Hydras can crit, yes.

And I've switched back to sparkflint since the patch. Because you get the percentage buff just for activating it, and then you get the damage it deals if they shots actually hit.


And when i'm running act 1 I use energy armor that gives me +5% crit chance. I don't think I can afford to do that on any other acts yet, at least not solo. But with the crit armor turned on I'm at like 33% crit (maybe higher?) And thanks to the green star in my weapon my crits deal 120% damage. So every extra % of crit is an extra 1.2% damage. (based on the non crit damage total)


You don't want to be ALL crit just like you dont want to be ALL attack speed, but it definitely pays dividends to figure out the DPS formula and figure out which factors you can increase to do the most good.


Like when I'm getting ready to buy an upgrade I'll take a few minutes to figure some things out.

For starts I'll REMOVE the piece I'm trying to upgrade and then figure out a few things without factoring in the item's stats.
1) How much damage will I get per 5 INT
2) How much damage will I get per 1% crit (if its a piece that can even roll crit)
3) How much damage do I get for 10% crit damage
4) How much damage will I get per 1% IAS

And especially if you have very low values in some of those areas you would be surprised to learn how much you actually get from them. Like if you have 0 added IAS in your build then you know that every 1% IAS is going to increase your damage by 1%. And so back when rings would commonly roll 15% attack speed it was incredibly useful to just run 60 int and 15% attack speed because how what a massive boost that was to your DPS. But suppose you have 18% from your 2 rings and 0% on your neck. Getting a 8% attack speed neck will not increase your DPS by 8% of what it currently is, it will give you 8% on top of the total that isn't already affected by attack speed. Which is why you have to calc the effect of all the values independent of each other.

Early in my inferno career I tried to pick up Intel and All Resist.

Combined with Prismatic Armor to have crazy high all resists.

I have since then decided that I would rather have crit chance and crit damage and even more Intel at the cost of the defensive stats. I would rather just play more skillfully and avoid damage than to sacrifice DPS at this point.

When I'm playing with a friend then I'm not usually going to take anyways and when I'm playing by myself the enemies have enough less HP that the extra DPS is what tips the scales to allow me to melt things quick enough to overcome being alone.

I just don't remember adding him is all. Haven't really truly started using my Battle.Net account except for D3. I've always had it but it was mostly just a "download Wc3 when I reformat and/or lose my discs" device before.

It's something I wish I knew my first time through, although there probably weren't many "level requirement reduced by 14" gear even on the AH yet at that point. But now I'm sure there is enough available to drive the price on the mediocre 60 gear way down.

I do have a suggestion for people who are above level 45.

When you are looking for upgrades on the AH, LOOK FOR LEVEL 60 ITEMS


Just make sure you sort for items that have "reduced level requirement" by enough on them that you will be allowed to wear them.

Solfadore's post is what made me think of it, and maybe he isn't even buying on the AH too much, but if he is and if he's sorting for "level 52" and lower items the level 60 items will NOT show up even if they have "level requirement reduced by 8" on them. You have to actually sort for 60 items with that specific item stat yourself.

But you can probably find "bad" level 60 items that are actually a huge upgrade for fairly cheap.

(1) Steal credit card info and buy D3

You realize that they put item level 63 gear INTO act 1.

It used to be that iLVL 61 was the highest that could possibly drop and suddenly you have a % chance to drop something that will roll and be the BEST item in the game. Something that wasn't even possible before.



It's like blizzard said "you think it's too hard to open the 'door' that is acts 2-4? Well okay we hid the key to that door in act 1, go knock yourselves out".

This sounds fine to me, but in the VERY same patch they also removed the door.

Why do both?

That is what they made inferno sound like it would be is the only thing that gives me pause.

Like it was supposed to be the incredibly difficult thing and so why is their first instinct to nerf it in two different ways at the same time?

Why not just make drops better in act 1 and see how that works out for awhile?

It just seems like they were so fast to make it easier that I don't even understand it.

but inferno as a whole is definitely easier now if you have decent equipment. essentially it's been rebalanced so that anyone will be able to beat inferno without having to spend a completely ridiculous amount of time farming, even if they're not great at the game or have one of the less favored classes.

But I thought the whole point was that Inferno was supposed to be an ******* to beat.

That only the small percentage of people willing to put in the time would conquer it.


I mean the entire idea of Inferno to me coming in was that it wasn't supposed to be the sort of thing you could even beat by yourself.

I assumed that I would clear Normal, Nightmare and Hell by myself. Then maybe gear up just a bit before Red, Chris and I (with whoever else happened to play with us the most) would tackle Inferno as a team. Not because we want to hold hands and sing songs together while we do it, but because it would be bloody necessary if we wanted to stand a chance at all.

And even then I didn't think it would be a matter of a few weeks to beat inferno but would rather be a gradual progression through the same content but at a difficulty SO much greater that we'd do a quest, get into "lets do this mode" and then rejoice upon reaching the next checkpoint alive.




I'm not sure that PvP is the answer as Krippi said, but it does feel like there is something of a lack in the satisfying end game department.

In WoW there are high end raids and it is my understanding that it takes large numbers of people a great deal of effort to achieve progression in them. But yesterday morning right after I killed azmodan solo, chris showed up and we basically just said "well I guess we're strong enough now, lets clear act 4". And so we did. Yes I was very wizard like and died quite a few times, but it was virtually nonstop progression start to finish. It did not feel like "this is the most difficult part of the game".

And yes I still enjoy act 1 runs and I'm still going to be squeezing those in during my spare time. And I like that I've made closer to 50 dollars on the RMAH now because I don't have money often and so it's nice to have, and I know I'm going to start putting some more serious time into a hard core character and perhaps actually start to seriously run a different softcore class, but I just wish it felt like there was something more difficult to accomplish.

I'm not saying I didn't die in act 1. I did.

But I also entered act 1 STRAIGHT from hell and cleared my first elite group in the chapel. That was back when I had around 12-13k DPS. Took a lot of space to kite but I did not die to my very first group.

I was able to kill my first elite group in act 1 solo.

Even if I was unable I would be more than capable of loading act 1, clearing all the zombie until the cathedral, rinse and repeat until I had an upgrade of some kind.

That's assuming i didn't want to just run hell again and buy upgrades that will allow me to more than handle act 1 inferno for 100k each.

Inferno is difficult sure, but I agree with Lopen, not hard enough.

And then they went and nerfed it on top of that?

In a few months time who do they expect is going to spend a bunch of money on high end gear? Everyone with "strongish" gear and half a mind to do it can clear inferno.

If you were to compare that to the equivalent part of Korra, it's the final Aang show up where he cures Korra's bending problem. Similar to energy bending, that kind of appeared out of nowhere. Except the reason that happened was because... Korra hit rock bottom supposedly. Literally right there. There was nothing leading to this scene to expect this other than "lol everything will work out in the end" Korra never pondered "what will things be like if I lose my bending?" She was just like IMA RUN IN THERE EVEN THOUGH WE ARE VASTLY OUTNUMBERED AND BEAT UP AMON. Now that she's lost her bending she's just suddenly suicidal or something. It's not exactly an unreasonable reaction, but with the amount of time devoted to it, it's so poorly done.

Well there was that one episode where she was "terrified" of Amon and waking up with nightmares and whatnot.

They needed to keep playing that angle I think. Instead she "got over it" at the end of the episode and dropped the idea.

He had that all in spades. He had the arrogance, he had the endless amounts of power, and he had the ruthlessness. Just looking at him in any scene he was in and you get that vibe. That was really all he needed to be and he did great at it.

Eh, they established that he was a bad father.
They established that he was willing to engage in dirty politics to be the leader.
They established that he was more powerful than Zuko when Zuko was a kid.
They established that a young airbender named aang was afraid of him.

They did not establish how much ACTUAL strength he had. Ozai did not have any real feats. Azula had feats galore and she felt like an actual threat. How many combat feats did Ozai show? I can't remember any until the final battle starts and his strength in that battle was heavily reliant on Sozen's comet.


imo they needed Ozai to do some major damage against people. I'm not sure how they would write it in exactly, maybe just every once in awhile show him personally leading forces and doing major work against a group of earth benders or something. Just ANYTHING to give the fear aang showed more credibility.

I have found that as long as drink a ton of water in the hours after drinking I am not negatively affected the next day.

And so in the morning I'll feel "full" on water for a bit. But then my body realizes that it's being stupid and I become famished/normal.

Yeah make take on the whole bending removal aspect was that Amon was doing very specific brain damage in a way that inhibits bending.


Perhaps there are different sections of the brain that allow bending to occur and after years of experimentation Amon figured out exactly which parts of the brain to target. I imagine that he simply kidnapped/killed people and figured it out through trial and error. Just killed off a dozen or so firebenders until he learned where the "fire bending" section of the brain is at. Repeat with Earth/Water.

This could also explain why he was unable to remove Korra's airbending? He wasn't used to cutting off that particular pathway in the because he never had access to other air benders?



I'm not sure though because he seemed pretty confident that he would be able to remove Tenzin + family's bending.

Well I noticed that you can proc paralysis using Magic Weapon - Electrify and so I just assumed any lightning source would do since stunning things using icebeam (that ocasionally proc'd lightning which would ocassional proc stun) seemed like the biggest stretch.


And if you are running with a solid tank you can always run power of the storm and perma cast disintingrate for dat damage.

HGR just had a super farming run of inferno act 1 o_O

I landed a chest upgrade, and an amulet partial upgrade pretty early on which had me super stoked. And then picked up a legendary mace and a green set of pants within about a minute of each just before the warden. Definitely my strongest run of act 1 so far.
The mace was worthless and got salvaged, but I sold the brimstone for 75k which is more than mace would have earned, but the pants will go on the RMAH as soon as a slot frees up (in 3 hours).

HGR only left with a handful of things to potentially sell I believe, but most notably among them (afaik) was a quiver that could easily sell for the 2.4M gold he listed it for.
