Even if you just say tc is right and go with it for arguments sake he's still wrong given how important a part image is in music and how nirvana was like "apathy as a style" and made it work hard. Nirvana was totally different and refreshing relative to the musical climate prior to them blowing up grunge.

I don't think anyone worthwhile thought that. They were famous, and that's basically it.
The music is simplistic, the lyrics are laughable; it's basically music for angst-filled teenagers. I can't see anyone over the age of 18 listening to Nirvana.
