I have seen no one seriously arguing that it's below 2. I know there are some scientists that argue that it's above 3.
There have been studies that said 2. 2.2. 2-2.5. 2-3. 5-6. 5.8 6.6

Point is that there is absolutely zero consensus to it yet you acted like there was. You are providing "consensus"and facts that don't exist.

We don't know what % of New York has been infected. All we do know that it is definitely higher than their reported cases. Likely drastically much much higher.

The scientific consensus is that R0 is in the 2-3 range. It's certainly not less than ~1.4, which is what you would need for herd immunity even in the case where 30% of the population had been infected. Iirc serology testing has found antibodies in ~20-30% of NYC residents.

The combination of mitigation measures and partial herd immunity has self evidently brought the effective R below 1 since new cases have been decreasing there.
Antibodies fade quickly and are not reliable indicators of who all had the virus because you could have no antibodies and still have had it. The T Cell response remains after your antibodies fade within many people as little as 3 weeks later.

No they havent. Its not herd immunity unless they could go back to life as normal and not go back to exponential growth.

They may have had 20-30% of the city get the disease, which certainly helps stop the spread a lot (reducing R by a factor of .7-.8), which brings them below 1 when combined with their currently sustainable level of distancing, mask wearing, etc. But they had to go through a completely unacceptable level of death and suffering to even get to that.
Why are you acting like you know the r0 there or how much current measures are doing for the spread?

You can't possibly know any of that which you said, nor how many effectively have had the disease (nor muffin can).

It is all theory at this point.

Even abandoning all restrictions we would not reach herd immunity before having a likely vaccine.

We would just kill more people and actually cripple the economy.

That's one theory. It is also based on numbers of infected we likely will never fully know. It also is based on vaccine turnarounds that have never happened in history before also.

We have zero idea reliably how many actually have been infected in areas like say NYC in conjunction to what could constitute here immunity. We also have never seen a vaccine that possibly is coming in under a year compared to typically a 10 year cycle.

I don't think the NBA bubble will fail but they have not been consistent in the length of time players have to quarantine for breaching the bubble.

Richaun Holmes crossed the bubble line by like 10ft to grab delivery food - 10 Day Quarantine

Lou Williams leaves bubble for a funeral (and goes to a titty bar) - 10 Day Quarantine

Zion Williamson leaves bubble for a family matter - 4 Day Quarantine

Realistically Zion should have had to quarantine for longer in my opinion.
They base it on possible interactions. If Zion just went to his house with his family who has been in quarantine, then it would be 4 with a negative test result also of course. If to a big event, 10-14. That's why Caruso skipped his sister's wedding.

Even some players in the NBA bubble are not using masks because they don't believe. Multiple the amount of people involved by 15 and add cross country travel weekly and you get a sport that will end by week 4
They are in a literal bubble. I could see why they would think a mask in a bubble without the virus wouldn't need a mask. Would you wear a mask if you knew every single person you would encounter didn't have the virus?

True. I also don't know when your end of year dates are either. But, what if the administration has a mass outbreak and has to take 14-20 days or so of quarantining at home? What if they decide midyear vaccines are up and running so they can transition back so need like a month or so to get everything ready in the building to transition. What if your teachers strike? Etc etc.

I mean, I am not saying they shouldn't push back. I am saying though that there could be scenarios where having the leeway might be beneficial also.

*Sigh* trying not to lose my patience with you.

Kids tend to conform to the authority right in front of them and with others that are following the rules around them. Kids who have had no structure in a learning environment and are in houses surrounded by their TV's, toys, games, etc, are much harder to get to learn and follow instruction. This also compounds in development throughout their life and can cause a learning deficiency.

Send K-5 back. Have K and 1 in 1 building with 1 start time. 2 and 3 in another building with a different start time. 4 and 5 in another building with a different start time. Allow to watch virtual classes if they wish to opt out.

Use gymnasiums, cafeterias, etc for much larger spaces to space out kids in each school. Busses are socially distanced via the spread out across times and schools. Classes are distanced. 6-12 learns remotely. And people can still opt their kids out and watch classes remotely from home if uncomfortable. If family or they are sick, tune into the virtual feed!

Florida appears to have plateaued on cases. Deaths have been near highs or close lately at around 120-170 a day. Hospitalizations are continuing to rise from what I have seen with about 400 new hospitalizations a day (not sure how many discharged). However, not exponentially growing though.

5 minors have died in Florida now. The youngest being 9 years old.

538 has Gideon ahead in every poll conducted in 2020 except a R pollster at the beginning of the month. Gideon has a D pollster in May at +9 but Gideon has the lead in every non-partisan poll conducted in 2020 and by the highest rated pollster in that period, PPP, twice.

Uh...

Polls marked with an asterisk are partisan polls. Partisanship is determined by who sponsors the poll, rather than who conducts it. Polls are considered partisan if theyre conducted on behalf of a candidate, party, campaign committee, or PAC, super PAC, 501(c)(4), 501(c)(5) or 501(c)(6) organization that conducts a large majority of its political activity on behalf of one political party.

That eliminates 3 polls, Moore information and the 2 victory geeks.

Then...

Public Policy Polling is a U.S. Democratic polling firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina. PPP was founded in 2001 by businessman Dean Debnam, the firm's current president and chief executive officer.

What are you talking about???

That's the good thing about RCP, it labels the Republican and Democrat polling outfits with (R) and (D) respectfully so you know to take their polls with a grain of salt.
