do you really need a mt rushmore for a single game? feels like that kinda takes away from the concept since what makes it cool is capturing stuff from sifferent sources and eras

i recognize there's lots of stuff good about 2-2 but it also feels clearly like a case i "don't like" as much. the lack of humor, the tedium in defending maya, franziska, hotti, morgan, the heavy involvement of channeling...

love pearly though and the magatama does make for a cool way to beef up investigations (though getting it wrong sucks and the music is a pretty bad track). ini is also great.

shamspeare is my sole reason for this case being like a top whatever for the series for me. there are some characters whose animations get tedious but these cracked me up every time

annoyed that 4 isn't on a streaming service i have

general thoughts on ranking? i think i loosely have 2 > 1 > 3. 2 has better action scenes than 1 and less bloat than 3. halle berry's dialogue was probably the most painful part probably.

i just tried ranking all 54 (!) of these cases and it's becoming really hard to do so, especially for the least memorable ones like the layton guys. but it's also hard to measure scope vs execution vs ambition in these. 1-3 has less overall content than a lot of later cases but i'd argue it soars with what it has. 1-1 does that too but it's a little too stripped of content, but 1-3 has tons of good stuff (even while admittedly the investigation's sequencing can get you stuck for no reason)

i don't suffer from this one. rock is not that good a defensive type. it's the combination of being the first gym before you have a lot of good water moves, the combo with ground for electric resistance, and high defense.

Always really weird when they have a type that super-effects another, but doesn't resist it when being attacked back.

best is gen 1 bug/poison being super-effective against one another, or ghosts/dragons being super vs themselves

thematically it totally makes sense that ice is fragile!

think to me the jury system feels a little silly, drawn out, and contrived... but it's so well written (and directed, visually/sound-wise) that i love them anyway

G1-5 has a nice sense of confrontation with gregson but the cat flap stuff is so bad. i don't remember the details but even hearing it described is a huge drag!

onward and upward - sounds like you might have liked GAA1 more than some did. based on your commentary and musing, i'm hoping you love G2-1

I just thought the game would have some kind of commentary to make on the subject. Given how intrinsic the anti-Japanese racism is as a theme, and how they absolutely do not shy away from that, I didn't expect them to then pretty much ignore the misogyny. I'm judging too early, I know, that's just where I am right now.

i don't know much about japan's actually society but based on anime targeted to similar demos as AA, i don't think they're generally too forward-thinking in terms of women's POVs in general

so my instinct was SMB1/3/world/64 and my biggest doubt there was whether to remove 3/world for another entry. fairly surprised to see that mario kart qualifies.

it's definitely disappointing they keep going with "new spunky girl" every time, but susato is probably the best of the lot outside of maya as the original. she develops more uniquely than trucy/kay/rayfa imo.

agreed on your take on naruhodo too. he's my favorite protagonist of the series, though it feels almost unfair to rank him when he inhabits so much realer of a world than the others.
