| Topic | Which huge movie sequel trilogy was worse, star wars or jurassic world? |
| CassandraCain 06/20/24 10:08:42 PM #92 | I think they should have just let Abrams and Johnson work on separate trilogies. Best of both worlds.
If TLJ cut out the Finn/Rose sidequest it would have been mostly a perfect movie. Shoulda been Finn and Poe going off on an adventure but Disney was scared to pair them up with all the talk of them being gay... Which is ridiculous. And Rian did the best he could to carry on from the impossible to answer questions, like WHY was Luke secluding himself and abandoning his friends? Abrams was the one who came up with that, not Rian. He had to do something with it and I don't see any other answer being good. Luke in TLJ was great, Hamill's best live action performance. Ultimately all the legacy characters should have come together in Ep 7 then passed the torch to the new characters for the following films. We could fill up a whole topic on ideas for the sequels that would be better than we got though. --- I don't kill... but I don't lose either. |
| Topic | Which huge movie sequel trilogy was worse, star wars or jurassic world? |
| CassandraCain 06/20/24 5:31:01 PM #78 | Well yeah that too, I believe the OT still had a different director for each movie (overseen by GL) which was a factor in Disney thinking they could do the same. They planned to have a new director for each of the sequel films, but figured instead of one person with a singular vision to oversee everything, just let a bunch of people throw ideas at the wall and mash em together.
I could go on about this trainwreck and how it's so utterly baffling that Disney thought they could make this work without any thorough plan. The level of incompetence and mismanagement is infuriating. SaveEstelle posted... As the years roll on by, I'm beginning to realize that I just... want them to try again a second time with Episodes VII through IX. I really just... want them to try again. It just still blows my mind that they went into a new SW trilogy without any sort of plan or outline. I will never get over that. They probably thought that since the OT was made without a plan they could do the same. The problem is the internet exists nowadays when it didn't back then. They either should have had a plan from the outset or ignored all of the reactions on reddit and stuck with some kind of throughline. Like seriously they got terrified after seeing all the complaints about TLJ and tried to retcon it in the final movie. Absolute cowardice. And a complete fuck you to the other half of the fanbase who liked TLJ. Honestly they should have just let Abrams do the whole trilogy. He's the one who set up a bunch of loose questions in TFA with the assumption he wouldn't have to answer any of them. --- I don't kill... but I don't lose either. |

I relied on mimic tear heavily on my first playthrough, and that was before the nerf. I still use him sometimes, mainly on Elden Beast and Malenia. Still haven't bashed my head against her enough yet, even though she's thematically my favorite boss. Also Maliketh is awesome. I understand the contempt though, I had issues with the late game bosses initially as well. I've played the game a ton more by now and have grown to appreciate all of them greatly, since I'm more familiar with their attack patterns. the first book feels a bit derivative of LOTR Maybe that's why I have struggled getting into WoT, I don't much care for Lord of the Rings for some reason. I think because it's the baseline of high fantasy and has all the regular tropes you'd expect. I love it for all the inspiration it's given to so many authors, but nowadays it's just sorta... boring I guess. And that's how it feels reading the first book for Wheel of Time. I think I'll just have to try and speed read it until it starts grabbing me. Yeah that's what I'll do, it feels shameful to not read such a highly praised and influential series. However I could still use more easily digestible books. Currently reading the second Xanth book and it's alright, but certain aspects are very dissatisfying which is what drove me to make this topic. Wanted something better. Just remembered that I did read through the Mage Errant series within the last few years, and it was an enjoyable if sometimes messy ride. What I enjoyed most about it was the creative world building, not as dense as Sando's, but every location and power was imaginative. Played well with established tropes, with neat little spins making them feel fresh. --- I don't kill... but I don't lose either. |

Maybe try my "The Kaladin Chapters Only" Already done that once or twice, he's my favorite character so it was natural. Wheel of Time is another suggestion that's always brought up. It's also a difficult series to get into though, so that along with Malazan is on the back burner. I have tried to force myself to get into WoT on a few occasions now and it just hasn't yielded positive results so far. I know I just gotta push through and I'll love it, one day... I have a real tough time with the beginning of any story, even the Way of Kings was a challenge at first, took me a year to finally get through it -- although the last quarter went a lot faster since that's when it got super intriguing. | CassandraCain 04/16/24 1:27:22 PM #1 | I'm talking pure fantasy with a good magic system. Nothing that takes place in the real world, I need a completely made up world (or worlds) where magic is a constant presence in every day life for the characters.
Also needs to be in third person, preferably limited. I know that's very particular but it's somehow the only way I can feel immersed? First person narrative takes me out of the story, I'm weird. On another note I think Bloodborne has the best replayability, not in terms of how many hours you'll get out of it, but the quality of it all. For instance I have more hours in Elden Ring but I don't feel like I have actually played that game as thoroughly since a ton of those hours are just traveling around the gigantic world. Bloodborne just seems more focused than the other Souls games (aside from Sekiro which is the most focused) with the trick weapons all being so intriguing and even capable of making it feel like a new game depending on which you choose. Very weak dungeon let alone final dungeon, then I really hated the final battle sequence too, like it pissed me off so much, every phase of that fight and being forced to fight with team members that didnt have the top tier materia so it was a struggle I really didn't like that aspect of the final battle, only three characters can really be set up with optimal materia at any given time. So requiring every member of the team for the final battle, while conceptually cool, it still dragged down the quality of the fights. And I didn't expect Aerith to fight at all for obvious reasons so she didn't have a single materia equipped. I still somehow trudged through and squeezed out a win but it did not feel satisfying at all. Time wasting overworld crap, overtuned challenges, some of the minigames just straight up suck. Yet it's still a great game somehow.
