Comparing it to a better game isn't really fair though. And tc, as a first time attempt at a mario rpg it was bound to have some kinks, it's got its fair share of problems.

But as a template for the paper mario games, not to mention the mario and luigi games, I appreciate super mario rpg for what it is. Without it, we might never have gotten the amazing paper mario or the fantastic superstar saga.

I don't give a shit about ideology, I just think it's incredible that we accurately said that averagejoel denies the holodomor genocide and blames things like the weather and the farmers instead, and we were told that wasn't true...

and it was all true, but somehow because Joel told scar that it was bad even though it was not a genocide and also Churchill is bad too there's ambiguity over all those posts denying Stalin did anything or that the holodomor had anything to do with policy

Like wtf? When have I ever defended Churchill? Most of what I know about him doesn't make him seem worth defending.

A personal reflection is that it's a very similar situation to the Bengal famine of '43 and yet people are not so happy to condemn Churchill. I'm less interested in whether they're classified as genocides and more interested in consistency.

Do you think average Joel would defend Churchill the way he defended Stalin?

The most Ive seen Joel say about the Holodomor is that it was more complicated than Stalin the evil man killed everybody.

Like I said, the first time I saw him deny it it was a straight up denial, "I didn't know they could control the weather"

Maybe in his mind he was making a nuanced point but that's not what it looked like to me. I don't think you can blame the holodomor on poor weather at all, but even if you do it's certainly not supposed to be a way to obfuscate what else happened...
