I was reading this blog post sort of thing earlier today about how to choose fitting free-use battle music for your rpgmaker games. like, what are the important things to focus on while looking because finding a song that fits everything you want is basically impossible. he divided battle themes into a few different categories, talked about each, had some examples... and I thought the examples lined up pretty well, but that might just be because I had read the category headers beforehand.

so if anyone has like 4-5 minutes to spare and listen to some jrpg battle bgm, I'm curious if you'd be able to match them up too:

When I was a kid, I loved both of them. Nowadays, I find myself growing a bit irritated with how Pokemon wants to seemingly resist improving for the better in their games. Like I no longer hold out any hope that the battle frontier will show up ever again. Meanwhile the Digimon games are at least trying, the srpg gameplay of survive is to me an effort to try out new waters.

But yes, please play a Digimon game. Myself, I liked Digimon World 3 and the card battle game that were on the PS1.

Unlike with Smile (so far, at least) and Heartcatch, it really does seem like one of the girls in Hugtto Precure is a total afterthought compared to the others. Hana's the star like all the pink cures are, Emiru and Lulu had an entire story arc about them, Homare has her "situation" with Harry, but Saaya? She can't even land the finishing blow on the monster in an episode centered around her. They probably don't even have stock footage made for her actually finishing off an enemy. At least she had one badass moment though...

The show as a whole is still fantastic. It's just a shame seeing one of the girls get much less of a spotlight than the others, especially one as cute and cool as Saaya.

On a side note, I still really, really want to see a full Precure video game made at some point. Either a 2D fighting game or a Warriors-style beat-em-up game.

So I just found out a song from a favorite band of mine, Survive Said the Prophet, is the opening song for an anime called Banana Fish. I need to watch the show now. I fucking love that band so much.

Through 21 episodes, I agree. Every single one of them has a strong presence, whether the episodes are based around them or the group as a whole. Smile's fight scenes may not be as good (so far) as either Heartcatch or Hugtto, but the cast is great all around, and the show is just a lot of fun to watch.

It would be great. Almost all of them have some sort of elemental/projectile attack, and some of them do fight with weapons instead of bare fists, so it's not like they'd have trouble making a cast of 20+ different girls unique. I've been imagining and hoping for a Precure beat-em-up game similar to DB Xenoverse for a while now.

Get the original Futari Wa Pretty Cure girls, Nagisa and Honoka, front and center on the cover. Bring in 2-3 reps from a few of the most popular series in the franchise (like Heartcatch, Smile, GoPri, Hugtto) and 1-2 reps from each of the others. Include a bunch of story missions from across the different series in the franchise, throw in online co-op and arena battle modes, release it on the PS4 and Switch... that game would sell millions in Japan and get a bunch of imports from the west too. I've only imported one single game in my entire life, but if this hypothetical Precure game actually existed, it would definitely become the second.

They all play off of each other fantastic, but they are all good enough to carry episodes by themselves.

I can talk more about my complaints about the fights once you've finished up.

But even so, as you said, it's fun. It was just an all around good time and I couldn't stop.

And come on, Xbox is really pushing Japanese Games nowadays. No reason it wouldn't be on Xbox as well. Then add some fire to Microsoft and Ninty's bromance by adding crossplay between Xbox and Switch versions. Hell yeah.

Xbox One doesn't have the user base (yet) in Japan, and Precure doesn't have the popularity (yet) in the west, for that to be worth the trouble. PS4 is the anime game machine, and Switch is wildly popular in Japan for just about everything. I'd like it to be on XB1 too, but realistically speaking, it wouldn't be worth it for them to do that.

To be fair, I've been primarily a Nintendo fan for most of my life. I only jumped on Xbox because my brother bought a 360 to play Call of Duty with his friends, and that was what my family had besides Nintendo. If he had gone with PS3 instead back then, that's what side I would be on now when it comes to those two.

I have all three of them now anyways, so it's pointless for me to take part in any console war debates.
