KI:U was a fun game that did some amazing things. It was definitely harder to play without the stand it comes with, but I was still able to play most of the game by just holding it. This is probably the spiritual successor to Star Fox 64 -- great quotes, fun flying levels, lots of secrets, and its land-based action was also more fun than SF:Ass(ault)'s. I only got it because I won a Best Buy giftcard and they accidentally still had the game marked down $10 dollars from a previous sale...but it's a quality game that benefits from not taking itself too seriously.
Pit better be awesome in the next Super Smash Bros.-game!
Next game up: time to finish the Phoenix Wright-trilogy with Trials and Tribulations...! Keep your dirty spoilers to yourself, PW-fans.

Interesting, I thought the exact same thing when I was playing KI:U - that this is the spiritual sequel to Star Fox 64 that I've always wanted. KI:U is like Star Fox Assault but actually good. SFA was dumb. KI:U is a masterpiece. The rail shooter segments are great, the land combat is great, the characters, the world, the monster designs are all inspired, and the script is surprisingly laugh-out-loud funny and oozing with charm.
The only problems are that the controls are a little hand-cramping and some of the platforming segments are really fiddly (Pit dashes way too quickly and winds up falling off stuff way too often as a result). Otherwise it's pretty much perfect. I didn't have that much of a problem with the controls actually, I don't find them hard to use, I just don't want to play the game for more than a couple hours at a time.

I'm in the middle of finishing this one up too. I got to the fourth case and got bored a few months ago. Just got passed it yesterday and this fifth case is already pulling me back in.

Will not remove this line of my signature until the Seahawks, Jazz or Rockies win a title (Started 5-16-09) SuperNiceDog: Guru winner
Platforming had moments of frustration, but it wasn't very common to be on areas where you could fall off anyway -- particularly the tricky narrow spots. Only one or two levels bothered me on that.

I didn't get too much into the online modes, but it was fun when I wasn't completely outclassed. Weapon fusing was also a neat idea, though I stopped combining weapons after awhile.
Intensity levels were one of the most novel things about the game; I think that could easily catch on.
