Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders from Planet Space (Vita)

Been playing this on and off for a few years now, and finally cleared the last mission today. There's not that much to the game besides shooting through hordes of giant insects and alien aircraft, but it's fun regardless.

The Solitaire Conspiracy (PS5)

The Solitaire Conspiracy is a different take on a game of solitaire, where each suit represents a different spy group. Each suit's face cards has a separate 'power' when placed on a column - one group sorts the column in numerical order, while another group randomizes the cards in the column. The campaign itself takes about two to three hours at most, while you have some FMV cutscenes of Greg Miller talking to you through most of them. It's a pretty barebones story that's also pretty predictable, but it works for the game's length. The platinum trophy requires only completing the campaign, doing a few skirmishes, and then reaching wave 15 in a survival mode where you are timed on your progress... which I managed to do on my first try and was no challenge at all. I liked the game enough to continue playing a bit more after the platinum to unlock the last two spy groups, which you can only do after completing the campaign for whatever reason. It's a bit weird though how this game is PS5-only when it was ported to PSN (not the case on Xbox).

Defense Grid 2 (PS4)

Bought for some dumb TrueTrophies challenge where I needed trophies in strategy games, this is a tower defense game where you protect a base from aliens trying to capture the energy cores from the base. There is also a story between the AIs that you meet throughout the levels. The campaign itself is only 20 levels, so it doesn't overstay its welcome and it's somewhat fun to make these elaborate mazes out of the levels they give you. I will probably try for the platinum at a later date.

Ord. (PS4)

Ord. is a very simple game told in three word passages; the game chooses the first word, you choose between two words for the second, and the game replies with another word. No graphics otherwise, and limited sound effects. There are five stories included in Ord., each with a number of endings and trophies to collect from each. The format leads to some pretty funny reactions and also some bizarre ones like the main character testing a guillotine by cutting off their head. While most of the game's endings are pretty simple to get via trial and error, a guide is probably needed to get some of the trophies in the game, plus hoping the RNG gives you some of the events needed to unlock all the trophies.

Friday the 13th: Killer Puzzle (PS4)

A spinoff of the good puzzle title Slayaway Camp, this one has you sliding Jason Voorhees through a number of puzzles where his goal is to kill everyone in each puzzle. There's a total of 13 chapters and a daily puzzle section, so it's a good amount of content. Sadly the developers couldn't renew the license to the game, so it's delisted everywhere - which is unfortunate, as some of the puzzles are very well constructed.

A.W. : Phoenix Festa (Vita)

This Vita game was available on the English PSN for a very brief time before being delisted, though physical Asian copies also have the English translation on them. I am told that the game covers the events of the series' first two seasons, but ends before it reveals anything - so it's mainly an advertisement for the anime/light novel series, as the game itself isn't much. Basically you spend a number of weeks in a simulation game to train in stats, learn skills, and do jobs for money with various battles taking place throughout the months the game goes through. The battle system in-game is a very simple action RPG, you have your character (and a partner sometimes) battle another two characters. You basically have two attacks and two special attacks, plus a partner special if you have both characters at certain points. None of the story battles were very challenging though, and I eliminated the need for the ranking early on as the #1 character challenged me within the first week of my playthrough and I won easily.

The platinum takes ten separate playthroughs and a lot of skill farming so I'm not sure I will even bother. You do keep skills between playthroughs once you unlock them, so subsequent playthroughs are easier, but I don't think it's really that big of a difference.

MIND0 (Vita)

One of the very now rare Vita exclusive games, this dungeon crawler has a story that sounds like it was ripped out of someone's Persona fanfiction, and the dub matched it by bringing in some of the dub VAs from that game as well. The game play though is pretty good - but only on expert difficulty where it makes a lot of the battles throughout the game - all of them, even random ones - a lot more interesting as you go through the game. I still have the 50 floor bonus dungeon to go through but I should have fun with that one as well.

Shady Part of Me (PS4)

In this indie puzzle platformer, you control two girls - one a shadow, that runs in the background, and another normal, who cannot be exposed to light. The puzzles revolve around these two concepts, and there are collectibles in the form of origami cranes scattered throughout the levels. The story is simple, but well thought out and the voice acting does a good job of supporting the game. Took me four hours to play through all four acts.

Gal*Gun 2 (PS4)

Wanted to get through this one before starting up Gal Guardians but I don't think it was worth it. The previous game in the series, Gal*Gun: Double Peace, is better than 2 in every way basically. Game is still the same on-rails shooter as the other games, but this one adds item searching and defense missions, neither of which add much to the experience. Still, it seems like a very easy platinum so I'll just finish it off later this week.

Our World is Ended (PS4)

Quite possibly the worst visual novel I have ever read, and I am honestly not sure how they got such a great Japanese VA cast for this garbage. Every character is a walking anime trope that you have seen in many Japanese games, and I hated pretty much the entire main cast. There's supposedly a serious story going on throughout the game, but the game always loses focus to make another joke about boobs instead.

It has a 59 on Metacritic and 48 on Opencritic. I honestly think both of those scores are giving it too much credit. The developer (RED Entertainment) has not made any games since this one, and honestly, I do not think I would buy another game from them. Their 'character' in the Neptunia series is also extremely annoying so it fits pretty well.
