Speaking of, how is the newest one?
I only saw like 20 minutes of the new one with Tom Cruise when I caught it on live TV. Admittedly, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. It had more humor than I was expecting from a Tom Cruise movie. Don't know how good or bad it is as a whole, though.

I was on a Brendan Fraser kick so I watched it for the first time last night. I knew it reviewed poorly but actually knew very little about the movie. Didn't even know that Evelyn was recast prior to watching it (unfortunate imo, loved Rachel).

The movie felt so mechanical, like we went from scene to scene just because we were supposed to; it didn't happen organically and there was no real world-building. As a result, the movie felt mostly lifeless, leaving me caring very little what happened to the cast.

It's unfortunate, too, because I felt that the subplot with Richard and his grown son had promise, and could have worked so much better if put into a better movie. But the whole mummy plotline was a drag, which sucked because that was supposed to be the main draw (seriously, yetis?).

Any background people know about regarding this movie that resulted in the mess we ended up with? Admittedly I never followed this series past the second movie.

Two of these aren't public policies, and two of them aren't an individual benefit, but social welfare policies. So I don't really see the similarities. Though if we could recompensate families for student lunches and medical debt that wouldn't be bad.
Can you clarify what you mean how two of them aren't an individual benefit? To me, getting access to free lunch or free healthcare despite people who didn't have it before follows the same rationale as getting access to student debt forgiveness despite people who didn't have it before. In both situations, a social service was added to help a struggling population, but the people who suffered before the service was implemented were not being compensated. You can even argue that under the free lunch mandate, a lot of rich kids are now getting their lunch subsidized by the government, while kids from poor families who didn't qualify for free lunch before had to pay for their meals for years simply because they didn't meet the income threshold.

But if you're saying that in all three cases we should compensate those who did not benefit from this new law, I guess I agree with you on a moral standpoint, but as you stated in the OP, there is just no feasible way to do this, practically speaking.

The thing I don't understand about this is that Public Student Loan Forgiveness already exists. It's already a service available to a small percentage of the population, where all your loans are automatically forgiven after 10 years, and the forgiveness is not taxable. But I don't see any outrage about people wanting to be compensated for not being eligible for that program when it first started in 2007.

Also, this isn't the first time something became available to people and previous people didn't get compensated.
- When Lasek was created, people with lifelong eye problems weren't compensated for all the money spent on glasses and contacts while newly-vision-impaired people got the treatment immediately
- Families of those who died of incurable medical conditions weren't compensated when a cure for that condition was invented that helps people today
- When Medicaid expansion became a thing and more people became eligible for Medicaid, no one who would have qualified for that expansion before it was passed was compensated for the years they didn't get it
- Many school districts across the nation have shifted to a free lunch format for the whole district (instead of only serving free-lunch-eligible students) so all students get fed regardless of income. Any families whose kids are now out of school are not getting compensated for the years of school lunches they had to pay for their kids simply because now all kids get free lunch.

That's just how progress works. When something new comes around, you can't retroactively compensate everyone who existed before that new thing came. Where would it end? If that were the case, nothing new could ever be introduced.

What are some songs that don't cover the common topics of love, sex, drugs, partying, depression, or inspiration?

Some examples of what I mean:
Thrift Shop by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis is about a guy who prefers to shop at thrift stores
I'm Too Sexy by Right Said Fred is about a narcissistic guy who thinks he is too sexy for his shirt
Sopa de Frijoles by Estrella is about a guy listing the ingredients to his favorite bowl of bean soup

What are some others? For the sake of the topic, let's avoid parody songs, just list songs that were initially created to be that way and not a play on an existing song or made specifically for a TV show (i.e. Like a Surgeon or Dick in a Box).

I have used it successfully a few times. You just need to be observant for signs of a scam. Some signs include:
- No pictures included
- Pictures look too professional like stock images
- Vague description of location
- Price too good to be true
- Alternative payment arrangements (usually it's a pervert trying to get a girl to have sex with him for a room; almost happened to a friend of mine)
- Very poor spelling/grammar issues
- Emphasis on cash payments only

Avoiding that, you will usually find legit renters just looking for a roommate. Always ask for a meeting, or if moving from afar, schedule a phone call or zoom meeting to have a live conversation. Ask for fresh pictures of the room, not just what's on the posting to make sure it's still the same room. Lastly, ask for payment options. While cash payments are often easiest, they should be willing to consider checks or phone cash apps. If not, they are shady.

it's weird how people talk about stuff like "the water level is based on the height you enter at" and "the clock speed is based on where the hand points" when there are literally toads nearby that explain in no uncertain terms how it works
The thing about Wet/Dry world that recently got me was that, while I do remember that the water level changed based on the height of your jump into the painting, I had forgotten that the high jump raised the water level higher than you possibly could within the level. This stumped me for over an hour when I tried to get to the pink Bob-omb at the top of the level. The highest switch wouldn't get the water high enough, and I couldn't jump high enough from any angle to reach it. I spent the rest of the time looking for those invisible teleporting platforms to get me up there, since other levels had that trick.

I had to actually look it up online to see that you could only raise the water high enough for the pink Bob-omb from outside the level. Not even the Toad would have helped then as one would assume the water height accessible from outside the level would have been the same heights available within the level.

I'm actually not sure how I figured it out as a kid. I may have just been farting around with fancy jumps and discovered it by accident.

It has its place. Heck, I still have cable, if only because it was like a $5 add-on to my internet service. I have like 4 streaming services but sometimes I don't want to have to decide what to watch (and Netflix's random player sucks). It's great when I come home from work and play whatever's on while I prepare dinner. Usually it'll be a movie or TV show I wouldn't normally watch if I had the choice on streaming, so it's a way to catch something new while not being too invested in it (and I can turn it off if I have to go without missing out on much).

But gone are the days where I would rush home to catch the newest episode of my favorite show live on TV. Watching new episodes of network/cable TV on Hulu in my own time is amazing and I can never go back.

I don't like Diego and Klaus. I was surprised to learn people like Klaus, he's intolerable.
Diego is the Luigi of this show. Always under #1's shadow. Between that and his childhood speech impediment, it makes sense he has an inferiority complex and acts out the way he does to overcompensate. I think he's great and can understand his stupid decisions sometimes.

I also understand why Klaus is the way he is, but I also find him annoying. Can't blame the guy, as his character acts the way I would expect a character with his abilities and his upbringing to act, but I just don't find it that fun to watch.

Regarding the topic, I agree, TC. Assuming you are talking about the episode where Luther betrayed his sister, I felt like that only happened to add drama to the show and advance the plot. Had he just given her a chance (like all the other siblings were pleading for him to, even Allison, who was directly victimized by her), the rest of the show wouldn't have happened. So I guess good for the show but bad for Luther's characterization I guess?

I think Season 2 did a good job of softening him a bit. But yeah, the point of this show is that all the characters take turns being insufferable.

I'm going to take this from a broader sense and say that people typically make friends with similar interests and often a similar lifestyle as them. Parents with kids will likely make friends with other parents with kids because they have more in common to talk about and more opportunities to hang out at kid-friendly places. They can still have friends with childless couples, but it's harder to maintain a friendship like that unless they find common interests that can also involve the kids.

To get to your point, I don't think it's as simple as "successful people only want to befriend other successful people". It's more that successful people will likely have similar hobbies and interests that other successful people have.

A good example is when I moved to a new town and joined a church. The membership of the church consisted almost entirely of blue collar workers. I was a white collar worker that worked in a university. For the vast majority of the members, I just couldn't find common ground enough to build friendships. I tried attending social events, but when they talked about work-related things, I couldn't relate as most of their conversations were about working outside, paid overtime, their union, all things that didn't apply to my job. Hobbies-wise, they talked about football and cars, two things that didn't interest me.

However, one of them loved board games and card games, so we did develop a friendship based on that. Eventually my wife befriended his wife, and even though we didn't have kids, we still hung out with them and their kids, and specifically went to kid-friendly places and watched kid-friendly movies. So it was very doable, there was just more effort that had to be put for some of the differences.

All of this to say is that there is nothing inherently wrong with becoming friends with people similar to you. We all have busy lives and maintaining a friendship is hard enough even when you do have similar interests. It's a problem when someone refuses to be friends with someone due to a generalized perception of them (i.e. I won't be friends because they are poor, I won't be friends because they are Muslim). Though I have seen people refuse to be friends with toxic people and I get that. There are people out there who are just nests of gossip, drama, and frustration and I can understand not wanting to get involved with that. But that can come from anyone in any background.

I remember a bible study group many years ago that discussed this. From my faint recollection of the discussion, the Bible does not explicitly forbid masturbation, but it does explicitly forbid lusting after unmarried women in a sexual way.

The gist of it was that you can technically masturbate (according to the Bible) if you don't use visual stimulation of another person, unless you are married to that person. Not because the Bible condones it, but it doesn't expressly forbid it.

I believe there is one passage that vaguely refers to sexual immorality and many have interpreted to mean masturbation, but that one feels like a reach.

Gen 6 really suffered for basically having so many little things that would have been great with more detail or a more polished version.

The rival actually being upset that they keep losing to you would have been great if it actually lead to something, but it never went anywhere (not even as little as Hop did in Sw/Sh). All of the other characters had like one bit of personalization that should have gone farther, but didn't. Either that or 2 of them needed to be gone, and they could have actually focused on giving Shauna something to do.

Skipping cutscenes would make literally every game since XY much better though.
I never played X/Y, but I'd argue the same thing for Sword/Shield. The idea of the 4-person rival squad (you, Hop, Marnie, and Bede) was actually pretty cool. But other than Hop, they did so little with Marnie and Bede, and both were characters that I found interesting. Bede particularly could have had some very interesting arcs, but they pretty much ended his halfway through. Marnie could have used a more climactic final moment, what we got was kinda boring considering the "Team" of the game was entirely focused on her.

It's amazing the difference having the right type of shoe can make when you run. I can't emphasize enough to buy a shoe with cushion made for running.

I was suffering knee and ankle pain while running and doctors initially told me I was likely getting arthritis and told me to cut down on running. I cut down on running but the knee pain was getting worse. I eventually got x-rays done on my knees and there was no sign of arthritis symptoms. Eventually the doctor just suggested I tried getting new shoes. I had some cheap old sneakers that I probably got at Walmart. I invested in $150 running shoes with extra cushion and the knee pain went away almost instantaneously.

I'll also add that my mileage and speed suffered drastically after changing shoes, mainly because I had become so accustomed to running 5k's with bad form in bad shoes, that running in proper form was challenging for me. I was feeling pain in calf muscles I never felt before, likely because the impact was hitting my knees moreso than most muscles.

Yeah, if you set your profile viewing to private mode, they can't see you viewed them when you look at their profile. You just can't see when they viewed yours either.

I have a simple system/loophole for this. I always keep my profile views public so I can see whenever someone has looked at my profile. If I need to see someone's profile, I go to my settings, set it to private, then look at their profile. Once I'm done looking, I set it back to public. Voila.

I wouldn't consider Linked-In profile viewing as creeping. You're looking at their professional background just like they'd put on their resume. It's not like they have a bikini album for you to look at.

What you suggested is fine, TC. Just tell her you didn't have her contact info and found her work email on the company website. That's not weird. It's literally why it's there, for people to find.

I'd imagine if you're comfortable enough to ask her for a reference, then your relationship should be good enough that she won't mind you found her at her new job.

"Returning" is kind of a weird term to use since he's only missed one post-Endgame movie, and that was a Spider Man movie he wouldn't have been in anyways. He's had much longer MCU movie hiatuses than this, lol.

There's a lot of attacks that make you wonder how they work. Like half of the fairy moves make little sense.

Then there's Draining Punch. How does that work? O_o
