This article says it's only like 2%. I find that incredibly hard to believe. I will be fair though, I live in the Seattle area, which might be higher than the national average, or at least higher in self-reporting. But way more than 2% of all people are I know are gay, and that's an unbiased sample since I'm mostly closeted. It's more like 8-10%.
The more fascinating part of that article is how bad people are at percentages. I don't think people are overestimating the number of gays, they just don't know how much 25% is.
No, because black people have actually earned that piece of history. Gays like to pretend like they are part of some struggle when they aren't. Unless you count people peacefully getting annoyed when they try to redefine what isn't theirs.

And Muffin, 10% of every single species in recorded history is gay.
okay wait
I'm pretty sure a lot less than 10% of like, say, ants are gay
well considering what a crazy high percentage of ants are female I think, if a lot of them aren't gay, they asexual or whatever. I think that makes I dunno I'm too f***ed up right now but I think ants work that way and/or bees. Soemthing like that. You know, the workers are female and only a few males are there and they're drones or whatever and they just dick around and f*** the queen when she's in the mood but they get killed afterward so they're just pieces of meat and I dunno where I got this all from but it was definitely a source of information. Nevermind I'm going to bed

Wait, didn't he come out a long time ago? This seems like old news to me.
And Para, your sample is very biased, based on your age, gender and orientation, closeted or not. Just saying.
I misworded what I meant. Yes, the sample of people I know is certainly biased, there's thousands of reasons for that beyond that. However the sample of people I know should be fairly neutral in terms of how many gay people I know, aside from age which is a genuine factor. I meant that to separate it from someone who's like, openly gay and going to gay bars and associating with specifically gay sections of the population, which I'm not doing. THAT would be biased.
I mean, its the one weekend of the year that I can hold hands with my husband without getting stares, degrading comments, or death threats, and yes, that has happened to us. So, sorry if I like feeling safe and secure.
You're telling me nobody gives stares, degrading comments or death threats when an entire parade of the thing they abhor comes through town? Seems like that would attract MORE negativity, TBQH.

I see where you're coming from, but it's not like that. People travel for hours to get to pride celebrations. Sure, there's always a couple people with megaphones and signs, but when 99% of the people downtown are LGBT or allies, they can't single out specific people. We just hang out on the opposite side of the festivities from where those losers are.

Uganda might pass a bill that says homosexuality is a crime and the punishment is death. They call this bill the "Kill the gays" bill.
I was referring to the US, obviously. But it's nice to know you literally had to cite an African dictatorship to find a place where gays are "part of the struggle."

Maybe my life is biased or whatever (I don't see how, though), but 1-3% seems about right for the amount of gay people in society. I think when you live in an urban center the number might go up quite significantly, but still... 10% means that 1 in 10 people are gay? No way.

From a bit of completely scientific research (meaning, google), it looks like 4% of the population is lesbian/gay, 5% is bi, and >1% transgender, making up for roughly 10% LGBT.

bi is wayyyy too subjective of a definition
for example, my girlfriend has had sex with a girl, but is not "bi" because 1). she would only go down on a girl to enhance sex with a guy and 2). she would never consider dating a girl
