I'm up to Sister Splinter.

I've only got sprint. I feel like I can almost beat it. My question is should I keep trying, or come back later? I feel like I've gone through heaps of areas but have no abilities/upgrades to show for it.
If you think you can beat that one, it's a good idea to do it. But you should also gave the float ability by that point I think.

Also I'm definitely standing on the idea that Silk should be used more aggressively the deeper I get into the game. If you're at full HP (or more than 2 hits from death) spam needle throws. If you're 2 hits from death save half your Silk with the expectation you might need to heal soon. If you're 1 hit from death focus on getting enough Silk to heal. If you're down to your Cracked Mask Save/Quit :P
Yeah, I was really bad about using spells in HK, but they just noticeably do so much more damage here that it's not worth hoarding silk for healing.

Having reached Bellheart and while I enjoy this game I think it could use a bit less withholding.

I feel like I should have got a damage upgrade by now Ive been pretty extensive in searching for hidden secrets but mostly only find 20 rosarie whenever I find anything

Ive got one shard mask and feel like Im still 5 more away from that mattering due to consistent double damage.

I also feel like Hornets entire moveset is a bit less precise than HK and like the attack hitbox is a bit more unwieldy

fun game but these things are bringing it down for me

The float Im guessing is the cloak upgrade. You have to fulfill a wish in the Far Fields.

As for what you get for defeating Sister Splinter, its the wall jump ability. With that said, you should get some sleep and the cloak upgrade before trying again.

So is the run up to Last Judge supposed to be this obnoxious? The boss seems kind of manageable but the nearest bench is like two tricky platforming screens away and it's kind of obnoxious. There's a spot up north of the second screen that looks like a secret but I couldn't find any way through.

That was the runback I mentioned earlier. Honestly, once you do it a few times, it's not 'terrible'. The only enemy you might have to fight is the first drill one, though apparently if you hold dash you can just run right past it. You should be able to avoid the 2nd statue guy by going left instead of right, and the other drill (or drills?) can be run past.

Alright well I have gotten fairly okay at the runback but I'm currently too exhausted to do this boss. I can at least reliably reach second phase but she's got some real spicy mix ups that are hard to handle. I think I can get her down when I'm better rested and more focused. I'm having a hard time identifying when the good chances to strike her are during phase 2. She's got the big slam that leaves a nice opening but it's tough to get in a quick strike after she uses the big flaming wheel attack. I've so far been contented to just throw some poison-tipped knives at her, but it feels like if I want her dead I'll need to find a key opportunity to hit her with needle storm. The poison damage is extremely tiny I've noticed (still good, damage is damage after all, but it feels like the 3 ticks combined equal less damage than a single sword strike / knife).

Probably where I call it for the night unfortunately. So let's see. Day 3 Progress Report. All the stuff above, obviously. Pretty tough climb but fun level. Actually on that note. I really love how varied the areas are in this game. Hollow Knight had a limited color pallette (black on black, mostly) to save time on animations and art. It's very clear that Silksong simply...did not do that. Even the drab, grey areas are interesting because of their relationship to the rest of the game which has been full of interesting, saturated locales.

Let's see. I've now got the ability to play music, I know of three doors that that can open, one of which I think I need a better jump or something. Either the aforementioned hookshot or some kind of high jump or double jump. I opened one of them, cleaned the area out for a mask, an upgrade to the default crest, and a charm whose purpose I don't totally understand. It claims to make silk regenerate faster but I'm not sure it's doing anything? I cleared out the Wyrmway or as much as I could for now. Got a neat little Injector thing thing that gives you extra health. Haven't messed around with it though because the guy you have to go to for refills is super deep in the wyrmway and it's just not worth the trip 90% of the time. Oh and I experienced true heartbreak when the little friend who sits at the campfire in the starter town got mauled by a giant monster. I had been checking on the little one for a while to see if they had any new dialogue and poof. Now they're gone.

Found a ton of fleas so far, but I don't know how many more are needed before the caravan is willing to move again. I assume they're probably waiting for a specific story beat in addition to more fleas and the creepy spa owner...

Those guys are dumb as bricks and you can pogo them to death and they will repeatedly do that thunder shockwave attack that doesn't actually have a vertical hurtbox.

Two of the complicate things because when you're pogoing one the other might do a jump attack.

Use harpoon to avoid the nuke.

I need to vent about a minor boss.

I genuinely cannot believe how, after making the Savage Beast fight so BS, they thought to themselves "hey let's do it again, but this time we'll make the floor destructible and have lava under it so you take extra damage if you get knocked into it, his adds are now basically primal aspids with a 2 damage projectile that leaves a LINGERING HITBOX where it lands, give him the ability to summon two of them at the same time, make it so he CAN'T DAMAGE HIS SUMMONS, and remove the walls so the player has less ways to move around and he can't stun himself from hitting them, plus it means he can fly off screen and then charge at you and give you no way to know what height he's at!" and it somehow made it into the release version of the game.

Genuinely one of the worst designed bosses I've ever encountered, I'm only beating it one more time in my life. I'd rather fight Radiant Marmu or Markarth than this absolute piece of trash. I cannot fucking believe they made a 2/10 boss and then actively decided to repeat it and make EVERYTHING worse.

There's a ton of stuff I can do too. There's that area west of The Slab and Sinner's Path.

I'm going to assume it's 5 fleas each time you want it to move.

I found 6 normal fleas and the shifty spa owner for a total of 7 so far, so I think with another 3 the caravan will move again.

Also, I think I might have missed an opportunity to fight the flying boss enemy that can be found at the bottom area of Greymore. The Flea caravan has forced it away. Maybe when it moves on I'll get another chance to fight it.

I decided to give that enemy arena in Hunter's March the swerve for the time being, and have basically scoured as much of every area that I can get to with my current abilities Float Cloth, Wall Grip, 2 extra Nail arts that make the bounce traversals much easier than the standard moveset. Broke out of capture area, need another key to finish that area off though I probably will find it in another zone. Got a health boosting drink which is cool but I haven't toyed with it too much. Opened up a bunch of extra slots on each Nail art so I can run different equps.

TL:DR, spoiler free- made quite a lot of game world exploration, modest amount of story progression.

Speaking of Greymoor, I have settled myself on a decent little grinding spot for Rosary Beads/Strings.

The lower trail between the Halfway Home resting bench and the Rosary String vending machine has some enemies that'll get you enough beads to convert every two or so runs. I run between the Halfway Home rest and the Resting spot east of the String vending machine to reset the enemies, and with the Dash power up you can run through that stretch of the map fairly quickly.

Quite safe too. Enemies there aren't super challenging, and if you do somehow mess up and die, your respawn is close by.
