Ohhhhhhhh, right! Yeah, that's definitely Haruka from Little Busters. I watched the first season of the anime a couple months ago. She was good, but Rin and Komari are the best girls in the show.

Yep, the anime is based on an RPGMaker game that was officially released on Steam a year and a half ago, but is actually a few years older than that.

I'm so glad I decided to take the risk watching this show.

So it's not some dumb tryhard edgy show?

It's still fairly edgy (I mean, a dude wrapped in bandages and carrying a fucking scythe in his hands is somehow the less edgy half of the pair) but there's some lightheartedness mixed in. Plus, the story and intrigue behind what's going on in that crazy building and if/how they'll escape has me interested. Then there's the question of whether Zack would keep his promise to Rachel and kill her as she asked him to after they escape, or even if Rachel will go back on that and decide that she wants to live after all.

Keep in mind that it's incredibly rare for me to be interested in a horror or psychological thriller anime, so the very few times it does happen, it usually means the show has enough substance beyond those aspects to catch my attention and make it worth the risk.

Maplestory M is pretty fun, Fire Emblem Heroes is still good even though this Legendary banner annoyed me, Toji No Miko is fun and got a swimsuit banner today, and Girls' Frontline has been a blast. Overall, mobile game hell is still treating me well. Besides ANOTHER FUCKING LUCINA I don't really have anything to complain about.

Tbh, Cal and Pop are the only Xbox fans I've ever seen on this site that isn't triggered into manchild rage when someone mentions an anime game. I don't see it happening.

To be fair, I've been primarily a Nintendo fan for most of my life. I only jumped on Xbox because my brother bought a 360 to play Call of Duty with his friends, and that was what my family had besides Nintendo. If he had gone with PS3 instead back then, that's what side I would be on now when it comes to those two.

I have all three of them now anyways, so it's pointless for me to take part in any console war debates.

I'm really struggling thinking of who should rep Smile.

I'm pretty sure Smile's reps would be Miyuki/Emily and Nao/April, maybe Akane/Kelsey. For the series that get two reps, the main pink cure almost has to be one of them.

Most of the Precure series (beyond the original Futari Wa, which simply has Cure Black and Cure White) normally have pink, blue, and yellow cures, and any beyond that are either red, green, or purple. Smile is easily the most popular of any Precure series that features a green cure (Nao) but also one of the most popular to feature a red (Akane, but she has close competition from Towa in Go Princess and maybe Emiru in Hugtto) so I would guess they'd have a rep from Smile for one of those colors. I'd lean toward them using Nao over Akane. Maybe they might use both and forego Miyuki entirely, but considering how the pink cures are the stars of the show, that would be doubtful.

And come on, Xbox is really pushing Japanese Games nowadays. No reason it wouldn't be on Xbox as well.

Xbox One doesn't have the user base (yet) in Japan, and Precure doesn't have the popularity (yet) in the west, for that to be worth the trouble. PS4 is the anime game machine, and Switch is wildly popular in Japan for just about everything. I'd like it to be on XB1 too, but realistically speaking, it wouldn't be worth it for them to do that.

The Smile Cast is just too strong. None of them ever felt like an afterthought.

Through 21 episodes, I agree. Every single one of them has a strong presence, whether the episodes are based around them or the group as a whole. Smile's fight scenes may not be as good (so far) as either Heartcatch or Hugtto, but the cast is great all around, and the show is just a lot of fun to watch.

I was just thinking this the other day. It'd work really well methinks.

It would be great. Almost all of them have some sort of elemental/projectile attack, and some of them do fight with weapons instead of bare fists, so it's not like they'd have trouble making a cast of 20+ different girls unique. I've been imagining and hoping for a Precure beat-em-up game similar to DB Xenoverse for a while now.

Get the original Futari Wa Pretty Cure girls, Nagisa and Honoka, front and center on the cover. Bring in 2-3 reps from a few of the most popular series in the franchise (like Heartcatch, Smile, GoPri, Hugtto) and 1-2 reps from each of the others. Include a bunch of story missions from across the different series in the franchise, throw in online co-op and arena battle modes, release it on the PS4 and Switch... that game would sell millions in Japan and get a bunch of imports from the west too. I've only imported one single game in my entire life, but if this hypothetical Precure game actually existed, it would definitely become the second.

Unlike with Smile (so far, at least) and Heartcatch, it really does seem like one of the girls in Hugtto Precure is a total afterthought compared to the others. Hana's the star like all the pink cures are, Emiru and Lulu had an entire story arc about them, Homare has her "situation" with Harry, but Saaya? She can't even land the finishing blow on the monster in an episode centered around her. They probably don't even have stock footage made for her actually finishing off an enemy. At least she had one badass moment though...

The show as a whole is still fantastic. It's just a shame seeing one of the girls get much less of a spotlight than the others, especially one as cute and cool as Saaya.

On a side note, I still really, really want to see a full Precure video game made at some point. Either a 2D fighting game or a Warriors-style beat-em-up game.

Speaking of magical girl anime and English dubs, I finally got to hear my first taste of the English dub of Lyrical Nanoha.

*late season 1 spoilers in video below*



Cristina Vee sounds great as Nanoha. From the roles I know her as, I think it sounds most like the way she plays Compa in Hyperdimension Neptunia.

The no-name that I had never heard of that was voicing Fate did well too. Yuuno and Arf sounded decent, and I'll need to double-check if they changed the voices for Raising Heart and Bardiche (since they already spoke English in the original). As much as I adore Yukari Tamura's voice as Nanoha, the show itself is good enough that it'll be worth re-watching Nanoha and A's dubbed to see how it is. It's a shame that they stopped dubbing it there and didn't bother with StrikerS onward.

EDIT: Yeah, Raising Heart and Bardiche did get changed after all. Not a fan of the new Bardiche voice compared to the old one.

Should have been second, but the fact that Doki Doki was dubbed moved priority. Being dubbed was a huge bonus because I could multitask and not miss anything. With subs, I'll miss something so it needs my full attention. Which will probably really slow me down.

Glitter Force Doki Doki cleared. All in all good. Not on Smile's level, but still good. The main cast isn't as fun or entertaining as Smile's, but they did grow on me. The really strong point was the Antagonists. They were so much better than Smile's. Smile's antagonists were fun, but they never felt threatening. The villains in Doki Doki felt much more like threatening villains, like the kind of people that should be taken seriously. The overarching storyline was also better methinks. While Smile could get pretty dark when things got real, I think things got way more dark when things were going down in Doki Doki. I think the antagonists played a huge part of that.

So in short, Smile has much better main characters, while Doki Doki had much better antagonists. I overall liked and was much more entertained by Smile, but Doki Doki was still a fun ride.
