Mitch was very effective at maximizing Republicanss chances of achieving their goals. This will hurt the GOP.

Just so we're clear, the GOP Senate is about to be as big of a shit show as the GOP House.

McConnell fucking sucks ass, but he at least knew how to govern and politic. As we see with the current Republican House, they do not know how to govern nor understand politics.

Republicans will try to brute force every facet of the government now, and there will never be another true bipartisan bill passed again.

I've been ready for him to go for years, however not looking forward to who comes next cause they'll almost assuredly be far worse.

Rick Scott's name has been thrown around, the guy whose company was responsible for the largest Medicare fraud in the nation, as just a starter to why he's awful.

So, yeah, there's that.

Cruz and Scott vying for the title is a match I want to ignore totally but hear a few soundbytes every few days.

None of them has his experience or acumen to conduct the evil he did. The man was a laser scalpel compared to the crude nerf bats that are maga.

Now, some of the loyalists Mitch put in the judiciary are just as dangerous or more, but for different reasons.

No one in the legislature will be able to copy his success though.

Senate Majority Leader Tuberville is what we're likely getting.

Someone like Hawley or Johnson is who I see throwing their hat into the ring.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that there's no one actually competent enough in the Senate for the GOP to actually "replace" him.

I was expecting Hawley to make a push for more power, but I hadn't considered Johnson. That corrupt piece or shit should be a co-conspirator in Smith's January 6 case, not the Senate Minority Leader.

Well they can't replace him right now. According to Mitch, it's an election year.

Yeah, keep fucking dreaming.

Unlikely, but not impossible. A Democrat won reelection in the governor's race last year. If Beshear decides to step out a year early and run for Senate, he could get it.

I actually live in Kentucky.

The thing is, Mitch has had several proteges over the years that always underperformed. The first one, Jim Bunning, was older than Mitch, and barely won reelection in 2004 (he would have lost if Kentucky Democratic legislators weren't idiots and Republicans-Lite). He retired after that term was up.

Mitch's second disciple was a fresh-faced young good-looking man with no scandals named Trey Grayson. He had actually been a Democrat before he switched parties and turned to the Dark Side. After that, he and McConnell were thick as thieves. He was the former Secretary of State of Kentucky and ran for Bunning's seat. He lost the Republican primary to upstart Rand Paul. He then went off to Massachusetts to work for some lobbying firm.

His most recent protege is Daniel Cameron. Cameron was the Kentucky Attorney General who is largely responsible for the response (or lack thereof) in the Breonna Taylor case, a young black woman shot in her sleep by cops, who were in the wrong house. Daniel Cameron is also black. He ran against Beshear last year for governor and lost. I don't know what he's doing now, but if he hasn't run off to New England too, he might want to throw his hat in the ring for Mitch's seat in 2026.
