TopicMarried people of CE, do you let your wife control all your money?
Zanzenburger
12/03/20 12:39:23 PM
#25
When we got married, we turned both of our personal accounts into two joint accounts. So each account is still in our names and that's where our paycheck goes, but we both have access to both of them.

To manage our budget, we use YNAB. It essentially pulls our money into specific budget categories where we can allocate funds into specific areas, from immediate obligations like mortgage and phone bill, to savings categories like travel and new technology fund, to quality of life allowances like dining out, entertainment, and our own personal funds similar to the fun money mentioned above. For every expenditure save for our own "fun money" is discussed prior to every purchase. We stick to a strict categorized budget, so we won't go over a certain amount eating out per month, or spend more than we budgeted for clothes, or hair cuts, or window shopping. If we expect to make a bigger purchase, like plane tickets for vacation, we simply input money into the "travel" category every month in small increments, until it builds enough for the price of the plane tickets.

We do this because we both have a lot of student loan debt and we're trying to pay it off while still giving us some flexible spending money through the process.

I developed my own three-step process for doing papers of varying lengths (though this obviously works better with longer papers). Feel free to use or adjust as you see fit. From reading your OP, it seems similar to how you do it, mine is just structured so it works with any paper.

  1. The Sources Summary- I look for sources that may fit a topic. If it doesn't fit, I discard and go to the next one. If I find something useful, I enter the source (in APA/MLA/Chicago format) into a blank word document, then add a bullet point list of paraphrased sentences from the source that would likely fit into my paper. Rinse and repeat until you hit the minimum number of sources required (though I usually add 1 or 2 more just in case one of them doesn't work out). Save and finish.
  2. The Outline- Now I create the skeleton of the paper. On a separate blank document, I create all the headings (in the required style format), including Headings 1, 2, and if necessary, 3 and 4. Really think about how your paper is supposed to flow based on the sources in your sources summary. What story are you trying to tell? Organize it so that you do not have to come back and restructure your paper later. Create the headings in a way that all you have to do is fill them in later. It should essentially look like a table of contents without page numbers. Save and finish.
  3. The Body- Resave your outline as a new document, then start adding the body of the text. If you completed steps 1 and 2 thoroughly, the paper should pretty much write itself. Go to each heading, and reference your sources summary to see what sentence may fit. My strategy is that I bold every bullet point in the sources summary, then un-bold each sentence that I use, so that I know to skip passed it when skimming the document. Just keep writing your paper, and include that sentence and citation as you go through. Make sure to add the citation to your references page. By the end of your paper, all of your bullet points in your sources summary document should be unbolded by now. If you have any bolds left, figure out where they belong in your paper that you forgot to include them. If it no longer fits, just delete it. Give your paper a proofread, and you should be good to go.

It's not perfect, but I've used this strategy through three college degrees and it hasn't failed me yet. Makes the process feel more formulaic, which helps to keep that writer's block away that often comes up at the start of a paper. It also allows me to break the paper into three manageable segments that can be done on different days if necessary.

In my experience, strong women like to be more submissive in bed as a release from their regular day-to-day lifestyle.

I really don't have time to invest in long games. Even if I find a free afternoon, I would rather spend time with my wife. So I will play a game for about 30 minute increments then do something else. So shorter games are better, otherwise it would take me forever to finish one.

The only exception to this is games with local co-op campaigns. If you can beat the game with a partner, it allows me to do something with the wife, so we can spend hours in it. So if I do spend time on longer games, it's ones like Borderlands, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and Luigi's Mansion 3.

Though half the time we just play Minecraft and work on our village.

The dialogue is just awful. Every line said is either cliche or just pure cringe. Samus says "the baby" like over 50 times. The plot is also disorganized and falls apart halfway through. They literally drop a crucial plot point halfway through with no reference to it the rest of the game, only to switch to a generic anime trope plot.

And everything else mentioned in this topic.

It really depends where the food comes from on a given day. Sometimes they'll get a donation of steaks past the sell-by date at a supermarket (but not the actual expiration date), so patrons can get a steak dinner. More often, though, it is the basics. Rice and beans, or some type of soup/stew, and maybe a fruit cup or pudding. There is almost always a protein, ranging from beef and chicken, to spam and vienna sausages.

In many places it's an honor code system. If you feel the need to go get free food, then it's not their job to tell you that you don't need it. I have worked in different soup kitchens and you would be surprised how many middle class Americans in dockers and button ups are eating there with their kids. They have a nice house, but it is undervalued so they are drowning in mortgage payments and don't have enough for food. They have to choose between food or shelter for their kids. They would rather be foodless than homeless, so they come to the soup kitchen.

Though I have seen some soup kitchens that require proof of need, like a layoff notice or even a tax return showing low income.

This is the supportive side of CE I like seeing.

On-topic, I kinda get what some people are saying. Sometimes I was just curious to try different things than what we are used to wearing/doing.

In college, theatre helped a lot with that. I did improv, full plays, and musicals where I got to play dozens of different characters, including crossdressing as women for some. It was a great release to just be someone else for a while. Some of my best life memories involve my theatre days and it helped to scratch that itch.

I may join our local community theatre one of these days now that I am done with my grad degree. It's super easy to get a role as a guy in community theatre because so few guys do it.

Besides pay, what is most important in a job?

I recently took a pay cut for a new job. I had to move due to wife's job relocation. This had me thinking about the non-salary benefits the job brought.

I decided to make a list of the top 3 things I want in a job. For me, they were:
1. Pay
2. Short commute time to work
3. Good job title

So since the job was a pay cut, it needed to have my #2 and #3, which it did, so I took it.

How about you? If you had to pick your most important non-pay job benefit, what would it be? You are welcome to share your top 2 or 3 on your post.

Great for people with engineering, computer science, or supply chain management degrees. Business degrees work too depending on specialization.

Zanzenburger

Yeah I fought that all the time in school. At some point I just got sick of it and started working on my papers in pieces. I found a three-part division of labor that worked well for me through the creation of three documents:
  1. Source Descriptions Document: Basically an annotated bibliography. I went through and found sources that might fit my topic and created a document with all the sources and a quick, bullet-point list of statements or phrases that likely would fit what I would write about
  2. Paper Outline Document: On a different day, I would simply create the outline of my paper, complete with APA style-headings. The resulting paper would be about 2 pages of headings, but it would take a while to do as it required me to look at the source descriptions document and create a general flow for how I would present the information.
  3. Actual Paper: With the sources in hand, and a paper outline ready with headings, all I had to do was fill the headings in with text. I would basically start writing my paper, inserting the statements/phrases I wrote in the other document as they applied to the section I was writing, then crossing them out with track changes once I applied them. Once I crossed out every statement in the first document, I was done with my paper

The method worked pretty well, as each step can be done on a different day, so I didn't feel like I had to do it all at once. Depending on the length and complexity of the paper, step 1 and step 3 may be further divided into two days of work, but that wasn't very common.

Procrastination sucks, but once you find a methodical way to avoid it once, it gets easier going forward. I also give myself a hard deadline that is days earlier than the school deadline. Usually lets me breathe when I'm done.

I do remember this show taught me that you were supposed to wear green on St. Patrick's Day, as one episode dealt with Angela forgetting to wear green and the kids were threatening to pinch her after school. Then she realizes her sweater is reversible and is green on the inside. So she changes it and Ninette runs over to pinch her not realizing she was now wearing green, and apparently the rules are if you pinch someone getting green you get pinched. So the whole school pinched Ninette.

Yeah, it comes and goes for me. It hits me less often now than, say, 10 years ago. Typically I drown it out by being busy, so I always have something going on, even on my off days. It's those random days where I have absolutely nothing to do when my mind wanders into existential dread territory.

I don't even know why. Logically it shouldn't matter. I didn't exist before I was born, so why should it be any different after I die? For me I guess it's just I like to know things, and the thought of not knowing, or comprehending something as abstract as not existing really messes with my mind.

The craziest thing is that I am a religious person that believes in heaven, and the thought of spending an eternity in heaven also freaks me out. An eternity in anything, good or bad, just feels like torture at some point.

So I'm stuck between having to accept a reality where I don't exist or where I exist forever. Neither option sounds appealing.
