Man I hope that was meant to be a jab at how stupid that video was.

Cause it was.

Though I'm less against the respec thing now that I know they intend to at least give you incentive to not change your skills every area in the form of a buff that accumulates for each boss you kill and increases magic find that resets whenever you respec (among other things).

Like I'm okay with the respec being a feature as long as the optimal way to play is still to make a build that can tackle multiple areas instead of respeccing every area.

Yikes, really really slacking off on this. I've been doing the cards daily but I can't usually bring myself to empty the queue lately even if it's only just under 100. And so it slowly snowballs. Repeatedly getting like 40 really old cards a day these days is getting kinda discouraging in some ways. I mean, it's nice in some ways because you see that you won't be seeing that card for months, but the card queue is so large at this point that you know you're always gonna get a ton every day. Really dislike having to do triple digits of these on any given day unless I'm not busy with anything else <_<

And thanks for the random bumps Jeff Zero. Though I for the most part abuse the hell out of the purge timer as you can see by this one which is the main reason I hadn't been posting, but there's always that chance I do need it.

Okay I'll give on the whining on the skill system for now till I see how that buff works better. This Nephalem's Valor buff concept I like quite a bit and pretty much removes the issues I've had with the skill system in the first place, even if the game becomes a bit easier as a result. Playing in an optimal way for mf will probably be just as difficult, at least. If it's not the optimal thing to do to swap your skill set every area it's a really nice bonus to people who actually know how to make a good build instead of just metagaming every area.

I just hope it accumulates a lot (as in, stacking 50 bosses helps significantly more than stacking 5) to really make it worthwhile to make builds that can clear multiple areas without swapping. (and to give a point to clearing multiple areas) And that the boost is noticeable, but that goes without saying.

Resetting on death would be nice too as incentive to not die (though I guess since I usually play on HC this doesn't matter as much to me)

That video was a good hype thing and I enjoyed watching it but it didn't really alleviate much of my concern about the difficulty. I was kinda hyped when they were saying they were going to make monsters after act 1 faster/have more attacks but they didn't really stress that this would happen in NM/Hell/Inferno vs normal so still I'm not sure it'll be too different than d2, which kinda already did this. (gloams in a3 and up are more difficult enemy patterns to cope with than say a1 zombies)

Beyond that it was a bunch of testamonials of guys sayin they got their ass kicked (who cares) followed by "we're adding more mods to unique monsters as the difficulty goes up." (Oh okay that's different from Diablo 2 how.)
'
Even if they just came out and said something like they were changing their approach to difficulty and the big concern with hell/inferno wasn't going to be breaking immunities and just killing/surviving in the first place with crazy fast/complicated enemies and you're going to need to use wisely evasive skills and such to survive even when you're able to damage things fine I would've been reassured. But sounds just like more of the same from D2 (based on this video)

It's easy to assume every person on the Internet who acts obnoxious often is a troll. Thing is, I've seen a lot of Joyrock's arguments and at this point I think I can tell to some extent which ones are trolling (I still bite on some of them, but I digress). The difference is though, sometimes you can tell he actually does care enough to argue legitimately about something, something that he might have some passion about, and isn't doing it just to yank people's chain, and while he comes off as slightly more civil in these arguments he's still very... well, you can tell he doesn't "get" how certain concepts of persuasion, presentation, and argumentation work. I'm not sure if he's legitimately slow or is socially incompetent to some extent, but he clearly just doesn't understand some things.

I personally think it's a case of Internet egotism. We all want to think that everyone on the internet, and particularly in our community, is smart and well adjusted unless we're absolutely sure, because that's us, but some people just don't get things. Joyrock is basically a youtube commenter (take this as you will) that stumbled onto b8 and happens to knows how to use spellcheck.

My solution to the "need more storylines" note in the mindless Arnold fed was to make an "Arnold Schwarzenegger is Unstoppable" storyline that was to just a bunch of wins for Arnold over random people with (ironically) Sid Vicious eventually stopping it. Pretty sure there's a default storyline that goes like that. The great part is I always evolve it (into the exact same storyline) before Sid actually wins... but someday, man, he'll get his win. <_<

Also haha at Daffney vs Sid main event/set-up for it. That they somehow have good chemistry and made a watchable match out of it makes it even more great.

I think I finally figured out why too. I think I managed to crystalize why I'm not big on it last night when I was talking about it with Sytha yesterday.

The problem with the game is that almost every time you first visit a town nothing significant happens there. The big thing happens later. The draw of the first time through a town is exploring the town for the most part. So the result (for me) is none of the locations feel all that significant or memorable. The first impression is the most important one, they say. This also causes me to blend the story events together to some extent cause you always come back to cities for the important stuff so you can't tie things to locations (and hence I can't sequence them) as easily.

FFIX is the only FF game I can't really recite from beginning to end-- just has a hard time being memorable.

(There's also too much minigame collectable stuff to collect even for a FF game and the combat system might be the slowest of a FF game but these are different issues I could've pointed out earlier)

So yeah your masterpiece is unmemorable how do you feel about that.

Ultramantis Black d. Douglas Williams when Val Venus's interference backfires. (51) Backstage, Ultramantis Black has an interview where he explains to the accursed Hemme that this "Daniels" nonsense has become a thorn in his side... he'll prove he's not Daniels, by exposing the real one who LURKS AMONG US. He will unmask Suicide, and show that it's really Daniels under that mask, not his! HAHAHAHA! Christy tries to point out that it'd be easier for him to just unmask but gets a "SILENCE HEMME" and a lecture on being properly devious for her efforts. (62)

Beer Money draw the MCMG to retain the tag titles as the match is thrown out when Glacier's music hits and he makes an entrance, completely disrupting the match! Mr. Anderson hops the rails and bludgeons everyone with a chair (82) Beatdown and entrance continue a bit, cause Anderson is TWISTED (62)

Kurt Angle d. Kota Ibushi to retain in a match where the Japanese challenger looks very competent but can't quite get it done. Jarrett and VC "Cliff" Compton try to interfere to help Ibushi, but AJ Styles comes down and stops them...? (85) Sting comes out laughing madly mumbling something and stares down Angle nose to nose... and Angle taunts him to his face as the show fades to black. (88)

76 - Success! lol angles

================

Bookerz notez:
I decided to have a drug test of my whole roster for their health or something. I decide to have 3 "tracks" and hope it works on people.

Hard Drugs- Last Chance, Suspend, Fire
Steroids- Stern Warning, Fine, Riot Act, Suspend, Last Chance, Fire
Steroids PPA - Last Chance, Fire
Soft Drugs- Fatherly, Stern Warning, Fine repeatedly

Hard Drugs - Kurt Angle, Scott Steiner, Raven
Steroids - Gunner, Devon, Hernandez, Hogan, Anderson, Aries
Soft Drugs - Shannon Moore, Lethal, RVD, Jeff Hardy, Kendrick, BG James

Gonna wait a month or two to do another test in case I need to suspend Angle <_<. I think he reformed, though. Everyone but Hernandez, Anderson, and Aries seemed to respond well to what I did. Those 3 didn't get mad they just seemed irritated. Hopefully Anderson and Aries reform before I get through the whole track.

Also apparently it doesn't matter at all where you run TV shows except for attendance, unless you're running them somewhere that doesn't have TV viewership of you. I've been running in the Tri-State for the last month so I cheated and looked in the data editor and my tri-state hasn't gone up any relative to the rest of the US and I've probably been slightly tanking show ratings by running them outside of the South East :/

Both Raw and SD this week get 78-- let's see if Tom can beat them!

He's literally one show away from the second week, and I felt like booking, so.

Impact Week 2 Jan 2012

SHOWTIME:

Sting is out to start the show again... incoherently babbling about Kurt Angle... then Kurt shows up to the arena with Joe! He gets stopped by security, but Sting orders them to let them in! Kurt says tonight he'll grace Impact with a title defense, but only on his terms... he's been scouring the globe and he's going to fight real talent... the Japanese superstar, from NJPW, Kota Ibushi! He points to the front row where Kota Ibushi is in attendance. Sting begrudingly allows it (72)

Glacier says he and Anderson are going to have to work to be noticed in the tag division. He has a plan... Anderson doesn't seem interested as we cut to a match (51) AJ Styles d. X-Pac. X-Pac tries to call for "the band" during the match but no one shows much to X-Pac's disappointment (82)

Robbie E is backstage with Big Stevie Ray, and says tonight they're gonna do a parody of the Scorpion King just like his bro did back in the day, to get under The Lethal Warrior's skin. Stevie Ray says he's not doing it because his paycheck bounced. Robbie E says it'll be okay and convinces him to at least come to the ring again. (45) Robbie E vs Lethal Warrior ends in a time limit draw after Stevie Ray randomly rings the bell after 10 minutes have passed. Robbie E says that TV title matches have a 10 minute time limit-- didn't you all watch WCW? (70)

Matt Morgan and Val Venus d. The Old Age Outlaws. Morgan is in a ridiculous looking karate gi shouting "GLACIER!" the whole match, while he dominates without tagging. (53)

Winter is in the ring with Angelina Love. She says that a higher purpose has been defined for the knockouts title, and that to attain it, the TNA woman's division must be united under one banner. She pulls out an exact replica of the KO title and gives one to Angelina, and says from now on, Angelina too will defend the title, and act as the enforcer that would punish all who would doubt its glory. Starting tonight. (71) Angelina Love d. Ayako Hamada to retain the Knockouts Title... I guess? After the match Winter speaks to Hamada, shakes her hand, and pulls out another Knockouts Title. Hamada nods a lot and is led backstage while the the Boogie Knights argue about how well she can understand English. (71) (great chemistry!)

Backstage, Jeff Jarrett and VC "Cliff" Compton are with Kota Ibushi trying to hype him up for his match and giving him pointers. Jarrett does a swinging motion and hands him a guitar and Compton does a punch motion and hands him knucks. The Boogie Knights again argue whether the guy can speak English. (56) Tara bursts into Sting's office and says she deserves a Knockouts Title shot but Sting is completely out of it and ignores her entirely (59)

Austin Aries is in the ring and says the most prestigious title in the company is right here, so come and get it. He calls out RVD, Jeff Hardy, and Raven. It's a four way! (70) Aries d. Raven to retain when RVD and Hardy end up brawling out of the arena (78)

No, but I have reason to be skeptical given how Hell difficulty in D1 and D2 up difficulty. They've never changed AI before so yeah, no real reason to think they will do anything outside of add damage/hp/resists to enemies outside of blind faith in Blizzard-- which if you have that more power to you but I certainly don't at this point.

Well I just know how the Diablo franchise tends to work.

Waves of enemies with predictable patterns, and any difficulty is in being able to weather waves of them using your limited arsenal of tools rather than pure execution for the most part. There aren't many enemies that are particularly tricky to figure out-- the dangerous ones outside of immunities which hose your build (no longer an issue) are cheap tricks like ridiculous lightning damage from invisible guys that can be launched from offscreen or absurd explosion damage upon death or glitched poison-- all of which can easily be dealt after the first time with any build if you had infinite respecs.

You're not informed either, dude. That's exactly my point. I'm saying based on the approach Diablo 2 took to difficulty and skill design, it will absolutely not work. If you've got concrete evidence the game has better AI and less of an abundance of safety net skills, then by all means, maybe it'll work out, but I have no reason to think they changed the enemy formula to compensate for pandering to babies who wanted more respecs in d2, outside of "faith in blizzard," and you don't either. I'm just saying I'm incredibly skeptical and for good reason.

And if you think it's not going to be easy mode basing it off Diablo 2 I'm not sure what to tell you. If I can respec my skills anytime I want I can make a character that can't die short of dropping the mouse and clears dungeons in optimal time in d2 with any class. If you go mono element tree in d2 you can twink your damage really high while still having ample survivability. And if you need extra safety for an act boss or something you can do something stupid like spec into a hydra or guided arrow abusing build and literally kill things from several screens away.

I could honestly play with no gear in hell and do this. Hell you can almost already do it but you actually have to run from some packs (more if you don't want to spend a year killing things) because it's not possible to make a build untwinked that can run every enemy in hell without dying.

Basically the game's going to need to rehaul the skill types it has or its approach to difficulty for it to not be mind numbingly easy.

Pretty good read for those saying that D3 is shallower than Diablo 2 when it comes to Stats/Skills.

Basically, you're wrong.

http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/sm00b/d3_dumbed_down_compared_to_d2_not_so_fast/

Well it's a cute article but it says nothing about my personal problems with the skill system. I agree completely with the stats thing (as I said earlier in the topic) but who cares about that.

D3's skills are definitely deeper because there are a lot more comboes with the runes, but they're also dumbed down because you don't need to actually commit to anything. Getting a skill build that optimally works for your playstyle and for the whole difficulty is a lot tougher than getting a skill build that optimally works for your playstyle for a dungeon-- or in an even lamer case, a boss.

No its exactly what it's like. You're avoiding a certain part of the game to make it more difficult. It's not a matter of "the game is too easy" - if you're having to change skillsets and adapt, it's doing its job.

Even better rpg example would be refusing to use a certain elemental type throughout the game.

Though I disagree that it's more similar to this, avoiding elemental types being necessary to not make the game too easy would be incredibly stupid too.

I dunno I'm just saying I don't see how the game can match up to the difficulty of D2 (which was on the lower edge of acceptable difficulty) if you can just swap your whole skillset on the fly. I'd say probably 80% of the difficulty in D2 was in making a character that could effectively deal with all the immunities in hell while still having enough damage types to be able to kill basically everything, survivability, and enough raw damage to be efficient.

Unless they totally rehaul the way the game approaches difficulty, I just think it's going to be stupidly easy. You spec for damage and crowd control, and you just swap damage types if you need them. In an area where enemies are fast? Stack up slowing abilities and. In an area with lightning immunes? Ditch your lightning attacks for fire or ice. In an area that is just too tough for you to roll over normally? Spec into a super long range killing skill with slows/confuses/minions/etc.

It just seems like you're going to get max efficiency at every point combined with max safety when it's necessary. Which isn't good for difficulty or making characters feel unique-- since they're all basically gonna turn into characters from a final fantasy game where you just equip different materia if you don't like where you're going. Means you don't have to think-- don't have to weigh pros and cons of taking skills cause you can just ditch em with no issue. Builds should have to weigh things like survivability and damage output and damage coverage.

Though in spite of this, the runes interest me. If the skills are well designed there may very well be so many viable skill comboes out there that you won't easily know what's the abusable combo for every situation, which could be neat. I mean I still kinda dislike the idea that there's never a reason to make say more than one wizard since they all have the same capacity and you can just shuffle skills and items to get every possible wizard build out there with just one wizard, but yeah. It might not be a terrible idea, I'm just really skeptical at this point.

That's really not what that's like at all. Not using the op character in an rpg would be like using the skill system to its fullest but ignoring one or two broken/mindless skills. Not using broken tools to keep the game challenging != intentionally denying yourself game features/changing the game mechanics to keep the game challenging.

OP characters in RPGs are dumb too though, if we're keeping score.

i have been thinking this for a while! but i'm okay with it too! also i think you (or maybe just me) misunderstood lopen's point with kelly kelly - if it were her we would be laughing it up. the crowd reaction would probably be the same as AJ, can argue both better and worse, but we would be fine with it. we don't to AJ because we're all smitten with her.

No that's actually not my point, but is also valid for what it's worth.

My point was that AJ acts like a tool so no one (except the ones that are smitten with her) cares that she gets toasted. Kelly Kelly for as much as she's terrible, and even though I like AJ a lot more, doesn't act like a tool as she is now. And since the fans like her for whatever reason, that means they'd actually care if Bryan heartlessly roasted her.
