sold 2300 units then some dopes did indeed pay it. Considering they profit $998 for each one sold, they're probably not even mad that they failed to sell out

That's also my favorite era. It was a a lot cheaper to play the game when there were reprints into standard and no mythics. Plus they really delivered on the story back then, having the fat packs with 6 packs, a book, and a countdown die for basically the cost of the packs. Those books may not have been all that great, but at least they were trying to make a coherent and complete story.

The fact that the set has three versions (four if you count commander decks) kinda speaks to how the three set block was good for the storyline of the games. Beginning, middle, end... that's how you construct a story, right? The problem, I think, was that the developers had a hard time mechanically linking three sets and, maybe, they didn't really need to. I do think at least 2 set blocks would be better than what they're doing now, since it often conflicts with the story or confuses it. New Capenna supposedly not having angels on the plane anymore and suddenly there are a bunch of them in the set is a perfect example of that. Really the only problem with the old 3+1 model was due to an old way of thinking that they could just ignore today if they chose to.

I don't think Urzatron would be bad for standard at all. The last time it was in standard it wasn't even always in meta. I do believe, if memory serves me, after Tooth and Nail rotated out Tron was still in (reprinted in 9th edition) and saw little to no play. It might be better now than it was then (several of the cards with prototype seem pretty good) but I find it unlikely that it breaks the metagame. Hell, I wish it would, the current standard metagame is duller than a doorknob.

The real risk, I'm guessing, is they don't want Tron in Pioneer along side Ugin. That deck can still be piloted to victory in Modern, so adding it to Pioneer could be reckless. Still, I'd rather they try it and drop some bans if they have to than to not try it at all. Considering how tied it is to this particular story line and the lack of a traditional core set (which I deeply miss) I suppose we'll never have Urzatron in standard again.

I actually agree that this is a weird time for Magic, thanks to the greedlords at Hasbro. I'm not going to complain about many of the side projects like secret lairs or commander decks but things like Modern Horizons really bother me. I don't care if someone want Post Malone or Trannsformer cards but I do care about them fucking up tournament formats for the money.

I don't play Modern so I don't even know how problematic Yorion was. But companion as a whole... literally everyone told MaRo it was a bad idea when developing Tempest. I can only assume that it got through the process in Ikoria because WotC is owned by the greedlords at Hasbro now.

As for Meathook Massacre, yeah, that probably needed to go. It's on its surface a sweeper yet completely usable in decks that would almost never want a sweeper. It can not only be a sweeper, it can be a finisher, and it even let's you grind games out. I've played it for X=0 more than any other amount, maybe even more than all other amounts. There's not really a deck type where it's an outright bad addition if you're playing black. Not many cards can fit in with agro, control, midrange, combo, and prison.

Yeah, the new packs are ridiculous. I foresee them selling for a lot less than that in the end since they're giving a bunch of them away for free to WPN stores. They really should have made them tournament legal, as that would guarantee they sell at $1k for four packs.

This isn't a good album, but I don't hate it as much as I would have when it was new. There are a couple of kinda worthy tracks but even the good ones tend to outlive their welcome. The bad ones - they might as well not exist. They really could have cut this down to a 10-15 minute EP and it would have been better, and considering the rabid fanbase at the time, they still could have sold it at the price of a full album.

1 The One - I actually like this, for two minutes. If they let it end when it should have I would say it's a good song.
2 It's Gotta Be You - Just plain, dumb, dance fuel. I respect it for what it is.
3 Larger Than Life - Goofy, cheeseball, kiddie such and such. As with most of the album, I'd respect it more if it was a bit shorter.
4 Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely - everything about this, title included, is too long and boring.
5 Don't Want You Back
6 Back to Your Heart - Oof, the cheese. Yet another song I was ready to be done with 2 minutes in.
7 I Need You Tonight
8 No One Else Comes Close
9 The Perfect Fan
10 Don't Wanna Lose You Now
11 Spanish Eyes
12 I want it that way - I wish I could purge this from my memory

The Japanese did it many years ago, getting there first with, iirc, Hayabusa. Even a few years ago (2018) Osiris Rex managed this (I know a few people who worked on that project as it was built here in Tucson). In fact, the sample from that mission is expected to return in 2023 then the craft will go on to explore Apophis which may actually be a threat to Earth.

So, Georgia Ellery is having an amazing year artistically, but my own rules prevent me from nominating both despite the two works sounding nothing alike...

I've come to believe that Bowser doesn't actually capture Peach so much as she's got a weird fetish where she needs Mario to save her for her to get off. No kink shaming.

Since we're assuming DK gets all powers I'd say Peach gets all powers and I think that's enough for her to win. She puts him to sleep then hits him while rage vibing. Let's not forget, she's not only picked up boulders larger than her she's lifted up rocket ships that were buried underground in a single motion. Her in-game feats of strength are incredible. Having someone that strong smash you over the head with a frying pan while you're asleep? Not a good day for anybody. Having that person invincible and literally burning anything she touches makes that day even worse.

Saw In Half might have some potential. I'm admittedly not very familiar with Legacy since I haven't played it in 15+ years, but if you could cheat in Agent of Treachery and then Saw In Half it that seems pretty good. I'm sure an actual Legacy player could come up with something even better, but if you pull it off "steal three permanents and draw six cards" sounds good to me.

Actually it's also playable in Vintage and Legacy as well. Anything with an oval holofoil is meant to be played in any format that uses "all cards." I'm not sure this is good enough for those formats, though. I mean, it's obviously not a huge deal in vintage as, you know, the hardcore vintage player probably forgot how the combat step even works. Legacy maybe it gets annoying? Seems too slow for Legacy.
