Penguindrum is just so good. I'm not sure how shojo it is, but I easily rank it as Ikuhara's best work. Anyone who likes Utena and hasn't seen Mawaru Penguindrum; please go find it and watch it. Amazing music, great animation, and a really, really twisted up story about love, fate, and family. If you need a slightly stronger hook than that, this goes into spoilers but it's mostly about the children left behind by the aum shinrikyo sarin gas attacks and other people affected by it or those in it. Hence the very prominent "95" that appears in the opening and why train lines are such a prominent visual motif.
Yurikuma Arashi is...something. I'm pretty sure it's about bullying and suicide, but it just spends so much time being horny over the bear girls I couldn't quite get into it. Sarazanmai is...perhaps the most unfiltered Ikurahara has ever been to the point that I don't think I can post hardly any scenes of the anime on GameFAQs. (It's got a lot of on-screen butt stuff involving Kappa) It's pretty good in spite of that but I'd put both Utena and Penguindrum above it. Really good ED too.
