The few cases where it's been implemented have shown some amazingly positive results. It would appear that most paedophiles (who get caught at any rate) don't actually want to hurt children but know that they are in fact hurting children and simply cannot control themselves and there's a tremendous pressure and guilt that they live with.

my view is skewed on this, having worked alongside LEOs in public protection. predators will to great lengths to gain access to their targets, it would suprise/scare most lay people to know how tenacious and clever some pedophiles are.

i'll throw in something about OCD here, particularly w/re to intrusive thoughts; some OCD sufferers get severe thoughts/images about harm to others - stabbing, strangling, shooting, sexual assault and CSA. they find these thoughts abhorrent and distressing, and when they present to services are often overly risk-assessed and sometimes stigmatised.

in psychiatric jargon these thoughts are called egodystonic, the person experiencing them is appalled. contrast that with pedophilia, where the thoughts and fantasies are actively welcomed.

so i am conflicted about the existence of 'virtuous pedophiles' and can't help wondering about the crossover with OCD, as well as historical attempts by predators over the last 50 years to change the label attached to them.

Pedophiles are pedophiles. I believe pedophilia is a mental condition created through abuse.

Child molestation is a by-product and a criminal act, and its obviously extremely complicated. We certainly dont want to have a but it happened to me too defense so theres no penalty for destroying a young life.

My only real point and the reason for my post is that this blind hatred for all is too unreasonable.

there is no current evidence-base for the treatment of pedophiles; just as there isn't for pyschopathy.

i'll leave that there as i flamed for expressing/reporting this in another thread.

Got modded a few years ago when I pointed out that the next frontier for this group was MAP(minor attracted persons) and normmalizing being attracted to children? Next the "stigma" will be fought against and their right to work in elementary schools will be the hot issue, their right to work at day cares and live by playgrounds, etc.

And I'm sure that CE's resident group of MAP's and MAP sympathizers will now mark this post. Come one, move those goal posts. Define pedophile, try and justify it not being that bad because thechnically it doesn't apply to infants.

depression does that to you, constant self-blame and regret; sometimes it's called 'generalised memory' afaik, depressed ppl recall negative memories at a higher and more intense rate than non-depressed ppl.

also, a tidbit: there is some evidence that mild to moderately depressed ppl are better at predicting events than non-depressed; if you are happy, there is a chance it's partly because you see the world through rose-tinted glasses.
