i rolled again because i don't want to just keep it to 1 anime. because sometimes i'll be in the mood to watch something but not necessarily what i'm already watching. i won't do every show at once like i mentioned on the first page. but maybe a manageable amount. whether that amount is 2-4, i'll see.

anyway rolled and got Future Boy Conan so i'll do at least an ep of that next

i'm going to say right off the bat that yes i am biased against old shows sorry. this is early Miyazaki and of course i love the classics, but the actual animation i'm not too into for shows like this.

i powered through 3 eps of Conan because i just wanted to be done with it.

it's about a boy who grows up on an island with his gramps away from all civilization after a massive war. one day a girl important to the plot crash lands onto the island and then subsequently gets kidnapped. now it's up to Conan to go on a journey into the unknown world and save the day.

i was not into it at all. in ep 3 he goes to another island and meets fucking Gau from Final Fantasy VI and that section where they're just trying to one up the other was kind of unbearable. it's well made and all but absolutely not for me.

there WAS actually one part i laughed at. Gau actually turns out to be a good farmer. It's established that there are other people on his island but he decides to live away from them because they're a bunch of no good bums. Once in a while a ship comes to their island to exercise their right to slave labor in the guise of trade. Whenever the ship comes, Gau trades some of his crop. His choice of good? Tobacco. at first i thought, oh is it used to barter with the other islanders or something?

but no, he jsut smokes it all and gets high af

Edit: It's been a while since I watched Wixoss, but from what I remember the rules of the game itself were very unclear. Not sure how well it compares to 5Ds, which has very established rules (unlike Duelist Kingdom, where things just kinda happen)

s1 of Wixoss binged and beated

i did watch 1 ep of s2 and currently plan to watch more but i'm going to put that on hold until i get around to the rest of the stuff on the list.

obviously s1 turned out to be way better than i imagined. stellar premise though i do wish the actual card game mechanics could have been explained a little better. from as much as i can tell, each of your turns begins with a GROW stage which i think is similar to Pokemon's Evolution or Vanguard's Level Up. then there's the obvious magic parallel with the color system. and apparently there IS a cost so it's not quite YGO-like in that sense.

the best character... is actually Akira.

i love how she has like no redeeming qualities and seems fully intent on actually MURDERING people. and then now she has this sick ass renegade scar. also her WISH is actually just to ruin someone else's life. i hope she doesn't have a redemption arc or something boring like that.

anyway i'm feeling a strong 7 to a light 8/10

this still leaves me with one currently watching so i will roll again

this feels like it's going to be a slower burn. typically the idealistic-to-a-fault like characters like the MC kind of annoy me. but it also takes a while for them to realize that the system that they believed in is wack. glad there was that moment of reflection relatively early on. not sure if it'll come up again but it was a fine first ep
