The marketing for those movies were pretty bad. Strange World had a really sick poster but the animation and character design felt really uninspired.

Amsterdam deserved to fail and I'm glad it did cuz fuck David O Russell and his garbage movies.

How much money does Disney have that they can afford to piss away dollars before it starts to hurt them? Last time I heard, Nintendo had more than 10 years worth.

There is no number. Disney owns too much to ever actually be phased by any period of loss.

It's not that simple when it comes to Disney. They own all kinds of parks, TV, websites, hotels & timeshares, comics, music, and movie studios.

Every single one of these things would need to operate at a loss for years before Disney started going "wait a minute...."

Like Marvel comics might be bleeding money but that could just be considered part of marketing for the movie which makes a billion dollars.

Nintendo is much more straightforward by comparison. Their money is pretty much wrapped up entirely in a very small hardware group and software / intellectual property licensing.

They have literally just opened their first movie studio and it hasn't made anything yet. They're way behind Disney.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Premiere's Viewership Is Disappointing To Disney

The viewing figures for The Mandalorian season 3s premiere have been revealed, and fall somewhat short of Disneys lofty expectations for Star Wars.

Third-party analytics have revealed The Mandalorian season 3's viewing figures, but they likely fall somewhat short of Disney's hopes for Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni's Star Wars Disney+ TV show. The first season of The Mandalorian released alongside the launch of Disney+, becoming a cultural phenomenon. Engagement with season 2 was just as high, and skyrocketed after a Luke Skywalker cameo in the season finale set the internet ablaze. No Doubt Disney hoped The Mandalorian season 3 would reach similar heights, but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case.

Streaming services don't tend to release viewing figures, meaning third-party analytics are the closest to accurate figures it's possible to get. The Wrap has published data from Samba TV, estimating that The Mandalorian season 3's premiere was watched by just under 1.5 million households. As noted by The Direct, this is comparable to other Star Wars Disney+ TV shows. The Book of Boba Fett's premiere was 2 percent higher, with just over 1.5 million views; Obi-Wan Kenobi, however, dramatically outperformed The Mandalorian season 3 by a massive 28 percent. The most uncomfortable comparison is with The Mandalorian season 2's premiere, which was around 25 percent higher...

After Ant-Man 3s Second Weekend Box Office Collapse, Should Marvel Get Concerned?

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania took a sizable hit in its sophomore outing at the box office. Ticket sales for the third Marvel movie starring Paul Rudds subatomic hero were down 69% from its $105 million debut, resulting in the biggest second-weekend drop in the franchises history.

That fall has inspired plenty of debate among analysts and experts: Is the films performance a blip or an inflection point in Hollywoods biggest property? The answer is likely somewhere in between, according to senior Comscore analyst Paul Dergarabedian.

As second weekend drops go, anything in the 70% realm is pretty significant, says Dergarabedian. But movies that open with over $100 million are generally front-loaded. In some cases, the bigger they are, the harder they fall comes into play.

In other words, its second-weekend turnout of $32 million is not exactly encouraging this early into its theatrical run, but lets see where ticket sales end up by the time Quantumania leaves the big screen...

Disney Worlds struggling $5,000 Star Wars hotel slashes prices, cancels summer dates

The initial buzz that helped fill Disney coffers with galactic credits has turned into a concerning quiet in the halls of the Halcyon the Star Wars starship at the center of an immersive storytelling hotel experience.

Walt Disney Worlds highly hyped Star Wars hotel that debuted to months of sold out voyages has seen demand cool so dramatically that the Florida theme park giant has been forced to offer steep discounts on the pricey experience and cancel dates in the middle of summer.

The Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel at Disneys Hollywood Studios in Florida has begun offering 30% to 50% discounts to select customers on 3-day, 2-night experiences that cost $5,000 to $20,000...

..The Galactic Starcruiser began offering 30% discounts to loyal Disney Vacation Club members in November when hotel capacity dropped to as low as 25% on some dates, according to WDW News Today. The low turnout forced the Starcruiser to cut the second dinner seatings on some evenings, WDW News Today reported.

The low demand has brought concerns for the future of the experience, according to WDW NewsToday. As Master Yoda says, Difficult to see. Always in motion the future is.

In January, Disney canceled dates for Starcruiser stays in July, August and September and offered to rebook impacted guests on other voyages at 50% discounts, according to WDW Magic.

At the same time, Disney World rolled out discounts as steep as $700 on hotel stays at the Florida theme park resort before or after a Starcruiser voyage, according to WDW News Today.

In February, Disney began offering 50% discounts to current and retired cast members for stays on the Galactic Starcruiser on select dates from March through June, according to AllEars.

I literally had no idea Lightyear existed til either the weekend before or the day it released.

The first piece of marketing I saw for it was one of those movie standups/cutouts they put up in theaters, either the weekend before or the day of release (I went and saw it day one)

I'm fucking chronically online when I'm not at work and I totally missed every single marketing related to it.

Though I was busy during March/April/May so I missed when it would have been on cereal boxes lmao.

I just skimmed the synopsis for Amsterdam and why is it bad, how do you fuck up a period mystery comedy movie? After the amazing Knives Out I had hoped other companies would follow suit with actually good mystery movies again.
