I kind of want to impulse buy Theatrhythm too, but it's for the opposite reason - I love rhythm games but I don't really like Final Fantasy or Final Fantasy music. I don't know what to do!

If you LOVE FF I think it'd be a pretty easy sell even if you're unsure of the genre. I mean, I bought and played Mega Man Soccer.

It's not like it's a ban against gay people. It's a ban against dudes who have had penetrative sex with other dudes. The fact is that this does mean a higher risk of diseases and I sure as heck wouldn't want to have sex with someone who didn't know this. They aren't just excluding gay people for no reason, like they do in pretty much every other facet of life that excludes gay people. This is like the one time where it might be legit.

And I'm sort of tired of having to subscribe to a specific set of ideals because I'm homosexual, thanks.

I assume they wouldn't test the blood because testing might be expensive. It's probably easier and cheaper to ban gay men from donating than it is to just test all of their blood. If the statistics say that gay men have a significantly higher rate of HIV than the general population, then it makes sense. It sucks, but that's probably the best way to go. Yeah, this is the thing I don't get. HIV and other diseases/bad things are prevalent enough in anyone's blood that not testing it for these things is far too risky. I guess they just figure that the rate is too high among those participating in gay sex that it's not worth it. I buy that the rate is higher but I don't buy that it's not worth it.

I think they're incorrect but that doesn't mean it's not understandable.

I don't really know why we can't just do tests on the blood, since HIV is found in plenty of people who don't engage in gay sex also, but whatever, it's just the reality of the situation that man-on-man sex has risks associated with it. Woman-on-woman pretty much doesn't though so hooray China for actually being progressive for a change?

Yeah, I'm gay and even I understand this. It's not like it's totally random that they're allowing it for lesbians but not gay men. Pretty different cases.

I was rooting for Djokovic/Tsonga but it is exciting to see Federer have another opportunity like this. I kind of thought Federer would never get to #1 again, that it was Djokovic/Nadal's time now, and the fact that he could be back at #1 is mindblowing. It blows my mind how good Federer is.

Yeah I agree with this. I like endings that have a mix of emotion. Like, a good ending would be one that has a triumph, but one that comes with some sort of cost.

What about GlaDOS/WCC?

Interesting, I thought the exact same thing when I was playing KI:U - that this is the spiritual sequel to Star Fox 64 that I've always wanted. KI:U is like Star Fox Assault but actually good. SFA was dumb. KI:U is a masterpiece. The rail shooter segments are great, the land combat is great, the characters, the world, the monster designs are all inspired, and the script is surprisingly laugh-out-loud funny and oozing with charm.

The only problems are that the controls are a little hand-cramping and some of the platforming segments are really fiddly (Pit dashes way too quickly and winds up falling off stuff way too often as a result). Otherwise it's pretty much perfect. I didn't have that much of a problem with the controls actually, I don't find them hard to use, I just don't want to play the game for more than a couple hours at a time.

Hahahaha the last 20 seconds are just awesome. I didn't watch the whole thing but I think I get the gist of it.

A mistake I see pretty much every new player make is that they use Explore +1 +1 too much. It certainly has its place, especially when your handsize is small and you have no resources. In fact that's basically when you use it. If you have plenty of cards or you have resources, don't explore, or use Explore +5. Explore +5 is tricky. it seems bad but it's important for trying to see as many cards as possible to expand your combo potential. Explore +1 +1 isn't great. The main problem with Explore is that selecting it always allows everyone else to Explore, when it may be better to use other powers so that your opponent doesn't benefit so easily.

As a general rule, trading is awesome and I almost never win a game without doing it, unless I do a mass develop or mass consume x2 strategy. Trade for stuff. Don't feel like you have to go for alien (yellow) worlds, they're sort of a trap. Trading on brown and green worlds does just fine.

Although developers do not gain from the actual transfer of ownership from one party to another, "resale value" is a fundamental property of nearly all physical property that is sold.

As such, it is something that consumers consider when making a purchase, and as such, it is something that the developers DO in fact benefit from. The mere existence of such a large market for used games proves that many purchasers of games do so fully intending to resell at a later date. Therefore, if resale were not an option, game sales might potentially decline, or prices would have to be adjusted.

For example: If someone buys a $60 game with the intention of selling it for $20 a couple months later, that person is really only spending $40 worth of funds (ignoring the time value of money for such a small period and given the average gamer doesn't necessarily have a well constructed stock portfolio). Theoretically, if that developer were to offer the same game, only WITHOUT the ability to transfer ownership, that customer would only be willing to pay $40 for the game.

I hate the argument that used games are "worse" than piracy. Resale value is totally a component of the value of anything you buy and games are included. The sales of used games don't give developers money, but the existence of such a market does benefit them, even if they are way too short-sighted to realize it.

I would say the same thing is often true about piracy as well, although pirating brand new games instead of buying them is overall a harmful practice. However, so is draconian DRM measures to counteract it.

I misworded what I meant. Yes, the sample of people I know is certainly biased, there's thousands of reasons for that beyond that. However the sample of people I know should be fairly neutral in terms of how many gay people I know, aside from age which is a genuine factor. I meant that to separate it from someone who's like, openly gay and going to gay bars and associating with specifically gay sections of the population, which I'm not doing. THAT would be biased.

This article says it's only like 2%. I find that incredibly hard to believe. I will be fair though, I live in the Seattle area, which might be higher than the national average, or at least higher in self-reporting. But way more than 2% of all people are I know are gay, and that's an unbiased sample since I'm mostly closeted. It's more like 8-10%.

The more fascinating part of that article is how bad people are at percentages. I don't think people are overestimating the number of gays, they just don't know how much 25% is.

Are you sure about that? I recently read an article about how Americans WAY over-estimate the number of gay people. The average American, when asked to estimate, estimates around 20% but the actual number is 3%. I might not have that EXACTLY right but I'll bet you it's no higher than 5.

I'm sure you read a lot of articles that say interesting things.

3% means only 1 in 33 people are gay. It's more than that even if you only count people who are publicly out of the closet.

Yeah, this is what I mean by hoping that gay pride eventually becomes unnecessary. Gays should be able to be gay without fear of persecution. It'll happen eventually. When it does, only then can being gay stop being a big deal.

I don't really dig the whole gay pride thing, but I understand it. It's a defense mechanism. It's making a statement in a still pretty anti-gay world that you're cool with being gay. My problem with it is that it can seem like gays are trying to stand out and separate themselves from everyone else. I don't like to make a big deal out of it like that. I think being gay is awesome, I wouldn't change it, and I guess I'm proud of it but only because I like myself in general. Not because I think being gay is special.

But I think the whole gay pride thing still has its place and my hope is really that it won't be needed some day.

I'm not shocked when a gay celebrity comes out of the closet, because being gay isn't something to be shocked about, and also because who cares if a celebrity is gay. It'd only be interesting if it was something REALLY out of left field. Like if Rush Limbaugh came out as gay. That would be amazing.

You know, as far as the character roster goes, the thing I'm actually most excited for is how they're going to update Pit. Kid Icarus Uprising gives them a TON of material to work with. I don't think they'll include any new characters from it, but if Pit doesn't get a significant update I'll be disappointed.

Yeah, I'm on the fence about Race to the Galaxy. I've played it a lot since I think all the different card powers and fun and the single-player computer version of it is really well done, but it is without a doubt one of the most inelegant and bloated games I've ever played. I don't even have a problem remembering what the cards do, and it's still an information overload. There's too many cards and sometimes finding the ones you need is a total crapshoot, although part of being good at the game is making combos out of what you happen to draw.

Yeah, I'd ditch Wolf but I'd keep Falco since he's kind of a legacy character at this point. I'm sure that if they tried hard enough they could give him some different moves from Fox (or keep the moves he has but give Fox different moves). And seriously give him some kind of Arwing-based final smash instead of a Landmaster, that was the laziest thing, completely out of character.

Get rid of Wolf though. He's really unnecessary. He's cool, but he's adding absolutely nothing to the game.

I'd keep Toon Link and give him some WW-based moves or something. There's a lot they could do there, they just didn't really try very hard.

Actually, looking at the roster, the only characters that I don't think should return are Wolf and Lucario. I don't know who else I would keep out. I could probably live without ROB. I don't really care about Lucas either, but I know a lot of people do.

Again, they didn't even say they're not going to add new characters. They're just not going to add as many as they did in Melee and Brawl. They're not going to add like 20 new characters. I can't even name 20 new Nintendo-related characters that I'd like to see, and I know Mega Man doesn't even have a chance so that's one fewer yet.
