Yeeeaah that was the weakest ending to an episode so far. David/Oliver plot aborted, characters act stupid to drive plot, girl whose power is she hits people runs towards a guy with a gun and gets shot. And them not reading disguised Eye's mind because "he wanted to talk" also facilitated all this

Oh I wrote all that but the reason I started writing it was the effect at the end where the ghost Lenny/Benny looked excited behind David at the end looked way worse than the effects in the show normally do

David's actor has this thing where his delivery almost always has this slight comedic edge to it

I think this scene of The Eye slowly approaching them is supposed to be epic but it's too comical to think all the swat agents are shooting around him perfectly

David is a Marvel character, but it's probably best not to look him up.

anyway, I really enjoyed the show, and I appreciate how different it was from other Marvel properties.

I get the feeling that if this was MCU I wouldn't even be watching it. I miss when comic book properties had more creative freedom on what the world is like and what genre it will be. I guess there was Wandavision but I didn't see that, and it seems the exception

They used the term mutants and I know this is a marvel property but it doesn't seem to be actually X-Men. I know nothing about this show except it was recommended to me after Mr. Robot.

Im at episode 2. I'd be surprised if David is not genuinely mentally ill beyond his powers. I'm curious how the show will ultimately treat the issue of mental health.

Also "memory work" and "talk work" seems like potentially its own brainwashing lol. I mean how would it be different than what he already did at the hospital besides enhanced by powers? Idk if it's intended that I don't feel comfortable trusting anyone, including David.

The modern focus on RT instead of an aggregate like Metacritic has IMO been a bad development for media from a consumer perspective. What a RT score means is unclear to many and people think an 80% score means 8/10 movie when it's typically more like a 6/10 if compare to MC. An 8/10 MC is something like a 90% RT score typically

Also, movie ratings aren't as inflated as video game ratings so 6/10 doesn't necessarily mean bad

95% on RT just means that 95% of viewers would rather recommend the movie than not recommend it.

Akechi is used excellently in Royal and has a way better 'redemption' than Dojima laughing it up with Adachi at the prison every week after being nothing but abusive to him all of Persona 4.

this is the guy's second channel where he does silly short videos basically. his main channel is 'big joel' where he makes thoughtful in depth videos

okay cmon guys he's not "distressed" he finds the scene really funny, and honestly it is if you see it. I had to think a lot to interpret why that scene was in beyond Nolan trying to introduce the quote early to show Oppenheimer knew it

I like big joel but that scene was clearly to reframe the Trinity test quote as the selfish "climax" of Oppenheimer's work
