https://www.wired.com/story/feds-halt-national-electric-vehicle-charging-program/

The US government has ordered states to retract their plans to build hundreds of federally funded EV charging stations, according to a memo obtained by WIRED.

Which, predictably is not legal:

The order may be illegal. It could fly in face of court orders demanding the Trump administration unfreeze a funding pause that prevents federal money from flowing to state agencies. It may also violate the Administrative Procedures Act, which requires agencies to follow legal procedures before taking action.

There is no legal basis for funds that have been apportioned to states to build projects being decertified based on policy, says Andrew Rogers, a former deputy administrator and chief counsel of the Federal Highway Administration.

lol, until I'm told by management that the telework agreement is changed my 30 day clock hasn't even started yet. (edit: though I suppose they could tell me feb 15th and that date could be real?)

And we got an e-mail today stating the resignation deadline (which was supposed to be 11:59 PM EST tonight) is now pushed until monday.

It's pretty clear they have no idea what they are doing.

Interesting. Bit disappointed they didn't wait until April 1st to announce the re-launch (in keeping with tradition), but maybe they'll still use that date as an important milestone.

I've really only kept up with 100% Eat (formerly Face Jam) and Regulation Podcast (formerly F**k Face), but I guess I'll listen the the podcast episode Burnie mentioned and see how it sounds:

Toward the end of his announcement, Burnie encouraged fans to listen to the February 5th episode of the Morning Somewhere podcast to learn more about the companys re-launch.

Eh. I have some incredibly apathetic relatives and acquaintances who don't have the time or inclination to be bothered staying up to date on current events, and they know the kind of ideas that Trump represents.

You don't have to be actively searching for the information to find out what kind of person he is.

And I won't judge those people for that if it's legitimately 100% where their heart was. It sucks but we live in a time that sucks.

A bleeding heart over human rights, if said rights don't directly affect you or those close to you, is a luxury to those who are relatively better off. People are suffering out there. They don't deserve to be treated as the enemy by default because the price of eggs affects them with their meager paycheck to paycheck at best living an incredible amount more compared to how much it inconveniences you.

Like people are literally starving and going homeless out there. It isn't as cut and dry as a lot of privileged Internet outrage mongers try to paint it as.

Right, the only defense to actual racism is a ridiculous level of ignorance.

But even then it's on a sliding scale. I'm sure many people voted in ignorance, but many were probably only lightly or moderately ignorant to the point that they still had to do some minor mental gymnastics to not reconcile the utterly abhorrent aspects of Trump and his campaign promises.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/03/climate/trump-california-water-dams-reservoirs/index.html

The US Army Corps of Engineers opened two dams on Friday in Central California and let roughly 2.2 billion gallons of water flow out of reservoirs, after President Donald Trump ordered the release with the misguided intent to send water to fire-ravaged Southern California.

Trump celebrated the move in posts to Truth Social post on Friday and Sunday, declaring, the water is flowing in California, and adding the water was heading to farmers throughout the State, and to Los Angeles.

There are two major problems, water experts said: The newly released water will not flow to Los Angeles, and it is being wasted by being released during the wet winter season.

In case there was ever any doubt.

On Feb 7th, they're gonna Schedule F all non-bargaining unit positions and then tell agencies to fire 25-50% of people. You wait, it's coming.

My worry for taking the deferred resignation is all the reasons they could choose to screw us and not pay the entire 8 months. Also the fact that I was counting on working overtime as tax season picks up to help jump start paying for a house (closing February 7th, a day after the offer expires)

My worry for NOT taking the deferred resignation is I could just be fired at any time anyways as a result of schedule F. The NTEU should offer fairly robust protections, but that doesn't seem to be slowing down too much of the other junk this administration is trying to ram forward.

It's an "FAQ" on the elective resignation process. It showcases 4 of the most "frequently asked questions" that are all posed and answered in a way to make resigning seem desirable. Not going to post them all but this one was particularly gag inducing.

Q: Am I allowed to get a second job during the deferred resignation period?

A: Absolutely! We encourage you to find a job in the private sector as soon as you would like to do so. The way to greater American prosperity is encouraging people to move from lower productivity jobs in the public sector to higher productivity jobs in the private sector.

Gotta side with foolmo on this one. You seem to believe the exact words we should be using to describe the behavior of trump and his allies have "lost all meaning".

That is exactly what they want people to believe so they can continue to pretend like they are being unfairly maligned when they are being called out for exactly what they are.

You can call a spade a spade and you shouldn't afraid to do so just because one of their many grifts is to convince people that the word 'spade' has 'lost all meaning'.

That was my understanding as well. Perhaps the ATC should have *not* granted visual sep the second time it was requested and instead provided a new heading, but the fact that the ATC radio'd back the second time should have been a clue to the pilot that they probably weren't being warned about a much further away plane.

These are only very preliminary understandings though. NTSB investigations can be very thorough and take ages so we probably won't get a final answer until long after this incident has moved on from most people's perception.

Are you in a bargaining unit?

Yes, covered by NTEU which requires a 30 day notice.

At this point I'm not even sure the 30 days has started.

On the 24th we received an e-mail stating:

The OPM guidance specifies that by 5 pm on January 24, agencies should revise their telework policy to state that eligible employees must work full-time at their respective duty stations, subject to certain exceptions. The guidance recommends that agencies set a target date of approximately 30 days for full compliance with the Presidential Memorandum, subject to any exclusions granted by the agency and any collective bargaining obligations.

Treasury intends to fully comply with the Presidential Memorandum, and we are currently evaluating how it will apply to Treasury employees. We will provide additional information as soon as possible. Employees will receive notice before any changes in their telework or remote work status are implemented.

Then we got the "fork" email on January 28th

And then a couple emails clarifying details about the fork email. But nothing else about return to work and certainly no actual deadline has been communicated for the return to office.

Although I do still have some amortized solar panel credit that I need to cash in.

yeah, I'm in the process of buying a house and part of my loan is going to include the cost of a new roof (which is required because the current roof is garbage) and a solar/battery system (because I'd like to start saving money on crazy electricity prices).

The Residential Clean Energy Credit is supposed to be available until 2032 as set by the Inflation Reduction Act so I can claim 30% of the costs of the solar system as a credit against my tax obligation. It would likely take 3~ years of rolling it over to use the whole credit, but now I don't even have full confidence that this time next year that credit will even still exist on my 2025 taxes.

It would take a significant revision from congress, but Trump has already indicated he is against anything that supports renewable energy so I might just be out 15-16k over the next couple years if that is a change that his administration makes.
