Given what your online postings reveal about your mental state, you'd probably be assigned to said lower caste. You've got a whole lot of pent-up aggression there, dude.

Why replace?

Because that's exactly what you're suggesting has to happen with PC's, and you can't make a comparison without giving consoles the same treatment.

The difference, of course, is that fully replacing a PC or its parts is the norm, whereas it's much more common to keep older consoles around to be able to play their games. If you instead kept an old PC around to play older games, you would have no compatibility issues. The reason for that norm, though, is that a newer PC is likely to be able to play older games (especially if we're talking about anything this millennium, since it's mostly only pre-XP stuff that presents a problem), whereas a console is not (since console games are specific to that console, specific examples of BC aside). Ergo, PC's are better at compatibility than consoles.

It is also worth noting, though, that GOG has made considerable strides in porting older PC games to alleviate the compatibility issues that might otherwise have plagued them. They're also completely independent from Steam, and in fact have no DRM at all. But I wouldn't expect you to know this because you bury your head in the sand when it comes to modern PC gaming.

Planning for what? Planning on cooking the same meals over and over again that you're ordered to on a daily basis

Specials mix things up, but even without them, there is indeed a lot of planning that goes into making sure a kitchen runs smoothly. The fact that you don't wait for six hours when you order a bowl of soup is a reflection of the fact that the kitchen planned to have it available for you. There are a whole lot of dishes that can't be made to order, and for those that can, there's a lot of pre-cooking and station setup that goes into making sure kitchen staff aren't tripping over each other and things can be prepared efficiently.

Over time, yes, patterns emerge that make the planning simpler, and you can establish routines rather than having to reinvent the wheel every evening, but operating efficiently still means being on top of local goings-on (such as a cruise ship being in town, for a port city) in order to estimate how busy you're going to be and not over- (in which case you waste food) or under-prepare (in which case you lose business and reputation). And, again, specials throw a wrench into everything, because they mean you're either preparing an unusual dish, or you're serving more of the discounted item than you usually would and have to adjust your projections accordingly. There's a real art to being able to direct a kitchen well.

Time for a lesson in word problems:

-You said "Chefs make 8 pounds/hour" (round figures).
-Sunny said "I make double that"

Use of the word "double" in a word problem means you should multiply the object of that quantifier by two. 2*8=16. Ergo, Sunny stated that he makes 16/hour.

The fact that Sunny makes chicken hot for a living indicates that he is knowledgeable about making chicken hot. That's it. Being knowledgeable about anything else requires education and/or experience that has nothing to do with what you do for a living.

Also, again, Magus is paid more than you because his trade is more valuable than yours, therefore his views hold more weight than yours. By your exact logic, because you don't get to pick and choose when logic matters.

Not to side with kyuubi here (and I'm not sure of the actual stats and dont feel like researching) but I'd venture to guess that the average welder makes more than the average cook. A lot of welders make damn good money but very few cooks progress to the level of a head chef or professional/private chef to get to the point where they actually make a career out of it. The bar is definitely lower for being a successful welder than a successful chef though

Oh, I don't doubt it. Without researching it myself, I'd guess welders end up clustered more closely around a higher median salary, while chefs end up more broadly distributed around a lower median. The worst and best paid chefs are paid a lot less/more (respectively) than the worst/best paid welders, I would imagine. But then Kyuubi himself has rejected the idea that salary matters beyond personal ability to afford what one needs/wants to be fulfilled, so I guess that's no longer relevant.

Though, as an aside, I'd like to call attention to the fact that Kyuubi hasn't actually talked about his own salary yet. Just his dad's. He seems to be basing this whole "I'm more important than you" thing not on how much money he makes, but how much his dad makes. What a fun observation that is.

Standard business protocol is not to make everything hidden behind fees. Some businesses do it, others don't. Google provides free cloud storage, Apple does, many other companies do. Now, it isn't the biggest deal that Nintendo is doing this, but it is cheap and has not been beneficial to them.

Standard business protocol is to charge for products/services you wish to sell. Yes, other companies have offered cloud storage for free, but that doesn't mean every company has to do so. If one cafe offers free cookies to go with their coffee, does that mean every bakery in the world should be expected to give away cookies for free as well? Of course not. Choosing to offer a service for free is done as an incentive to attract people to other, more valuable products/services, and that decision is entirely on the company.

Now, would offering free cloud storage be a good business move for Nintendo? Probably. That'd set them apart from the other two consoles, while not actually costing them that much (presuming they're making a solid profit margin on those $20/year subscriptions, which are really quite cheap). But that's still their decision.

EvilMegas posted...
Stop defending them suddenly making us pay for something they offered for free for no good reason.

"Suddenly"? They've literally been talking about this service coming since before the system launched. That online play had been free before now has always been painted as a bonus for early adopters while they ironed out how they wanted the subscription to work. That was supposed to be happening last fall, so it kind of sucks that everyone that's bought a Switch in the past year and a half has grown accustomed to having it be free, but nothing about this is sudden. We knew this was coming. I'm pretty sure it's even printed on the system's box.

Now, is it a good service? Not really. It's a reasonable enough price for online play, but the incentives they're tossing in are pretty pathetic. The only reason cloud saves are valuable at all is because they don't offer a manual backup option, and tying voice chat to a smartphone app is pretty silly (though having it as an option wouldn't be unreasonable). But don't act like Nintendo suddenly swooped in out of nowhere and paywalled online without warning. This has been coming for a long time. If you didn't know that, it's your own fault for not paying attention.

Your ignorance of history is showing. It only became at all normal for women to shave because Gillette and a number of other companies had a whole bunch of razors it couldn't offload because all the men were off fighting in the war, so they started a propaganda campaign to get women shaving. A chef is significantly more likely to end up running their own business than a steel worker is. Even ignoring that potential, you also work for somebody else. You don't have agency, you follow the blueprint your boss gives you. Likening yourself to a blacksmith is also pretty laughable. You're not creating anything. Blacksmiths are the modern blacksmiths, not steel workers.

The point you're trying to make (and failing, because I don't think you really understand the situation) is that, as society has developed, physical power has been eclipsed by other forms of power. As I mentioned earlier, the list of people who could beat Trump into submission is much larger than the list that couldn't, and half of the latter list is only there because they couldn't catch him when he ran away. Despite this he's currently considered to be one of the most powerful people in the world. Individual physical power means very little these days.

Physically, could women be subjugated? Sure. But we don't live in a world where that matters. Political power is what drives the cultural change effected by feminism. Women don't need to beat men up to convince them that there's no particular point in most gender restrictions, and convincing a majority to agree with you is all it really takes to change a democratic society.

Put another way: why do you listen to your boss at work? Because he'd beat you up if you didn't? Of course not. Because he controls your livelihood? Yep. Physical power means nothing there. You are subservient not because he's subjugated you by force, but because of his financial power.

If only banks existed.

Banks do indeed exist. Now all you have to do is personally identify a person or group in need, identify a service that will reliably fill that need, and transfer your money to that person or group so they can access that service.

In practice, having a charity do all of that legwork is a whole lot more efficient than each individual donor doing it themselves, even if it creates overhead costs. That doesn't mean those costs can't be inflated to abusive levels, but the concept of charitable organizations is not inherently wrong.

This is something that I think a lot of people don't quite realize. I remember a topic a few years back where somebody was wondering why Red Cross sent them an email saying their donated blood had been given to a firefighter, since they didn't think that was necessary, and the point was raised (by Clench, I believe) that donor retention is one of the biggest challenges they face, and that it's absolutely vital to put some effort into making people feel good enough about donating that they they want to do it again. It's also a lot easier to convince somebody who's already donated to donate more than to get somebody to give for the first time, which is why efforts go toward that.

Does it go too far sometimes? Yeah. This topic is an example of that. Personally, though, if I get some sort of message trying to tell me how great more donations would be, even though it's unnecessary and a little annoying, I just accept that it's something they really need to do.

Most of that difference boils down to being able to express those opinions cohesively and in a likable manner, meaning you and your "everyone who disagrees with me is an idiot" personality might struggle with it.

Edit: I know that wasnt the question. Just saying, this aint a fad.

Fortnite(And BattleRoyale genre) is absolutely a fad, maybe even more so than Minecraft, being free doesn't change that. Minecraft is also still very popular among the pre/early teen range.

It's a fad in the sense that it won't be a popular style of game forever, since you can only play/watch so much Battle Royale before it gets boring, but between the accessibility and the fact that it's just a solid game in its own right, Fortnite's dominance of the subgenre is likely to be around for as long as that subgenre is. To that end, dismissing Fortnite itself as "just a fad" is a little over-simplistic.

considering the sun WILL stop shining, as will every other star in the universe, there is no possibility for immortality.

If we're talking about immortality, it stands to reason that finding a way to reverse the heat death of the universe would be a part of developing that. Really, if we start getting individual minds lasting long enough to potentially outlive the sun, that's not that far-fetched. We've seen what a handful of gifted human brains can accomplish in a few decades, who's to say they couldn't rewrite thermodynamics with a hundred million times longer than that?

She is statistically more likely to cheat if she has more past sexual partners.

Generally speaking, before marrying somebody, you should get to know them well enough to not have to rely on statistics to predict whether or not they'll cheat. Statistics don't really mean much when you've got detailed information on the individual.

You'll die of nutritional deficiencies.

You won't, actually. Potatoes are actually very nutritious, provided you eat the skins. You'll probably go insane from eating the same thing for literally every meal, but an all-potato diet is viable.

And when the need doesn't arise, glucose turns to fat and wrecks your liver, which protein does not.

Excess amino acids get split up into ammonia (further processed to urea, which can lead to gout if you have too much of it) and glucose, which means more glucose to process and store (as fat). An excess of anything will be turned to fat; you don't get away from that by avoiding carbs.

Seems pretty right to remove something wholly unnecessary from your diet.

You can survive on literally nothing but potatoes and water. Why do you eat anything else when they're so wholly unnecessary?

Kyuubi4269 posted...
No carbohydrate has necessary nutrients,

Glucose is a necessary nutrient, given that it's the preferred food for most cells and the only food the brain can normally consume (in extreme starvation, it'll also eat ketone bodies, but then you're getting into ketoacidosis and that's really not a good thing). In terms of macronutrients, both fat and proteins can be converted into glucose if the need arises (and vice versa, provided you've got the nitrogen handy for proteins and you cover your essential amino acids), but that doesn't mean carbohydrates don't provide something essential. It just means they aren't the only source of it.

disruptive

If a minute of one guy doing something that only immediately affects himself noticeably intrudes on the entire 3-hour game (of which one minute is approximately 0.56%), let alone to such an extent as to be described as "extreme" (your exact word choice), that's entirely your own fault. Learn some compartmentalization.

It doesn't surprise me. People are pretty stupid. The complaints about BLM obstructing traffic and the like were never really about the inconvenience. They just wanted the political statement they disagreed with to go away, and saying "they should be less disruptive" was easier to justify than saying "they should do it where I never have to hear anything about it."
