Would you rather live in the United States or Canada?

The United States and the UK have fallen down the list of the World's Best Countries with Switzerland and Canada remaining the TOP 2 NATIONS!!

Researches said the lack of economic confidence in the UK following Brexit and awarded Germany the #3 spot that's recognized for its strong gender equality and government transparency.

Brazil is the best country to visit and Italy ranks highest nation with the richest traditions.

Responddents also gave their opinions of world leaders and gave high praise to Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Angela Merkel of Germany who are respected globally

The highest disapproval no doubt were US President Trump and Russian President Vladir Putin.

America fell to #8 after Sweden and Australia. It drops in 2 key categories with "open for business" and "movers" that analyzies up and comign economies

The reasons for the fall for the second straight year is fuelled by the world's perceptions of the country becoming less progressive and trustworthy. Respondents also said the country is becoming unstable just after a year in office for Trump but the US and Russia remains the top 2 for world power and China runs 3rd.

Would you rather live in America or Canada? let's see what people will vote.

This is that same biased "research" story that was going around a few days ago? Pretty well-debunked once you look at the categories, etc. At any rate, having lived in Canada, I wouldn't consider doing it again.

There's a very good chance based on how much money you make in a year you would pay more in the US.

https://simpletax.ca/calculator
https://smartasset.com/taxes/income-taxes#zfl2zPHVet

(A randomly picked Cincinnati OH and somewhere called New Brunswick)

Anual income: $10,000
CA: $485
US: $765

Anual income: $15,000
CA: $1,435
US: $1,587

Anual income: $20,000
CA: $2,917
US: $2,469

Anual income: $25,000
CA: $4,399
US: $3,596

Factor in what you're paying for in health insurance.

https://www.zanebenefits.com/blog/bid/97380/faq-how-much-does-individual-health-insurance-cost

Average monthly premiums for self-only coverage in 2016: $536 ($6,432 An)
Average monthly premiums for family coverage in 2016: $1,511 ($18,132 An)

https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/group-plan-administrators/msp-premium-changes-2018

Self Only: $393/month ($4,716)
Family: $1,021/month ($12,252)

Now I'm at a dead end here because I can't get averages for income brackets on MSP, or I can and don't feel like it, and someone else has probably done the math you don't care to hear. It's looking like you would pay more in the US up until $75,000, at least until Trump's tax raises take effect.

Your other complaints are just "fuck gays and immigrants", and I can't relate. There is certainly a reason I have you tagged as racist, probably because you called Oprah a disgusting chicken stuffer.

Well as someone that lived and worked in the US and Canada (in a state with no income tax) I lost more of my US paycheque to taxes as a percentage of income at 30k a year though it was close. Then take out the health insurance from your pay and no contest, I lost far more of my income in the US.

Where I live the total tax on 25k is $3,563

So it is lower.

No monthly health care premium either.

Well, I currently live in Canada and everything seems to be better here than when I lived in the US. Better infrastructure, better wages, better standard of living, better overall optimism of the populace. Even the cold is overblown (I live near Toronto), as it's not any colder than the area of Pennsylvania I'm from.

Ageed. Also the doctors here have more power than judges in that they can put you involuntarily in a hospital where you can't leave if they just claim you're a threat to yourself or others. Living in Canada is like walking on eggshells with the law, but if you lie, weasel or cry your way out of it, you can potentially get very minimal sentences and liberal mentality favours the perpetrator over the victim.

Canada is okay, but I'd rather live somewhere in Western Europe. North America in general is kind of provincial, which is fine, but I feel out of place culturally. I fit in better over there than I do here, after spending a month visiting relatives in a couple of places a lot of things clicked... Partly this just stems from being raised in an ex-pat community until I was about 5. I had an accent until I went to school...

To those complaining about taxes, I don't know how it works in the US but Canada is EXTREMELY decentralized, easily the most decentralized country in the first world. Provinces have much more power to govern themselves than states do and the federal government really only has power over foreign affairs (diplomacy and military) and constitutional law. Health care, education, infrastructure, etc. all belongs to the provinces.

When people say "Canada has universal health care" they really mean "every province in Canada has agreed individually that universal health care is a human right". This decentralization has led to big differences in taxes between provinces.

Here in Alberta, we pay less taxes than much of the US. Provinces like New Brunswick or Quebec pay taxes that are astronomical.

And I get an honest laugh at people complaining about "lack of free speech in Canada". You have no idea what you're talking about.

Probably laziness but also Canada's strict immigration policies. Canada has a point based immigration program and only accepts immigrants with high levels of educational attainment and/or work experience.
