I think Im on the path to a regular retirement.

Im 45, my wife is 46. We have about 7 years left on our mortgage, but the plan is to take that money and continue to save it, assuming we dont have to use it towards college or other expenses.

I lucked out (?) and got a decent chunk of change when my parents passed between inheritance and selling their house.

Who knows what the future holds, but I think both my wife and myself should be able to retire in our early 60s.

you need to factor in concert sales. looked at prices yesterday...1.2k for a nosebleed seat
But that's the thing, it's also hard to quantify because of inflation, how much current stars rely on touring vs in the past, etc.

Yes, you could buy a ticket for The Beatles in 1966 for $3, but concerts weren't nearly the money generating venture they are now.

When the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan, the rating was 45.3. 45.3% of ALL TVs in the US were watching them. Which equates to about 23 Million homes watching it.

That's bugger than SuperBowl numbers.

right now? she's the most popular music star in the history of the world ever

I don't know if there's a way to quantify this, given how much the distribution of music has changed over the years.

Best I've seen is to see what an artist's EAS is (Equivalent Album Sales) number is. EAS takes into account both audio and video streaming. Formula is basically:

Studio album: sales of the original album (ratio 1/1)
Other LPs: sales of compilations generated thanks to the album (ratio 1/1)
Physical singles: sales of physical singles from the album (added to CSPC total with a ratio 3/10 for 2-tracks, 5/10 for EPs and Maxis)
Digital singles: sales of digital singles from the album (ratio 1.5/10 for CSPC total)
Streaming: equivalent album sales of all the album tracks (ratio 1/1500 for Audio stream and 1/6750 for Video stream)

If you use that, Taylor Swift is the 30th best selling artist of all time.

https://chartmasters.org/best-selling-artists-of-all-time/

This obviously does not take into account concert or merchandise sales. This is strictly based on music sales/streams.

Assuming you're talking about modern times, how an artist is considered a "success" has drastically changed.

No one cared how many "views" or "streams" an artist like Mariah Carey had in the 90's. All she did was put out 19 different songs that went to #1 on the Billboard chart.

The Beatles have 20, the most of all time.

By comparison, Drake has 11. But Drakes download and streaming numbers dwarf both of theirs.

As far as album sales all time, Drake isn't even in the top 20, and that includes online sales.

Do you think your partner would ever need to feel "sincere regret" about checking out a celebrity? And that they would've been so upset about their behavior that they'll never find a celebrity attractive again?

My partner? No.

But everyone has a different opinion of what's considered "cheating". Some think it's sex. Some say kissing. Some say engaging in flirtatious conversation. Some say just mere sexual thoughts of another person is cheating.

So a blanket statement by the wizard of "Yes, your partner cheated on you" can mean a myriad of things.

This happened to me ONCE in my very early 20's.

There were two girls that I worked with. Unknown to me, one of them REALLY liked me. She left that job to go away to college, and me and a few co-workers went to visit her for her 21st Birthday. I got a little tipsy and we ended up hooking up (all above the waist stuff).

Fast forward to that summer, where I was kinda seeing the other girl. Original girl came back from college and starting working there again for the summer. We all went out one night for post-work drink that the original girl made a bit of a scene because I wanted nothing to do with her (not in a rude way, but in a "I though we moved past this" way).

From what I could tell, the animosity really didn't last much past that night, and I left that job after the summer was over to start a new one. Never saw the original girl again. Kept seeing the other one off and on for about another year.

Definitely GenX.

GenX years are generally 1965-1980, and all 6 of them were born within those years, or within a year or two of it.

Kudrow 1963
Cox 1964
Schwimmer 1966
LeBlanc 1967
Aniston 1969
Perry 1969

So either late Boomers or Early GenXers.

I could definitely see you getting pushback if you talk about how you have a house. Some homeowners definitely have an out of touch outlook on life (not saying you do). I worked with a woman who said things like "I don't think kids should be raised in an apartment. I raised my kids in a beautiful house"

I can see that, but I tend to only just bring it up in a "I struggled to get this, you probably can as well".

I spent most of my mid-20s it a beat-ass one bedroom apartment with my wife (then GF), living on hand me down, mis-matched furniture, fast food, and A LOT of Ramen noodles while we were both living off jobs that barely paid us 30K a year. But we saved and scraped as much as we could, and figured it out.

20 years later, and now most of our furniture matches. lol

My uncle was a NYC Police officer through the 80s and 90s, so I'm sure he had his share. He lived in our house, but I only saw his gun once. He worked the overnight shift, so he was usually gone when I woke up from school, and was home and asleep by the time I got home.

As far as myself, the only thing I can think of, other than actually going to range with a friend to shoot his gun, was when I was a teenager (old enough to go tot he mall on my own, but not old enough to drive) a friend and I were walking from a shopping center to the mall, when 2 kids on bike came up to us and tried to "rob" us. When we told them to F off, one of them pulled an obviously fake "gun" from his jacket sleeve. It was clearly plastic. I think it was one of those "real" looking water guns.

He tried to grab my friend by his shirt, and when he did, the "gun" fell on the floor. My friend stepped on it and it broke into about a dozen pieces. They panicked and rode off on their bikes.

That was at least 25-30 years ago and my friend and I laugh about it every so often.

Why go if you feel the time will be wasted? Idk about others, but I just like spending time with certain friends and family So, if anything, its just a good time to catch up with everyone And have fun at a little get together

I'd honestly rather have (and then to enjoy) a "no reason" family gathering that is more informal than one where there's some sort of made up structure to it that only caters to half the party.

Maybe I'm just not being invited to the right parties? Lol.
