As someone who has won multiple Mario Kart tournaments and have played the heck out of that game. Yes they are bad. There is no obstacle in any Mario Kart course / track that even comes close to that annoying.

Cactuar Doors would sometimes kinda sucked me in which seemed like bad physics where I was clearly through with 95% of the chocobo, that feels not intended. Otherwise I didn't mind them much.

I honestly think Rebirth is probably the best video game I've ever played, full stop. My gripes with it are so incredibly minor and I loved 99.5% of my experience top to bottom.

Anyone whining about the mini games needs to either skip them, or stop sucking. Also why would you want no variety in the gameplay at all? Then you get FFXVI and that game was mid minus.

I'm up to Costa del Sol and none of the mini-games have been bad. The only thing I've really disliked was Cactuar pics. I looked up the one that ended up being on the fire hydrant. That's not technically a mini-game though, I guess?

Some minigames are just games I am not good at, and thats okay.
Run and Wild? Easy.
Galactic Saviors? Fun
3D Brawler or Pirate's Rampage? AAAAAAAAAAAARGH

Rebirth is my third favorite game this year (so far).

I haven't found a mini-game I'm bad at yet, but iirc the piano stuff got patched to be more generous on position of the sticks, right?

And while Remake didn't have no variety, it certainly has less than Rebirth.

Both games are great. I enjoy the more linear style of Remake, but Rebirth builds and enhances so many things that it'd be difficult for me to go back I think.

Yeah, I definitely meant that Rocket League is a traffic simulator, and not that there is a preexisting term for that style of game without the rocket cars.

I was thinking I might consider it the best single-player game ever during and between Chapters 6 and 9, but the fall off in average quality from 11 to 14 plus the messy design of the post-game hold it back. Especially 11 (last half) and 14 which were oofs.

It's weird, but I feel like a number of areas have great story content, but dull or annoying world maps while other areas are comfy to navigate around, but the story stuff doesn't really hit.

Slowly making my way through this. Doing some extra sidequests in chapter 12 now.

It's interesting how the minigames expect you to be fairly proficient in multiple different genres to get all the rewards from. I feel like I've played other games with a lot of minigames, but didn't need to be nearly as good at them. Let me see if I can make a list of the genres/similar games:

RTS
Rail shooter
Soccer
Kart racing
Road Rash
Star Fox
Punch Out
Song-based rhythm games
Non-song based rhythm games
Superman 64
Rodeo

Ward abuse & elemental-Fire on armor....?

Yeah, Aerith/Bomb fight is pretty bad. I pretty much always equip Aerith with something to grant her ATB immediately and have her use Radiant Ward immediately.

Ha, I just did that fight too. I used whichever ward it was that blocks projectiles and elemental + Fire on armor (Elemental still only level 1, even though I'm pretty sure I've had it equipped since I got it). That fight was definitely the hardest of that series.

I used that Lustrous Shield or whatever its called, seemed to block most of their stuff

Yeah Lustrous Shield helped, but I was still taking too much damage. I packed it in for tonight, gonna try again tomorrow. Just a really frustrating fight, by far the worst in the game so far - the repeated stun-locks makes it a really bad and frustrating sort of difficulty

do you get radiant ward by then?

ATB boost materia while playing as solo Aerith helps a lot too

Speed Materia, First Strike, ATB Boost to immediately place Lustrous Shield and Radiant Ward.

Because yeah, unless you actually grinded or had AP Up linked to it the entire game, you are not going to have a level 2 Elemental.

I spent so much time in post-game content I've lost appreciation for what the in-game materia leveling situation was like, lol :(
