| Arti 12/09/20 9:42:08 AM #340 | Sakura Wars (PS4) I wasn't entirely sure I would like the reboot due to the strategy RPG battles being replaced with action-based musou combat, but it ended up not really being a big deal - though the combat was pretty much fully developed at the very beginning and by the end the battle system had already bored me. The character development and interaction is what the series is known for, and that definitely shines here. Plot is pretty much a basic shonen anime, and it isn't trying to hide it at all. Overall, I think it's a solid title, but there are better ones out there. Instead I played this because of its similarity to Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, my favorite 3DS game. It certainly did not disappoint on that front, and I enjoyed going through the entirety of the storyline. However, the game could benefit from a good more puzzles, with only 120 total and many take less than two minutes to finish. The difficulty is also over the place; several of the Hard puzzles are much easier than a good number of the Medium puzzles, which makes little sense. | Arti 10/28/20 7:35:29 AM #251 | WILL: A Wonderful World (PS4) An interesting visual novel where you play as a god that can change the storylines of humans and fix the mistakes they make to lead them towards a better ending. While I found the overarching plot to be somewhat lackluster with an ending I didn't really like, all of the individual storylines in the game were extremely interesting - and watching them continually fail by making dumb mistakes was pretty funny as well. I think this visual novel is worth reading because of the individual storylines and not the overarching plot. Also, while you might need a guide to finish the trophy list, it isn't required to get any of the endings - the entire game is basically trial and error and you'll find your way towards the end by just rearranging the stories until it works. There's also some nice extra modes after you complete the storyline. | Arti 08/26/20 4:10:25 AM #143 | Chaos;Child (Vita) I really did like the latter 25% of the main route, but so much of the game is padding and it's even worse than Steins;Gate when it comes to pacing issues. Characters tend to ramble on and repeat the same basic facts over and over again, plus the game basically quizzes you on stuff that should be easily apparent if you're reading carefully (and if you aren't reading, then why are you playing this?) The last 25% is extremely good though, but I'm also not a fan of the ending either. Hopefully the other routes elaborate a bit more on what happened here, and I might have a different opinion afterwards. Glad I waited to start here with the series, and if the sequels are of the same quality I feel that I will have a great time with this series. The game's strategy RPG portion, however, is very bare-bones and lacks any challenge even on Hard difficulty, which is quite a letdown considering the other game I played from this Aquaplus + Sting collaboration (Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord) was actually challenging on that front and had a much more in-depth strategy RPG portion attached to the visual novel. Of course it's one of the easiest games to complete in the series but who cares. I ranked this at 4th in my top games of 2018 topic, not having done most of the minigames included in this one and mainly touching on the great story it had. However, many of them were removed in this similar to how I commented on them being removed in Judgment, so it was nice not having to worry about bowling, baccarat, cee-lo, cho-han, billiards, and roulette among others. Plus, this has the karaoke missing from Judgment, and the hostess club, so it's perfect from a mini-game perspective. I'm not too impressed with clan creator but it's not bad, guess I'll be looking more into it down the road in 6. There's not much extra to do with the completion list in this game, the biggest tasks aside from the minigames are to beat fifteen groups of each random enemy spawn in both cities to unlock all the street bosses, and then clear twenty-six bouncer missions on three difficulty modes. The latter being the more difficult portion as the Amons decide to show up in the last three missions, but only the one where all three showed up was any problem and required a Sacrifice Stone on the harder difficulties. The Legend mode playthrough was a non-issue and all I did was swing around my unlimited durability lightsaber for a few hours. Fun stuff.
