It's not a remake of R/B/Y, is it? It's just another game set in Kanto. If you're not playing as Red, it makes sense that Blue wouldn't be your rival.

Also, I believe it's been stated that all 151 1G Pokemon will be obtainable in LG (with trading, obviously), so there must be a way to get the Eeveelutions and Raichu. Maybe that means you can receive alread-evolved ones, or get another, non-partner Pikachu/Eevee and evolve that one.

Has an Ultimate/Plus/Definitive version of a game ever actually removed content from the original release?

MGS HD Collection removed the nightmare sequence from MGS3. It was originally a sort of promo for another game that ended up being cancelled, but I don't think its removal was forced by IP conflict, it's just that they didn't think it was necessary any more. Snake vs Monkey also went missing, but that was a fullblown crossover with an IP from another company (Sony's Ape Escape), so that's probably more justified.

Similarly, the Skateboarding minigame from MGS2S wasn't in the HD Collection, because it was based on Evolution Skateboarding which had long since flopped and been forgotten (and was another engine that would have to be ported). It was also absent from the Xbox and PC versions of Substance, since Evolution was a PS2 exclusive, so that might be part of the reason it wasn't revived for another multiformat release.

There's a theory (that I support, and indeed used to think was canon until I learned it had never been officialy confirmed) that playing as Knuckles is a 'sequel' to Sonic's game rather than an alternate continuity. As in, Sonic does his thing, blows up the Death Egg, saves Floating Island, then some of Robotnik's minions **** up the Emerald chamber all over again and Knuckles goes out to fix it.

There's a few things to support this (the Death Egg is missing from all the backgrounds it appeared in for Sonic when you visit them as Knuckles, the ghosts in Sandopolis Zone are there from the start because Sonic already released them, Sky Sanctuary is much smaller because a bunch of it collapsed when the Death Egg launched, etc), although there are other things that make less sense (Angel Island Zone is unburnt at first, Knuckles visits Flying Battery when it should have crashed (although there's also evidence that Knuckles was originally meant to skip that zone when 3&K was one game)).

Tapwave Zodiac

Basically a hybrid handheld games console and PalmOS PDA. Nearly bought one back in the day but settled on the non-gaming-centric Palm T|X instead. Kind of regret it now, the Zodiac was cool (and apparently would have played NetHack, which the T|X couldn't handle).

The problem I have with Xenoblade's combat is that the basic attacks are done automatically every so often. It just feels like I'm not really in control. If it was just on a short cooldown, but still waited for input before attacking, I'd like it a lot more.

Although you do gradually get stuff to activate manually, so maybe it's just that it would be too much to manage if you also had to time your main attacks?

Spec Ops is the one game that I think pulled that off well. Mainly for the reasons in that spoiler box- it doesn't so much say you're a bad person, as invite you to think about the actual consequences of the sort of things you might unthinkingly do in other FPSs that present them as unironically heroic. It's not killing fake people that makes you a bad person, it's thinking that doing it in CoD makes you a badass that makes you a bad person.

I'll be honest, I'm now struggling to remember any particularly bad examples, because it mostly crops up in indie games- the sort of thing where they think a game can't just be fun, it has to be 'deep'. Like Braid not just being a cool platform game with time puzzles, it's a metaphor for obsession, and to prove it they make 100%ing it ridiculously impractical. I can see the point they're going for, but they set the puzzle, and it bugs me that they're implying the player has something wrong with them if they want to complete something they bought.

HATE: Games that try to imply you, the player, are actually a bad person for scripted actions you have no choice over, particularly when they suggest that the 'correct' thing to do is to turn it off and stop playing. How about I save some money and don't start playing in the first place you pretentious hacks?

I'd have bought SO4 anyway, because I love Star Ocean (2 is the best, BTW), but Infinite Undiscovery would have remained infinitely undiscovered if Ms. Bailey had not provided voicework.

Although in recent years, my criteria has expanded to "How many Critical Role cast members are in this game". SO4 then gets extra credit for having the hero voiced by Matt Mercer.

Because half the fans were pissed off that it deviated from the Old EU, and the other half were devastated that it deviated from their fanfic that should OBVIOUSLY be canon and Disney are a bunch of creatively dead hacks who BETRAYED the fanbase by not having Luke and Kylo hook up and reveal that Rey was Yoda's daughter.

The film was fine, 'fandoms' are the worst.

Seriously. I need to play more Wario platformer games. I've only played Wario Land on the Virtual Boy and that's a good game. Not an amazing game, but definitely the best on the Virtual Boy.

I still can't believe that Nintendo didn't remake it in proper 3D on 3DS. I guess their desire to deny the VB ever existed outweighed the obvious market for making its best (only good?) game available.

As for Waluigi.. I'm thinking some sort of Tycoon/Strategy game. Keep Wario's theme of greed, but have Waluigi's money-making schemes be more long-term.

The textures are all pseudo-low-resolution, but it's supposed to look artistically blurry up close, not pixellated.

Are you sure you got a brand new console as a replacement? AFAIK, it's far more common for them to refurbish consoles sent for repair and then send them out again to replace the next broken one that comes in.

Let's say... thirty or so unique characters, all drawn from a single franchise, so you can have characters who wouldn't otherwise make it into a proper Smash Bros game. I haven't actually seen it yet, but I always thought it ended up being well respected, even if it had a rocky start. I hope so, as I've already got the Blu-Rays lined up for when I finish CW.

What I played of the demo didn't really let the mechanics shine, but the graphical style is amazing. As long as you like traditional JRPGs, the art alone makes Octopath worth a look.

Aside from being a reveal in one of the Humble Monthlies a while back, I'm pretty sure this is the cheapest Shadow Tactics has ever been, and it's supposed to be brilliant so the rest of the games are just a great bonus. For comparison, it's currently 17 in the GOG Summer Sale.

I just wish The Long Journey Home had a different title, because Ragnar Tornqvist wants to call the next (and final) game in the Longest Journey/Dreamfall series The Longest Journey Home.

What's Radical Dreams' relation to Chrono Trigger again? Either way Chrono Trigger gets knocked out due to Cross.

Chrono Cross was sort of a remake of Radical Dreamers, with a greatly expanded plot (and, you know, actual gameplay and graphics). So it's connected to CT the same way CC is, although apparently the connections are even less obvious in RD unless you read between the lines a bit more.

Heavy Rain and Beyond were remastered for PS4, and Fahrenheit was multiformat to start with, then got a PC rerelease with minor improvements (and censored content restored in the US version).

My answer- Tachyon: The Fringe. Space dogfighter with two faction storylines, awesomely abusable 'slide' mechanic, and main character voiced by Bruce Campbell.
