Fighting him on hardest difficulty, Full Strength was definitely a choice I made.

I was like perfect parrying him a bunch with Red and then I found out that it was counter productive and I just needed to be attacking and dodging at all times.

Eventually won after like 10 tries.

I learned that I have a love hate relationship with the Phoenix summon.

Why the fuck does it take over 10 seconds for Phoenix to use Rearise? I think I used it before Odin even started channeling the AOE one shot and it still didn't go off before he finished channeling LOL

I also had a super good attempt at like try 4 that absolutely SHOULD have won. I had him staggered at like 50% HP and Red, Cait had their level 3 Limits ready and Cloud had level 2. I went through everyone to activate their limits all at once and was like "This should be enough..."

And as I do everything, for some reason, it just didn't read the input for Cloud's level 2 limit and by the time I got back around to seeing if everyone's doing their move, the stagger was basically over and Cloud hadn't even started using it at all.

Odin was left with 10% HP and then one shot everyone, it was really cool!

Game has a problem with queuing up actions frequently I've noticed v_v

For Odin I don't think it's a matter of not taking damage, you have to actively be parrying him in order to prevent his Zantetsuken I think.

Staying long range doesn't help since he can still damage your teammates.

I don't know for sure if that's how it works, since I never beat him flawlessly. I somehow managed to tank Zantetsuken and finished him off afterward.

I've noticed this a few times myself. It's also super frustrating when you use all your atb to do an action but the moment you leave menu, you get tapped and it interrupts the action and completely wastes both atb bars. Very fun and cool.

Losing ATB bars to enemy attacks or boss phase changes were a thing in Remake so that's not new. But when I initiate a synergy attack and switch to my 3rd character, I'm expecting the other two to be synergyzing... more than once that hasn't happened and I think sometimes it was my fault (e.g. performing a new action with a synergy character after clicking the synergy move but before it started executing) but I swear more than once it just didnt happen when I told it to. I think with limits too... finicky inputs sometimes I guess.

also with odin you should be constantly debuffing him somehow

if he's debuffed he won't blow the horn unless he's 25% or below in my experience

Hm, may have to try this. But also I assume if I'm busy debuffing instead of hitting him, he'll just laugh and do it anyway.

I don't think Parrying helps. I parried him 4 times in a row with Red and continuously attacked him after the parries and he went into Zantetsuken right after and I was like ???????????????

Oh yeah this happens all the time with Synergy attacks. I'll pop the synergy move with 2 characters and then switch to the one that's not part of the synergy and after like a second or two I'll notice the two characters did NOT start the synergy attack. >=(

Out of curiosity on you guys main playthrough, what party levels were you looking at comd endgame?

I did everything I could and I think I was 50-52

I did everything and was around 49 at the last boss, 47 going into Temple of the Ancients.

Traversal in Nibelheim feels so much better than any other region by far.

I found it to be like, really bad. Being on the Moogle outside of combat in general just feels bad.

My favorite part was rolling around as Cait destroying tons of boxes.

Just reached the Chocosadge, think that's the first noticeboard sidequest that will have me tapping out.

Is the reward for clearing this one worth it?

I don't think you get anything too grear particular but it can be very quickly done. There are 50 of them in total all over water, for sure more than 30 of them are in plain sight.

Right got it done, I saw that type of quest and started having Assassin's Creed Feathers visions.

You get something if you get all of them (I think it was just more useless "earrings" but still), I was stuck on missing one and finally googled and came across a reddit topic where someone said "this is the most commonly missed one" with a map picture, and sure enough it's the one I missed, lol

I had over 30 before I first talked to him lol. Never got 50 tho

I think collecting 40 does get you a weapon for Cait Sith, so Id at least gather that many.

It's 45 that gives the weapon

Think across both Rebirth and Remake, I'm not too keen on the way it incorporates puzzles and minigames.
It always slows down the pace, Rebirth has one of the nicest looking open world maps, but getting anywhere in some of the regions can be a pain because you're always running into something.

It's probably why I prefer Kalm and Nibelheim, you can get to where you want pretty painlessly.
Cities locales like Junon or Gold Saucer are the best because they're very straightforward.
So far I love when I make a beeline to end a chapter's plot, get to go through nice cutscenes, some great fights and you can feel the stakes rising.

Not a fan when going through the plot and you get a mediocre minigame stop starting and killing the pace as you need to figure out how it works. I went from hyped and looking forward to an expected encounter, to spending time on the phone looking up what I'm overlooking.

That was one thing I liked from the original, none of the locations overstayed their welcome, and the minigames aren't really puzzle based. Very quick and painless affair.

I had to force myself to move on trom Gongaga because knew this would happen. I thought the environment was great, the city and the story was really moving. And so figured I would try some side quests, just because liked the area and wanted to stay there longer. Then you hear Red say "I know we're on a mission but we just gotta help these chickens" and know it's gonna be a huge waste of time that will sour your memory.

It demands a lot from the player to be expert enough at game design meta to curate their own experience like that. But that's the nature of such a broad audience game.

The soundtrack in Gongagas overworld is among my favorites, enjoyed exploring there for that alone.

Yeah I wasn't able to decide if the chicken quest was just a bad quest or intentionally bad as a meta joke about bad quests. I'm leaning more toward the later, but the issue with a joke like that is that I still have to play through the bad quest.

That being said the whole quest takes like 5 minutes so it was fine.

As for my own progress, I assume I'm in the home stretch? Basically just got to ch 12 and had the world open up. My party is lvl 45, which I saw is close to the lvl a lot of you were at when beating it. I'm definitely gonna finish at least the legit side quests, but idk how much more beyond that. Oh and QB of course, still the best thing about this game. I really need them to make a legit spin-off like they did with Gwent. Although speaking of, idk if the difficulty has just leveled out or my deck is just really good, but I haven't lost a march in quite a long time.

Chocobo Racing is gonna take a while to clear.

It's fun but challenging

Any must complete sidequests from Chapter 12?

The way they all popped up at the start of the chapter tells me this is my last stop for those types of quests before moving on with the plot. Kinda like what happened with XVI.

But now that I'm so close to the home stretch I kinda actually do wanna get round to completing the story.
If there's shit to see before then I'm all ears.

XVI's side missions added to the game a lot ahead of the endgame.

The chicken thing was dumb and tedious but the punchline saved it imo
