A few tweaks I would make here and there on both lists. Mewtwo is definitely a top/high A tier character. Young Link is A tier the only thing holding him back is a solid kill confirm, but he can pressure crazy good. Meta knight Im doubly for being A tier though I havent played him a lot. I may get flack, but I honestly do not see Ritcher/Simon as top tier. Id honestly put them as a low A/Solid B tier.

An update:

As some of you may have noticed, there's much less for this patch as a whole. The majority of catalogued changes are mainly bugfixes, and many character Discords have reported no gameplay differences for a good chunk of the cast. It seems likely that the majority of the changes that are not known at this point are just bugfixes, if not all of them (alternatively, there may be changes to less competitively oriented features like final smashes or visuals that we're not aware of at this time).

Because a handful of these changes do affect gameplay (namely Pac-Man & Z-dropping out of hitstun), it is likely Nintendo just classified these as balance changes. We will still be attempting to figure out what has changed regarding fighters, but just be aware that it may be slower because some of these characters were not known to have major bugs or issues with their programming.

It's not terribly surprising given the recency of the patch compared to launch, but ultimately we're happy that this is more of a first run as we adjust back into doing these routine cycles (it's been some time since 1.1.6 Wii U!), and we look forward to working with you all in the future.

I think it's because the cable isn't built in, it connects via USB-C, so the signal has to pass through more components. But even then the difference between wired or wireless is like .2 of a frame so it shouldn't affect anyone but the best of the best players.

Why is the top listing characters twice? Corrin and Wii Fit trainer, for starters. Richter as well.

The tier list generator probably makes male and female tabs for Corrin and WFT. Also looks like Leff was memeing and saying Male Corrin is high tier but Female Corrin is mid lmao. Pretty sure they have exact same movesets.

Richter and Simon are technically different characters, despite being echo fighters.

ah so its just not very reliable.

It's still really early and tiers won't start to be settled upon for months. It's just neat to see what two of the worlds best players agree or disagree upon so far.

early roster impressions (unordered within tiers, maybe missing a few in solid, like half the cast wasn't even ranked because this is about gauging "the best" early)

-this might be the first game since 64 where Yoshi is a high tier contender

-Pichu's actually good lol why

-Most Sm4sh high/top tiers are still good after tweaks

-Roy/Chrom really do appear to be good, but I expect "corrections" to happen and for them to eventually drop pretty rapidly

-Best heavy is either DK or Rool. Ridley has the most developmental potential out of any heavy (he has really good tools)

-Ness is doing better than "solid" right now but it's the same kind of stuff that happened early in sm4sh where he's good in advantage but really exploitable, and he'll start getting a lot worse like in sm4sh when people learn to exploit him harder

-peach is pretty scary but sword users will keep her in check

-I think Jr. is the worst character in the game at the moment

K. Rool should definitely be in "the best" category. He seems to not only be the best heavy, his kit is honestly ridiculous. He's not broken but he's damn good.

For real. Top tier recovery, two projectiles, two bury moves, multiple spikes, and a counter. Not to mention super armor out the ass.

His only downsides are his gold plate can break resulting in a shield break and he's a heavy so more area to hit, but all heavys deal with that.
