It primarily matters for performance. And performance matters for body composition. If I increase my lifts while losing weight I'm going to look better than losing strength and fat.

Yeah, that makes sense, thanks. I never lift on an empty stomach, don't care as much for cardio though

Losing and gaining weight, imo, each have their ups and downs.

I have so little muscle mass though... Maybe once I tack on enough solid bulk muscle I'll just want to maintain

I use PB2 in my version to save 280 calories and a boatload of fat, a little more expensive but I'm still eating in deficit so it's worth it. Since I added the shake my life has been so much easier, easier to count calories and macros and I'm getting more carbs so the energy level has been stable throughout the week.

Have you thought about adding a casein drink right before bed? That was one thing my friend did when he had gotten up to 175. He started at like 118 too. He's at 162 now, cuz he has two kids so he can't really work out as often or eat like he used to.

Honestly, pretty glad I'm coming from the other direction, even tho I have to worry about shit like my nipples ending up in the right spot lol

I'm planning on getting some next paycheck tbh

Right now I eat Greek yogurt but the extra protein would be good

I took progress pics today and I don't look any different than before I started bulking which tbf it's only been about month.

Weight loss was noticeable after this long, but it makes sense that tacking on mass would take longer

I agree with the above unless I'm cutting weight. I eat a lot peri-workout even when I'm cutting so I'm not doing that without a training stimulus if weight loss is my aim. Otherwise yeah, keep the calories coming.

How much does peri-workout nutrition matter for body composition? I see mixed responses and don't have any way to discern what true and false

@DespondentDeity yeah I pushed myself too much in a way, too. I normally deload every 6 weeks but I pushed another cycle this time because I was feeling pretty good. So that's 9 weeks. I don't feel as bad considering that. Idk though. I'm satisfied with my progress visually but I feel like I should be getting stronger faster. I know it doesn't really help to compare but it seems like most people put up bigger numbers than I do at this point. And don't need to deload as often

Yeah, I've lost 30 lbs January through June this year and never stopped drinking; I probably drank more days than I didn't. Some weeks I'll drink every night, though not to excess every night

It's honestly a more noticeable problem now that I'm trying to bulk. When I was cutting it was harder to separate the alcohol from the calorie restriction when I had a bad day.

Just my experience though obviously I haven't been dedicated to this like you have

DespondentDeity posted...
I think quitting alcohol was fundamental to my weight loss, I've had a total of maybe 10 drinks since December, mostly on dates, never at home, never alone.

You can do it, I think 60 pounds by January is totally achievable. Be careful of that knee tho man, I'd hate to see you out for any longer.

Yeah, alcohol consumption is definitely my biggest struggle. It's not super hard to fit in calorie-wise, but there's an inevitable impact on performance too

Trying not to think too far ahead, but I only have 265 pounds of weight. At my current rate of progress I'll get to that in November on my deadlift. And on my squat not too long after.

Still plenty of room to grow my bench and OHP (I will almost certainly never bench 265) but with the prices on workout equipment being what they are, not sure what I'm going to do exactly when that time comes.

Started with with a toasted PB sandwich and 2 scoops of whey and a cup of Greek yogurt. Then had 3 eggs. About 950 cals, still not a ton but an improvement considering I'm about to eat lunch.

Think I need to keep an actual food log along side my other trackers
