Boat tournament. I'm going through all this blind so I still don't know whats coming......played against the bro in round 1 and bodied him, decided to play again tifa for round 2 and so she got pounded (thinking I should have played barret though since he was talking shit, lol. Not the pounding). Murked madame M for round 3, chucked chadley in the recycle bin for round 4, and played that lady from the bouncer for the finals match.

I swear I absolutely lost my shit when red 13 popped up, lmao. The moonwalk, the shuffling over to sit down with him pulling the other leg over to cross his legs, that whole segment was perfect. I remembered red 13 wore the shinra outfit in the OG game, but for some reason I thought the gag wasn't going to pop up for the remake....I should have known better.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y19N1Iqn_4Y

But yeah GG bozos. Red 13 almost got me in that match but I really bodied that chick.

Madame M is the worst I blown someone out so far.

The Switch is pretty much a 7.5 gen system. Switch 2 is a 8.5 gen system.
Drop the handheld, keep the joycons, upgrade the specs to current Gen. People are playing your systems because of the IPs not the latest gimmick you can think up Nintendo.
That would be the absolute worst thing nintendo can do since the portability hybrid idea is what lead them to being wildly successful on their home turf (have to remember that japanese gamers by and large prefer mobile and handheld gaming these days) and being extremely successful everywhere else, and when it comes to being a "console" there is still certain things nintendo really sucks at compared to both sony and microsoft. *Their online play set-up being the biggest one.*

I also have the PC, PS5, and Switch combo. The PS5 is starting to become redundant since pretty much all but 5 or so games on it are also on PC, and there's not even a split screen multiplayer benefit to it. Installing games and updates on PS5 also goes at a snail pace compared to PC.
What do you mean? There is games with a split-screen option (that the PC versions opts to not bother with at times) still coming out here and there. Like said tiny tina's wonderland game, and...well, fortnite (splitscreen supported on the playstation and xbox, not for mobile, switch, and PC) for example.

There is rumors that Dragon Ball Sparking Zero might not have local multiplayer thanks to Microsoft and Sony.

https://gamerant.com/dragon-ball-sparking-zero-no-splitscreen-multiplayer-rumor/

It isn't official at the moment, so maybe it isn't true.
Yeah, I really don't buy this one at all. One of the biggest releases of last year baldur's gate 3 had split-screen, so if sony and microsoft was trying to interfere and prevent these devs from putting split-screen in the game just to sell more consoles and subscriptions then they definitely would have tried to pull it with baldur's gate 3 first.

When devs opt to make their games online only and to get rid of things like LAN, they do it because they want to do it, like with activision-blizz and diablo 3 compared to diablo 4 and diablo 2 remake. There is nothing stopping them for continuing to do their local thing like with gearbox and borderlands 3+the more recent tiny tina spin-off game.

If this rumor is actually true then the dudes they interviewed obviously is not trying to say anything to put heat on their bosses at bandai-namco and they know damn well gamers will kick up a storm on social media when influencers spread the world which could effect day 1 sales/pre-orders, so they are going to just shift the blame to sony and microsoft instead. (And honestly, its most likely going to work lol).

These days not really. Console gamers dealt with it from the PS1, saturn and N64's 3D games up until the PS4, xbox one, wii u.......and the switch because thats just how things were, but the PS5 and xbox series x finally gave us the option to prefer performance in the system settings. Let each person decide if they want to lower resolution, reduce npcs walking around etc. and cut off shadows for better performance. Final fantasy 7 rebirth's "fuzzy" perfomance mode is fine to me since my really good TV helps deal with the picture....I would have been annoyed forced into 30fps with that one.

Also for crying out loud stop forcing ray-tracing on us....Gotham knights, final fantasy 16 (which i believe they eventually patched it to where you can cut it off thankfully), and that plague tale game weren't no better for it.

Pretty much is always the case, lol.

I have a desktop PC (and a steam deck) but I still prefer to game on consoles. The PC is mainly used for gaming purposes to play smaller indie games that isn't available on consoles yet (stuff like the indie horror game them and us or the warioland-like pizza tower), or in river city ransom underground's case never will be, to play around with mods (which isn't all too often for me nowadays), or if I am retro gaming via emulators.

The smaller game/indie game and retro gaming thing can easily be done with just a steamdeck.

Wtf, did I wake up in a different universe? Since when was the N64 and GC considered duds.
The nintendo 64 actually is a dud if we are going by sales. In japan it had it's ass kicked badly by the sega saturn (via all those saturn games that did not get to be localized. Thanks bernie stolar), which in turn got trashed by the PS1. With how huge nintendo was over there with the famicom and super famicom, it was seen as extremely humbling/pretty bad. In europe nintendo's sales for the NES and SNES never was that all that high, and the N64 either barely sold better or sold worse than those. (EU peeps were too busy playing the master system, mega drive, the commodore 64, and the PS1 lol). *It also did not help that the N64 launched pretty late in the UK, and at a way higher price than everything else. Sony already had a comfy foothold over there and at a way cheaper price by the 64's EU launch.*

https://www.resetera.com/threads/remember-how-badly-nintendo-used-to-handle-the-uk-europe.81740/

North america straight up carried the 64 with the bit of success it had.

As far as the gamecube goes, the og xbox despite being the new kid on the block managed to outsell the gamecube barely.

GameCube was the most powerful console of its gen but sold the least, which is why Nintendo never released a straightforward powerful console again and started making weaker consoles with gimmicks attached
Nah, the og xbox was a bit more capable than the gamecube. The rule of thumb when it came to 3rd party ports of the era was the xbox's version would be on top, with the gamecube's in the middle. The PS2's sometimes were flat out ass depending on the game. (Return to castle wolfenstein. This game supported full campaign co-op and had 16 player online multiplayer for the xbox version. The PS2 version could only support the campaign. No co-op, and no online). There was very few exceptions to that.

To be honest the only one I can remember off the top of my head being in the gamecube's favor was phantasy star online episode 1 and 2. That port was specifically designed for the cube', and so the gamecube version had it's own unique special effects that did not show up on the xbox port of the game, not even in the later PC port with PSO blue burst. (the wavy effect that you could see on telepipes, when you use high level fire spells, and on high level megid).

Got to give japan props on this one....they got me to read a manga about creating a manga in bakuman. Its got good art, goofy bad romances, but dammit it was entertaining. Well the one arc was a little weak, but at least it didn't last forever. I also really got into act-age, but that one got canned because the writer was a creep, but yeah....good manga about a girl acting the hell out of everyone.

When it comes to comics I like stuff like empowered. Just a bit of a wait for new ones to come out.

Didn't Hi fi rush do fairly well? I feel like they shut down the studio when they were getting more and more brand recognition. That's dumb. Some franchises like Persona used to be niche and it sells tons of copies now
Yep we actually have a good deal of video game franchises throughout gaming history that managed to succeed after years of either legit bad sales, or just years of so-so/average sales. All it takes most of the time is for the IP holder to just not give up and possibly try again. Try harder with advertising, or trying out new strategies like letting social media influencors hype a game for you if it actually is a good game.

It always did pretty good in japan, but I bet a ton of younger gamers just do not know or remember just how small time IPs like yakuza, persona, fire emblem (hell we didn't even get a single one of these until marth and roy showing up in melee (who were stupid close to getting cut for all versions of the game out of japan) and their popularity with their character usage caused people to wonder about the game series they came from) or the big one final fantasy used to be. Hi-fi rush with it's one single game had a nice start all things considered, but nah its not some kinda' fortnite success right out the gate it ain't worth keeping around, =/ Just mad short-sighted/want that blockbuster success NOW instead of leaving that sucker in the pressure cooker for maximum tenderness, lol.

*Actually kind of pisses me off how bandai-namco treats the tales of series. This series actually had a few moments where it could have popped off (post symphonia, post vesperia, xillia 1's surprisingly good sales when it got localized, arise's success) outside of japan but with each moment of surprisingly good sales bandai-namco just sort of.....picks their noses and do nothing. No new ports, no quick collections, not a damn thing.

Better believe when final fantasy 7 blew up on the PS1 square was quick to make a ton of ports, small collections like the anthology and origins PS1 release, actually set up a EU branch so they can start getting final fantasy and other squaresoft games like with north america period, made a damn movie (which admittedly failed, but hey its the thought that counts lol) etc. Atlus/sega was quick to push with persona and yakuza when they finally popped off, nintendo does the same with fire emblem and xenoblade, but here is bandai-namco.......being bamco. Just had to rant real quick, lol.*

Of course one of the companies pushing a bigger budget game with a more unique art style and gameplay system gets the boot. It always sucks when the more creative games like this don't sell enough for the suits on top. (I bet its one of those square-enix with tomb raider 2013 kind of things where the game still did well enough on steam at least, but it just wasn't enough for what the execs and shareholders wanted).

*I'm actually really hoping the hi-fi rush gets a good bit of sales once that physical from limited run games drop.*

Yeah I was avoiding it at first because I was trying to speed through the game and didn't need a dozen plus hour distraction in the form of a card game.

I was surprised how kinda easy it was though. Minor adjustments aside, once I had a deck focused around boosts I was able to beat most opponents within a few hands and that was mostly because of my initial hand/draws not giving me enough to claim opponent territory well.
Yeah queen's blood clicked fast. (I understood how to play queen's blood faster than I did with the version of fort condor in yuffie's DLC for remake). The general winning strategy def seems to be starting your hand off with 2 of your better 1 pawn cards, 2 of your better 2 pawn cards, and 1 of your strongest 3 pawn cards. Make sure them suckers synergize and power up one another with their special abilities, and then bum-rush your opponent's side of the queen's blood board to take their spots from them. Then double back to your own side to finish them off. Hasn't failed me yet, lol.

Queen's blood is probably my favorite card game spin-off I ever played in a rpg, slightly ahead of witcher 3's card game. Definitely like it way more than the one they came up for in FF9.

To be honest with you, I think there is a good bit of us beat'em up fans that would consider double dragon 1 better on the NES compared to it's arcade version. While it lacks the co-op, the learning new moves as you got exp was pretty entertaining. All we were doin' in the arcade version of part 1 since the AI was so busted was elbowing everything to death anyway.

Double dragon 2 could go either way, but my family did play the hell out of the NES port, and the extra levels was fun (who all remembers wiping out those continues on the stage with the gears before we got the hang of jumping, lol). Double dragon 3 was straight up garbage in the arcade, and while the NES version also was pretty jank you can at least say it was better than the arcade's pure trash.

Yeah it really was one of those rare beat'em ups in the late 80s/early 90s that had better home versions.

Look, if they indicated your performance (like they fucking did in Remake) on each button, it'd been so much easier to have a fucking clue how well you did.
The only thing that really matters is the max combo, how many times you got great and good timed button presses compared to bad ones (notified with the ding sound when you get great ones) and you get extra points playing on the 3 star/hardest parade formations. Did the combo break? The player fucked up. More button presses via 3 star formation difficulty+the combo is high+a lot of great button presses=they doing good. My combo broke a few times in the final section means I was messing up. That is all you really need to know here.

I'm actually curious about that, if the news lady can just roast you for sucking lol.

What the game does not really tell you is that the more stars on the parade formation difficulty thingy is actually a good thing. (Compared to assuming since 1 star is easiest that means you should easily get all those points/ratings. You get less points overall meaning you have to be absolutely flawless, compared to playing with more stars, which=more button combinations, but that also=way more leniency for screwin' up).

I only restarted the first time halfway through because I forgot you can edit the parade formation, but on my second attempt I fumbled my way to victory/muh trophy.

When I first seen this commander lady, that got me to thinking if she is elena's older sister. I remember that japan only phone game before crisis awhile back and how one of the turk player characters was elena's older sister. They definitely look alike in rebirth.

Yeah, its slow, but the hits were meaty, lol. Like POW. Its kind of why my household also like the combatribes despite this game also being pretty slow with the 3 player characters being chonker cyborg dudes.

It is a shame super double dragon got such a weird release. I think both the localized version actually existed first and then they cleaned up a few things for the japanese release. It was just weird.

But yeah the SNES had much better beat'em ups to get into. Battletoads and double dragons, brawl brothers (damn shame this is another series where it's 3rd game just got shit on for it's localization), final fight 3 and whatnot.

When it comes to these modern beat'em up revivals imo double dragon got kinda' screwed, lol. Double dragon gaiden is basically a clone of that indie dev's own previous beat'em up roguelike game, and wayforward's river city girls 1 and 2 is way, way better in comparison.

Phantasy star online episode 1 and 2. My fav video game of all time.

I played a lot of the xbox version too and a good bit of blue burst on the PC, but the gamecube version stands out as the one I played the most, met all the online friends that became real life ones (and still talk to them today), and it has it's own graphical effects that no other version of PSO managed to replicate, including the PC's blue burst.

(The heat wavy-like effects that you can see on things like the telepipe, high level megid, and the foie spells on the cube' version).

All of them is so good, but 2/fukai mori is always going to be the greatest.

My fondest early 2000s memories is recently graduating from highschool (in 2001) and really getting into my night owl habits since no more getting up at like 6:30 am for me. My family owned this real tiny TV that we used to set in the kitchen counter, and the other side of the counter was the area where the family PC+modem and a 40 inch TV was at. After my parents took it down for the night at around 11:00 pm or so, It'd take my gamecube over to that counter, and plug it up to that smaller TV on the kitchen counter. Then I'd take the ethernet cord out of the PC and plug it up to my gamecube.

From there, I'm chilling with the homies on phantasy star online episode 1 and 2 all night long and have the bigger TV playing adult swim. Inuyasha coming on and ending with it's slapping openings and endings, in particular the 2nd one will always represent those awesome times of me just no lifing PSO, and when I got a OG xbox return to castle wolfenstein, capcom vs snk 2 EO, PSO episode 1 and 2 again thanks to it's xbox port, playing that janky guilty gear x2 reload port on the xbox (this game just had built-in delay when played online, lol), unreal championship 2, and eventually resident evil outbreak files 1 n' 2 and champions of norrath on the PS2, and halo 2 on the box.

Good times man.

is the joke here that we don't have any ps5 games to say and can only name older games?
When it comes to couch co-op you have to take where you can get it, and this is definitely one area where its going to be more barren on PCs compared to on consoles. With the PS5 being able to play PS4 games you are going to get a couch co-op list full of PS4 games.

With that said river city girls 1 and 2 for sure, borderlands series (all of them support couch co-op), tiny tina's wonderland borderlands spin-off, diablo 3, if you are in the mood to play a game inspired by oldschool castlevania 3 then bloodstained curse of the moon 2 (no seriously, this one supports couch co-op, lol), tales of symphonia, tales of vesperia definitive edition, dynasty warriors 8 xtreme legends complete (most warriors titles really. One piece pirate warriors 3 and 4, samurai warriors, etc.), mercenary kings, zombies ate my neighbors and ghoul control collection, new joe & mac caveman ninja, disney afternoon collection (don't underestimate co-op chip and dale rescue rangers. Fun stuff), it takes two and a way out (definitely recommend both of these), serious sam collection.

I just was going through my games list so there is a good bit more if you interested.

TopicHow is Shin Megami Tensei not more popular

To make this series more popular and thus more monies, we must go back in a alternate video game history....a "coulda', shoulda'" kind of video game history.

Nothing that can be done to convince nintendo's north american brand of the era to localize all this demonic craziness, so what should of happened was a lot of get togethers with sega of america. Convince them that making a localized genesis port would be a totally awesome idea, and it is a rpg for cooler, older more teenage kids. Radical.

There was already a weird sega cd version of shin megami tensei 1, so both that and a new genesis version can be brought over. Lessee.....cover up those stray nipples!

Mara can get one of those cute hats like the one they gave him for that chinese persona 5 mobile game. Also a reduction of the sac. Its now a pickle on wheels!

"Shin megami tensei" is a mouthful of foreign malarkey. Lets name it something more american......"apocalypse", "Ragnarok", "New genesis"......on the genesis. Hell yeah.

Do what I just said, and it should have been more monies=more problems for atlus and sega EZ.

TopicITT: We design the most hellish region possible in a game
Mad-Dogg
05/03/24 5:52:10 PM

Breath of fire 3's desert of death is a pretty good base to use, so lets make this more shitty.

No map of course. Follow this one star in the sky and hope for the best.

This area requires a certain party. (Think like how in tales of xillia 2 you had to use a certain group of characters in the main story missions). The required group is the shittiest members of the party. No healers of course......well, you got this one hybrid's character's weaker area of effect heal.....better make this work, lol.

There is poison areas everywhere.

There is super poison (think elden ring's rot) everywhere also.....the kind that cannot be cured with your standard items and status spells, this status effect severely cripples your stats and takes huge chunks of HP every 3 steps or so. This can only be cured using extremely hard to come by item....this item cannot be bought and has like a 5 percent drop rate from a mob that appears like 1 out of 60 random encounters.

Yeah, there is random encounters that is overtuned breath of fire 2 SNES style.

This game has weird unity engine shitty load times where even the PS5 and PC using NVMe SSDs is taking like 5 seconds to load into random battles, and like over a minute if you die and need to reload at the last town.

Also there is no quick-saves and save points in this area....the last time you could have saved was back in this town that is about a 15 minute walk to this region.

This area also has bullshit shin megami tensei type transportation tiles. Hopefully you remember the ones that will specifically dump you right at the end of a super poison tunnel.

Even though there is no in-game map, the area is designed like this:
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/forum/2/20c43f53.jpg

Also you have to escort a dog through it.......better stay on top of healing this dog with those aoe heals from that hybrid character, lol.

Final fantasy since I am a bit more a classic jrpg fan compared to a strategy jrpg one. *It also bothers me that we are still missing a decent chunk of non localized fire emblem games. Similar to the tales of series in that regard*.

Still like both series though.

Ah man, if I had to pick 2 games where me and my friends+brother legitimately expected them to be good and thus we pre-ordered was resident evil operation raccoon city and left alive.

Operation raccoon city for the concept of you and your buddies playing a co-op rainbow six-like squad based game where each character brings something to the table and womg you kill the resident evil heroes!!,l. Suped for left alive because my brain just assumed it would be this cool-aas action/stealth based 3rd person game with 3 playable characters thus 3 separate stories set in the front mission universe, and occasionally hoping in and out of wanzers would be similar to that old SNES game metal warriors. Also the box art is drawn by the metal gear solid guy so the game has to be awesome right!?

....Jesus christ I got burned so bad by these im still missing the money spent years later. lol

I think it was downloading a fake anime episode of either outlaw star or gundam wing off kazaa.

I remember trying to play the fake episode only to find out it was a executable file that all kinds of fucked up my PC. Turned my desktop to this ugly green and yellow theme with a skull and nuclear symbol as the wallpaper. Almost all of my programs and such deleted or hidden away to only show links to buy this virus scan and remover.

Took me like 5 days of messing with my PC on and off before I got it all straightened out. I had to hop on my dad's PC, do a ton of searching to find out what exactly this shit that was infecting my PC was, learn how to use torrents just so I can download bootleg retail versions of these specific malware/trojan etc. removers I needed, download a bootleg windows XP because lord knows what happened to the one that came with my PC, burn all of these to blank CDs so I can run them off safe mode on my PC and whatnot.

Its usually something on gamefaqs thats for sure, lol. I am pretty sure I got blocked by someone who got upset (which ironically enough I was supposed to be the one emotionally invested about the sales) in that final fantasy 7 rebirth sales topic on this board like 2'wish weeks ago or something like that.

Around when star ocean 2 R got announced there was this topic on the xbox series s/x boards where some dude was throwing a hissy fit about the game not having a xbox version, and according to him the reason was because sony paid to keep the game off the xbox. Me:...."this makes absolutely no sense. What reason could sony possibly have to spend money to keep whats basically flashy remaster with a few remake elements of this old a bit niche jrpg away from the xbox, a console that is all but dead in japan and does not have a huge jrpg gaming community on the console? Also this is a game that is also releasing on the switch and the PC day 1, so it isn't like this is a exclusive game or a paid exclusivity time period type of deal".

Dude was mad/starting a argument and 100 percent convinced sony paid for star ocean 2 r to not be on the xbox. (Final fantasy 7 remake was brought up as an example, but this also is nowhere near equivalent to star ocean 2 R's situation since FF7 remake right from the beginning was known to be a behind the scenes sony funded/playstation exclusive with a PC port incoming. That and FF7 specifically is just a way bigger name that in their eyes was actually worth paying for).

That whole thing was just fucking stupid, and I am pretty sure the topic is still archived and available to read.

*I'm also assuming the user is still sore about it since they attempted to pick a argument out of me on the stellar blade board but the whole thing just came off as meh*

Also the character yamato from one piece is a whole can of worms that gets pretty heated discussions on both this website and reddit.

There is a bit of people who are genuinely upset that remake/rebirth does not play out like a more standard action game similar to devil may cry/god of war etc. where you can just stick to using standard square attacks, occasionally busting out a triple slash or focus strike, and only using cloud.

I love how the devs made it to where you are constantly swapping between your 3 members (the person you control always getting aggro encourages the player to swap more) to build pressure, increase the stagger, make the stagger last as long and to increase your damage multiplier, and how every move a character has fills a specific purpose. The game is still a classic rpg/final fantasy game utilizing your ATB bar actions at the right time, but nah.....there really is people out there that upset that the game does not play like the action game they want it to be.

Not even kidding when I say FF7 remake/rebirth's battle system combined with how materia works (more so when you get to hard difficulty, even though I am having a lot of fun on the initial rebirth playthrough on dynamic mode) in these games is the most fun I ever had playing a final fantasy game.
