Was at 1/4 tank?

Someone let you borrow their car when you were in a pinch but you didn't need to go far (the amount in the tank more than covers how far you need to travel)

Given a scenario where gas is free and the only cost to you is time and little over a mile out of your way, would you fill it up for them?

Even if the gas wasn't free, I'd fill it up as thanks for doing me a favor. I'd have to really be struggling to just return the car with no extra gas.

Surprised at the amount of Yes votes.

People I asked in person were No and one 'depends on the person'

Anytime I've ever borrowed someone's car (for example, my car was in the shop and I borrowed my parent's car) I've returned it with a full tank of gas.

In this hypothetical I'd fill it right up. In reality, I'd fill it to a bit above where it was when I took it.

Hypothetically, they were kind enough to help and trust me with their car, so I'd even full tank it after at least.

This whole situation makes no sense because of the "if gas is free" part.

Without that part, yes you should fill it up all the way depending on how long you used it. If it was a few hours, fill it all the way. If it was to pick up groceries, maybe bump it to half.

you're a bad borrower of stuff if you return it in a lesser state than what it was.

i'd put gas in it even if it wasn't free.
