He's not normalizing anything. If you listen to the interview, he was just there to watch because his friend told him that they were shooting a Denzel movie there. The director put him in as an extra, on a whim. He didn't have any sort of agreement beforehand to be in the movie.

For most extra work, you do get paid for a day of shooting, but it's usually low pay. That part is already normalized. People do it hoping for their big break.

Ok, I know extras are paid low amounts and I already knew he was an extra, meaning he's still saying it was worth it to get paid nothing, whereas being an extra still should have gotten him paid something.

As for them not having a contract beforehand, I'm sure they could have made one after the fact and paid him for time spent in the film.

And you can see that just with these results. 100K came out to vote uncommitted. Which is five times the average.

It's 3% higher than Obama dealt with in 2012. Yeah it's more numbers total, however a lot more people came out than normally do.

Ultimately, Biden won MI by 155k and 100k is less than that so doesn't realistically threaten his chances of winning the state, especially since the Trump-Haley results are far more worrisome for him. I hope that Biden does listen to them and he has been, as recent reporting on meetings with Arab/Muslim leaders has shown shortly before he committed to working on a ceasefire.

I can be onboard with people taking the opportunity without being paid for no-name films that aren't expected to go anywhere, however they get their chance to act. However nobody in a movie starring Denzel Washington should be going unpaid. That's not being made by some dude in the woods with a handheld camera.

Normalizing the practice for productions that should be able to pay the actors just encourages it happening more in the future.

It is, but also in part due to the fact that Thomas's wife was literally a part of the insurrection and he should be forbidden from dealing with any case that is January 6th related.

Yep. These are the most important cases this court will ever have to determine and they are treating it like the most flippant ordeal ever. I don't even know if the liberal judges are protesting the stall tactics, because I don't ever see any dissent from news articles and I imagine they're at least allowed to air their frustration.

There's nothing that terrifies me more than on election night we have another Bush vs Gore scenario and the supreme court moves lighting quick to hand the victory over to Trump just like back then because it's all about that money and power.

I actually heard a former career federal prosecutor who makes frequent media appearances (Glenn Kirschner is his name) regarding the law actually bring up how fast they handed the election to Bush back in 2000 and shows that they intentionally want to drag this out as long as they can for Trump, if it was something they actually wanted to get done quickly then it would be.

He's been using money from the RNC and donors to cover his legal bills. As this process has dragged on he cleaned out the RNC coffers, the GOP apparatus is salty over it, and his individual donors are slowing down.

That article is trying really hard to make it seem like people just want to be able to murder migrants but, extending your right of protection from just inside your home to all of your property doesn't really seem like that big of a leap. It will of course cause a shitload of headaches over justifiable reaction and probably more deaths but really just seems like basic "muh 2a!" type stuff. On paper it's fine, but that rarely stands up in the real world.

You really don't see a difference between a personal dwelling, which houses the person, families, valuables, etc. and open land, which while yes owned, could be miles from the dwelling itself as the same sort of justified "self-defense" that involves killing another?

This. I don't think this SCOTUS majority would rule in favor of Trump's immunity, but they are clearly causing unnecessary delay to benefit Trump.

It's possible they officially establish that President's have immunity while conducting legitimate acts in the name of the office, which if so will be the real test of their integrity (not holding my breath) as Trump has claimed that him trying to steal the election was part of his official duties.

There's plenty of wealthy Americans bankrolling Trump who could have "donated" to them that already have a history of donating to them. This is a good point that I've seen others brought up. Allegedly Kemp & Raffesburger were legitimately pissed that Trump wanted them to steal the election for him. They still went on to disenfranchise voters for future elections because that's what Republicans do and they've been losing the state on a national level.

But also, if he didn't pardon him, he'd get death threats, and I doubt Kemp is a brave person.

It's highly unlikely a state court would continue prosecuting a sitting POTUS. It would take nerves of steel. The GA case is moving slowest and is the least likely to start before the election. Also I think Kemp can't pardon Trump.

This is where I'm at. I don't think this is something that the Court would want to not thoroughly address. I'd love to say "dismantle" instead of "address," but an affirmance is not carved in stone despite all historical traditions indicating otherwise.

The problem with this is Smith already sent his arguments against it to them weeks if not a month ago and the USSC intentionally put the case on hold so that 2 months from now they'll start deliberations on the case. Smith tried to save time in case they did take it up and they faxed him back a middle finger.

They're clearly stalling for Trump's benefit as the new timelines would likely place the trial too close to the election for DOJ's comfort, when if not for their fuckery it would have been happening in summer.

They could have already been hearing this case 3 weeks ago, they took their time to respond AND THEN added a 2 month wait to proceed.

I've also been hearing people of the legal world saying it indicates they want to agree and disagree with some of his argument as they didn't just wholly dismiss it.

The theory I've heard behind this is that it's a stalling tactic, and that they don't expect this to actually work. But it may be delayed long enough for the election to pass and Trump potentially being able to pardon himself if he wins.

More realistically, by the time they finish deliberating it will be too close to the election for the DOJ's comfort to proceed before the election. Initially the planned trial would be happening in the summer, this puts the timeline closer to Aug-Oct.

Donald Trumps federal trial for seeking to subvert the 2020 election is likely to remain on hold for several more months while the Supreme Court takes up his argument that he is immune from prosecution for actions he took while president.

In a one-page order Wednesday, the court set an expedited schedule to hear the immunity issue, with oral arguments to be set during the week of April 22. In the meantime, proceedings in the trial court will remain frozen.

There was no noted dissent or other explanation of the high courts action.

If the court rules on the matter quickly after the arguments and rejects Trumps immunity claim, it may permit a trial on the election-related charges to occur later this summer or fall.

But the courts decision to keep the pretrial proceedings frozen is a blow to special counsel Jack Smiths effort to bring Trump to trial this year. Smith has charged Trump with four felonies stemming from his bid to subvert the 2020 presidential election.

Trump claims that, as a former president, he enjoys broad immunity from criminal prosecution for acts taken while in office. Lower courts have rejected that claim, but proceedings in the trial court have been paused for more than two months while Trump has litigated the novel immunity question.

In Wednesdays order, the Supreme Court granted Trumps emergency request to maintain that pause while the justices hear Trumps immunity appeal.

If they ultimately rule that Trump has immunity, the charges will be thrown out. If they deny the immunity bid by the end of their term in June, it may still be possible for the trial judge overseeing the case, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, to schedule a trial to begin in late summer or fall.
The timing of the justices eventual ruling could be critical since Chutkan has vowed to give Trump roughly three additional months to prepare for trial if the case is returned to her courtroom.

That hypothetical schedule would guarantee that much of Trumps general election calendar is consumed by his mandatory presence in the courtroom, perhaps overlapping with the Republican National Convention or even Election Day itself.

The decision by the justices also places extra significance on the impending decision by U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon regarding the schedule of Trumps other federal criminal trial for hoarding classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago estate. Cannon is expected to reconfigure the timeline of that trial, currently set for May 20, after a day-long hearing on Friday.

Chutkan had originally intended to begin the election-subversion trial on March 4, but she nixed that start date due to the delays caused by Trumps immunity claim. The trial, if it happens, is expected to last several months.

Its the second case this term that the justices have agreed to take on an emergency basis at Trumps request.

Earlier this month, they heard arguments on Trumps effort to overturn a Colorado Supreme Court decision that he is disqualified from the ballot there as an insurrectionist due to his role in fomenting the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021. The justices seemed skeptical of the Colorado courts decision but have yet to issue a ruling on the question.

In addition to his two federal criminal cases, Trump is facing state criminal charges in New York and Georgia.

Trump is set to go on trial March 25 in the New York case, over claims Trump falsified business records to cover up payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to women claiming sexual encounters with him.

No trial date has been set in the Georgia case, where Trump is one of 15 defendants charged in a racketeering conspiracy to interfere with the results of the 2020 presidential election in that state. Trump has pleaded not guilty in all the cases.

And they're not allowing the case to proceed until their ruling. Jack Smith had already sent the prosecutor's arguments to the Judges weeks ago in the idea of saving time on the issue since they'd already know where they want to fall, and they took that suggestion and thought "nah, how long can we stretch this out".

Ridiculous that they'd do blatantly help Trump run out the clock as a trial date would likely be too close to November and the DOJ will most likely not want to have a trial so close to the election.

Biden winning by overwhelming numbers and uncommitted getting double-digit support. Just as many of us here expected. Truth be told though, I was expecting uncommitted to get at least 20% or 30% of the votes due to how vocal their campaign had been online.

They ultimately didn't even get enough to override his 2020 victory.
