According to a press release from the original, Kong was physically stronger and wanted to keep the battle at close range while Godzilla preferred to keep a distance and use his projectile advantage. (They also threw in an electricity power-up for Kong.)

Going into this version, I don't know what the advantages are beyond the obvious. Since Kong blocks the fiery breath in the trailer, maybe they're going with the idea that Godzilla's gonna find it futile to try it again.

I wonder if Godzilla will have his regenerative abilities? Actually I don't think he did in the last 2 movies, since he did pass out from his battle with the MUTOs.

I have a feeling they are going to team up against something else, instead of fighting to an end.

toho godzilla does regenerate, his G-cells are valuable. Biollante was made from them and Orga wanted them so bad he tried to eat godzilla whole

Zilla has a tail, 5th appendage. Zilla has spikes on his back that are radioactive. Zilla has atomic breath. Zilla has a faster regeneration factor (kind of shown in KotM with how fast he got up after Ghidorah nearly killed him), Zilla has some weird nuke-aura-explosion ability.

Kong has an axe that counters the Atomic Breath(presumably made of one of Zillas spikes), Kong has a higher intelligence, kong has a stronger punch. Kong is a straight up dick.

Okay, yeah, I kinda forgot about that. Godzilla Versus Biollante had a lot of weirdness going on. It was plot convenient for Godzilla to be cold-blooded when they tried to poison him, but it made no sense in the long run because he'd be too lethargic to engage in the kind of fight scenes they had him in if he was.

That IS how these movies make most of their money.

But I can almost guarantee the film goes like this (and this is based off previous flims, not just pulled out of my ass)

Kong and Zilla fight in the ocean, but gets cut short because Zilla leaves to fight something else (Mecha-Godzilla, not revealed yet)
Kong and Zilla fight again in Tokyo, Zilla ends up braking Kong jaw like in the original.
Kong Recovers, but they find out Zilla has been fighting himself somewhere (Mystery!)
They help Kong recover, he gets sent into help.
Kong delivers the final blow to Mecha-Godzilla and Zilla bows to him (becaus Kong bows to no one)

Lots of in between, but they've followed the originals pretty well, and Mecha-Godzilla is almost 100% confirmed.

Another thing of note is that KotM already gave us the setup to Mecha King Ghidorah by showing the Eco Terrorists buy Ghidorah's severed head that Godzilla bit off.

And that's a reveal you don't shove into the crossover and waste. So I'd rule that out for this.
