I live in Alberta, and Montana is basically Alberta Jr., and I know that the social issues Montana faces are the same social issues southern Alberta faces. Gerald Harris is a native man. The native community around here has an unbelievably widespread FASD problem. I don't know the exact percentage, but something like 30% of native people in this area have FASD. If you know the history of how the native people got screwed over by European traders/bandits about 150 years ago, you'd understand the root cause of that. The recovery didn't hurt too bad, but they had a blood drainage tube connecting the inside of me to the outside through my ribcage, which was really tender if you bumped it but otherwise wasn't horrible. A week or so later, the tube had to be removed. They literally just pull it out. You feel it tugging on your innards. Exactly what you'd imagine being stabbed is like, except like 10 seconds long. | faramir77 01/28/18 4:09:28 PM #27 | To those complaining about taxes, I don't know how it works in the US but Canada is EXTREMELY decentralized, easily the most decentralized country in the first world. Provinces have much more power to govern themselves than states do and the federal government really only has power over foreign affairs (diplomacy and military) and constitutional law. Health care, education, infrastructure, etc. all belongs to the provinces. When people say "Canada has universal health care" they really mean "every province in Canada has agreed individually that universal health care is a human right". This decentralization has led to big differences in taxes between provinces. Here in Alberta, we pay less taxes than much of the US. Provinces like New Brunswick or Quebec pay taxes that are astronomical. And I get an honest laugh at people complaining about "lack of free speech in Canada".
