Since all the characters are supposed to be in France during this storyline, having them all speaking in Japanese is odd to me. I don't really know why, because I'm fine with English dubs taking place in a clearly Japanese setting. I still enjoyed the storyline though, it was a nice wrap-up conclusion to the main game's story.

I had a similar feeling about the Japanese voices with London Detective Mysteria which I am playing through now and in the end with that I just muted all the voice acting.

Clearly the writers were setting up for another title instead of concluding everything in here (and thankfully, we also have that title here as well). The game itself, however, is pretty weak - the second 'case' isn't really much of a case at all, and you don't even do a proper investigation and trial until the fourth case. It's at least better than Investigations and Apollo Justice, but that's an easy bar to clear.

The House in Fata Morgana (Vita)

It is one of the best stories I've seen in a visual novel, and definitely recommended to play through all the way to the end. This version has a large amount of extra content in addition to the main story that I still have to go through, so I'll hold off on giving it a final rating until I've gone through all of that. Regardless, I am very impressed with the game and it definitely lives up to the hype I've seen for it.

A stealth game with an office setting, it tasks you with sneaking all the way up to your office without being spotted, using items such as donuts, cardboard boxes, coffee, and others to sneak past the workers on each floor. Got it on PS+ a while back, used a few of its trophies for a TrueTrophies challenge, and finished it up today. It works for what it is.

Definitely enjoyed the story all the way throughout, puts a little too much into its checklist hunt as many open world games do. It ran pretty well on the PS4 than most recent AAA games (still has the PS4 sound like a jet engine though). I'll definitely get the platinum, and probably do the DLC at a later date.

Firewatch (PS4)

An overall decent walking simulator as you play as the main character Henry, who after some depressing events in his life, takes a job to take the controls of a watchtower in the middle of nowhere to get away from it all. His only companion is a radio, where his superior Delilah gives him orders or just converses with him on occasion. The dialogue between the two is the main highlight as the conversations can get really interesting, and it isn't the story because while it builds up well it eventually falls flat on its face and made me hate the overall storyline. Still glad I played it for all the dialogue, and I do wonder how long it took to record all the alternate voice lines between the two characters - all dialogue is voiced, and even though the game is only four hours at most there's still a lot!

The Midnight Sanctuary (PS4)

Now this is a weird one - it's a visual novel set in a secluded Christian village in Japan, the game stars Hamomoru Tachibana, a guest tasked with trying to modernize the village and integrate it with the rest of the world, as Christians in Japan shortly before the time period the game takes place in, were persecuted due to the influence of the Tokugawa shogunate. However, the appearance of another guest dubbed the Saint has changed the faith of the people in the village, and soon Hamomoru learns the real truth of the village. It definitely has a good hook and going any further would spoil a lot - though I was disappointed overall with the game itself - never really got invested in any of the characters and the game ended abruptly due to its short length.

In short, I wouldn't recommend playing either of these games. Hopefully the next game I play will be more enjoyable!

Slowly making my way through my Vita backlog.

London Detective Mysteria (Vita)

A rare visual novel and otome game localized by XSEED rather than Aksys who you would expect it from. This one, as you can tell from the title, takes place in London, around the end of the 19th century and stars many characters who are references to famous literary detectives or others from around that time period. The main character, Emily Whiteley, is also a detective and attends a detective academy with the other characters in the story.

The game is a straight visual novel, but does make it interesting as the characters solve various mysteries, however none of the mysteries are anything surprising and will be easy to figure out for anyone who has played a similar game like this. So far I've only gotten one of the destined endings but I'll be going back and getting the rest at a later date.

Samurai Warriors: Chronicles 3 (Vita)

Dropped this back in 2016 for no real reason and picked it up again this year after downloading the free DLC packs in the store, which made a few trophies easier to unlock. Unlike the main Samurai Warriors games, that focus more on the historical retelling of the Sengoku period in Japan, this has a created character go through the Sengoku period instead, and tells not only the true history but also a number of hypothetical paths that might have happened if certain events were changed. Having played through the Legend of a Land United in Samurai Warriors 4 earlier this year I'm most interested in how the hypothetical paths branch off, and I've already gotten myself to two of the many endings the game has. I'll be continuing to play this until I've gotten them all, and I'll see where I'm at after all that if I want to try and get the platinum here.

I thought I had posted a platinum topic (#207) but apparently I did not, and it's now two days later so I'm not going to bother.

Anyway, this game has a ridiculous amount of content for a picross game, clocking in at 480 color puzzles (making up 20 images - 24 puzzles per image). Got it in a sale for $4, so it was less than a cent per puzzle. It is still color picross so it is much easier to finish all the puzzles, but still a great value overall. Vita version has some bugs in the game as it wasn't optimized for the system, as a few puzzles have the final row at the bottom either partially on the screen or not on the screen at all, which happens when the top numbers are too long. Also, if the puzzle has six colors the sixth color freezes the selector and to change colors on the puzzle after selecting the sixth color, it requires you to quit and head back in to the puzzle. Just a bunch of annoyances, but it's probably best to play it on PS4/5 or the Switch when it eventually releases there, as those systems will probably not have these bugs.

Figured I should get a move on this one since the DLC just recently came out so I went through the entire story mode, took about two hours to do it. Wasn't expecting much of a storyline given the series, but it was interesting enough and the combat is good. I only went through with Axel so far. At least for now I think I will be buying the DLC at some point, hopefully in a sale sometime down the road.

I kind of want to amend my top 100 list that I recently posted here, this is easily a top 10 game, maybe even top 5. Amazing story that wraps up the hanging plot threads from both of the other two games, and actually difficult strategy RPG battles (on Hard mode, which is what I've used through the entire series play through) that make the most use of the game's unique mechanics.

I'm still going to go through the Dream Arena at some point later but I really enjoyed my time in this series.

Dragon Sinker (Vita)

One of the many jRPG titles from Exe-Create and Kemco that are on pretty much every platform these days. This game however has a very in-depth job system that makes the game a lot of fun to experiment with different combinations throughout the entire game. I played the entire game on the hardest difficulty and like you would expect, the first few bosses are pretty tough and then it gets easier as you unlock more skills from the different jobs. It definitely tries to emulate the feel of a NES RPG too much at times - even down to the graphics and music. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the other title I played from this group (Antiquia Lost) and might try a few more in the future. Perfect 20 hour RPG for the Vita and there's more content after beating the game that I will try out at a later date.

Make no mistake that unlike Prelude to the Fallen, this game starts off extremely slow with little to no plot development. Plus a lot of the game is merely setup for the sequel and not really setting itself apart. However, it's quite the ride to get there, so I'm glad I played and beat it.

Just need to get the platinum before I start Mask of Truth...

I first heard this while going through NFUNs topic. Is this not video game music then? IIRC there is weird eligibility with Love Live songs that Im not privy to. Anyway, this is another idol pop song. The positives I said about the prior songs apply: the big selling point for me is honestly the vocal layering, which might be a strange thing to gravitate toward, but it feels like settling in with a nice warm blanket. Love Live gets a lot of crap from folks (maybe its just a few very vocal folks) but I enjoy this song!

Due to NFUN's weird rules for his topic I was able to shove a large amount of vocaloid and Love Live tracks in, all of which would not be eligible under the past VGMC rules as none have originated in a video game. This one in particular debuted in the anime series.

Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythmic Adventure 1 (Switch)

The first half of the Rhythmic Adventure Pack, this has the two drums traveling through different time periods to collect the pieces of a clock that is able to change the past and future. This isn't actually the first Taiko RPG I've played - the Vita version also had one, though it wasn't as expansive at this one - the Vita version was just menus and had reused art from Tales games for equipment. This game has its own unique equipment for Don-chan and exploration through the different time periods. It's weird only playing a part of many songs since the battles will almost never last the full length of a song, but you get used to it after a while. I'll be trying to get more of the stamps in the regular Taiko mode before moving on to Rhythmic Adventure 2.
