I don't even know what to make of it. Luka has been having a bit of a down year but I mean, 6 months ago everyone was saying he's basically the best player in the league etc. He just led his team to the finals.

AD did everything to get to LA and now he's gotta play in Dallas (which isn't that bad but it's not LA, and again he did everything to get to LA). So every fan with a Doncic jersey is told to fuck off and he's the back end of AD's career in a city he doesn't want to be in with a max contract etc?

That said, AD is a top 10 player and he will help out the Mavs.

Having slept on it, I've decided that after everything AD did to force a move to the Lakers, for them to just dump him to set up the post-LeBron era is really funny.

For me its extra funny because they talked so much shit about Boston not being loyal.

It makes absolutely no sense that the Mavs didn't let any know outside of the Lakers and Jazz that Luka was available.

i am almost hoping there is some shady shit going on behind the scenes because the idea that there are people who are getting paid to make these kinds of decisions is extremely disconcerting

I'm not an NBA guy but if I was, I can confidently say where I'd be with this trade is "I'm out until at least the end of the season, and the literal only thing that could possibly bring me back would be a championship this year, and even that might not"

Honestly the wolves were close to being vindicated on that before they, like the mavs have here, decided staying under the lux was more important than winning a title

its still not in full effect yet which is the crazy part (and it may not even be a big L for the Clippers because one of the seasons is still their best franchise finish)

i saw this elsewhere but this is really like one of those trades that delusional Lakers fans bring up because they're convinced they can fleece the rest of the league because they're the Lakers but it's actually real. maybe even worse.

SGA was a prospect at thet ime, no one knew he would be what he is. This is for luka in his prime

Fun fact about the Suns outside of missing out on Luka. Sarver also turned down a trade for SGA that draft night.

Yes.

People clown on Ishbia for the Beal trade and a lower extent the KD trade, but at least the guy isnt afraid of spending money on players and investing into the franchise.

Suns fans spent years under penny pinching Sarver and they let a ton of players leave solely because he didnt want to pay them.

New Mavs owners seem to be under the Sarver umbrella of owners unfortunately and are only in it to make more money.

I love (hate) how the more you think about it the worse it is.

Mavs culture is literally built on maybe the most loyal superstar in NBA history, a guy who played a couple extra seasons more than he probably should have (his words) but because of that played a season with Luka. Luka was able to see how much that city loved Dirk, and the Mavs lucked into the easiest torch passing that weve seen in a long time.

If Luka doesnt resign, the fans could have at least said we tried and still support the team (and hate Luka). Now every fan has no reason to hate Luka, every reason to hate management, and AD is going to be a magnet of hate for the fans (that still care) every time they lose a game.

If I was a Mavs fan I would legitimately stop following the team and probably Basketball in general. I can only imagine how pissed their fans must be given how passively pissed I am about this trade

I like how I havent' heard a peep about whether luka *actually* expressed any sort of hesitancy in signing a supermax. Literally no one has turned one down before.
