Board 8 > What kind of 'changes' do you expect from Pokemon on the Switch?

We've been waiting for a mainline Pokemon game on console for years, but what should additions should be made?

Cmon, gimme:

- Open World
- FFX style combat with turn queues based on speed.
- More than 4 moves per Pokemon
- Voice Acting

Though, not looking forward to to trading/battling likely requiring the Switch's paid online.

Make gym leaders and stuff more involved (B/W was pretty good about this)
Give us an actual good rival again. Its been way too long

Voice acting worked pretty well in Detective Pikachu i'll admit
But it was different, it was a story-driven game

Here..man I don't know. They are making those games more cutscenes-heavy and in fact I must say some of the SM/USUM cutscenes felt lacking because of no voice acting

Far more possible than "open world" but I still doubt it

They honestly can't do more than 4 moves....

4 move syndrome is the only thing keeping some Pokemon from being pretty much unbeatable.

Who says the moves have to work the same in a newly revamped battle system?

I'd like to see voice acting, but I assume Game Freak will cheap out by not adding in voice acting. Even though the game will probably cost $60 like games on the other 2 major consoles.

It's a Pokemon game so it will have minor changes at most

The only thing I really want is another actually culturally unique place to explore like what they did with Sun/Moon instead of "Kanto, Kanto with more water, Kanto with bigger cities, etc".

This would be under the assumption that Gamefreak is competent and would actually spend time improving their dirt-old gameplay instead of adding some dumb minigame you would only ever play twice or something.

Add new Pokemon, and be the start of Generation 8. Play in Kanto (Sevii Islands included), synced timeline with US/UM, with post-game Johto. Pokemon follow you again. That's about what I expect.

Now what I would want? That's a whole different subject.

It started gen 4.... it's been cancer since.

They should do a region based on somewhere theyve never done before like Africa or something. Im totally expecting Kanto trash even though they stuffed enough of that down our throats recently

At this point I'm pretty much expecting Kanto with Sun and Moon graphics/mechanics but on the Switch. I hate that my expectations are so low but Gamefreak for a few generations now has seemed like a bare-minimum type of developer so I'm not sure I trust them to make any dramatic improvements even for the series' big leap to consoles.

One part I'm not sure on, is if they'll continue going for a more traditional anime look, or if they'll bring back some of the chibi designs we originally had.

What do you mean?

The playable characters have much more human proportions now, they got normal legs and even knees! They basically look like w/e anime counterpart they have, but the playable characters in the older gens, we had the portrait, but when you play, it's as a chibi style version of that character portrait.

What do I expect?

- Kanto Kanto Kanto. Did we mentioned Kanto? We're in Kanto, you don't get many non-Kanto Pokemon, we're going to reference old Kanto stuff even though we're already in Kanto. Did I mention Kanto? We hate everything we've released since then.

- Depressingly minimal changes to the map layout because it wouldn't be nostalgic enough if we actually made it a new game.

What do I want and/or hope for? Definitely not what I expect.

I'm not really interested in another Red/Blue remake/reimagining, will definitely be skipping that one.

Game Freak has never made dramatic leaps in graphics from one game to the next. It's all been baby steps when it comes to improving the graphics of every game after the original Red/Blue/Yellow. The graphics in Sun/Moon showed that they could have made a dramatic leap from Black/White graphics up to Sun/Moon graphics, but we ended up X/Y whose graphics were around midway between both games.

Unskippable cutscenes were such a common complaint about Sun and Moon, I fully expected them to change it for USUM

But nope they were too lazy to do that
I don't get my hopes up for that
