Im ok with it but platforming sucks and enemies that have momentum still hitting you when you bounce off them is horrible

Unless I missed something the start had basically no beads outside of maybe 10 enemies and at least 5 maps to buy as well as Bench, Vendor, Shell and something else markers as well as Compass and Quill

If you have access to 5 maps and are broke you're skipping enemies or something. The dudes in Hunter's March alone are worth 20-25 each. Plus there's a bunch of Broken Rosary and Rosary Chain items you can break in your inventory for 40+ rosaries each

Got that motherfucker! Holy shit, Crest Of The Beast looks like dogshit after using it for 10 seconds, getting my ass kicked cuz my range is now shorter, then trying to heal only to find it out it replaces your heal with a damage steroid. Fucking RIP

EDIT: Oh even better lmao, it can't use charms LOL
Binding gives it lifesteal too so it could end up better if you're skilled enough but having to adapt to how it works will suck.

The range trade off makes me think its not gonna work out in your favor over time. Like for a single fight it might be fine but how much extra damage are you gonna take with that tiny range learning new enemy patterns? It probably absolutely stomps specific enemies or even certain bosses that you can afford to get close to (maybe eventually we'll bump into stationary enemies/bosses?) but otherwise I'd rather be able to poke them from a good ways out.

Has anybody else opened the Simple Lock in the Docks area? I'm working my way thru there and so far its a pretty steep difficulty curve because so many enemies have ranged attacks that do 2 masks, blegh. Found another Craftmetal but I'm spending a lot of time back tracking to heal lol

Ok I'm about to cave, where's the vertical pogo'ing charm?

Trying to get through hunter's march and it's really busting my balls. It was the one aspect I didn't overly enjoy in HK and it's way worse in this game

EDIT: Not far behind is the PS5 controller. The amount of times I've hit square and the big fucking button in the middle so the menu has popped up during combat is also frustratingly high

No idea but do you have the dash and hover yet? If not, come back with those. Hunter's March does not contain anything progression related *at the moment* and those two movement tools will make it MUCH easier. You can dash up to ledges, jump off, and then hit hover at the peak of your jump to clear some actually impressive distance. A lot of the horizontal bouncing can be outright skipped.

Hovering near bounce pads also makes it MUCH easier to line up your diagonal pogos. It isn't super intuitive at first but once you get used to dash jumping and hovering movement is hella, hella fluid

You do. I didn't notice this until I got a second crest, but there are slots on your crest which you can unlock using Memory Stones. Funny thing is that I got a Memory Stone first and just didn't know what they were for. The crests have different amounts of each trinket color. I can't tell what they are now because I don't have a Memory Stone, but the baseline one lets you wear more yellow.

So the system reminds me of FFX-2 Dress Sphere system tbh. You get different Crests which alter your basic moveset. Default one is "Hunter". I've found 2 more doing challenges Beast and Reaper that change your basic attack, dash attack, and downward attack (pogo). They also alter your Bind (healing) skill in some way Beast changes it to a damage steroid that gives lifesteal but NO healing on use so you better hope you can kill things faster than they kill you, Reaper still heals but for a few seconds afterwards enemies drop Silk balls if you hit them, its a pure upgrade to Hunter's Bind. Each Crest has a different number of slots pre-unlocked and a different number of slots you can open up using Memory Stones. Default Hunter has 1 slot of each Red/Blue/Yellow and can take up to 3 Memory Stones to unlock one more of each. Beast starts off with 2 Red (IDK how equipping two traps works) and NO Yellow or Blue, can only unlock one each Yellow and Blue. Reaper starts off with 1 of each color and can unlock another one of each color. Frankly Reaper is a pure upgrade from your default. Reaper also has an actual downward pogo. Beast's Down Attack is an angled spinning strike

On another note, found one thing that might actually be great beyond the Simple Key door in Docks justifying the 500 rosary cost. There's a Flintscrape tool in there. 3 uses and it sets your Needle on fire for about 30 second, inflicting a damage over time effect to enemies hit. IDK if I just performed better from tackling Beastfly first but I took Moorwing out on my third try using it.

Top Tool is RB+Up, Bottom tool is RB+Down. They use separate ammo counters. It's actually really nice having options. I've got some triple throwing knives that are great for fliers and now a high damage (but hard to aim) javelin. I like the spike trap too but the low ammo bothers me.

Day Two Notes: Reached The Widow but have not beaten that boss yet. Did some exploring, got Crest of the Reaper and Crest of the Wanderer. I like the second one much better than the first perhaps for obvious reasons. Not a fan of the first one. I also bought a key and explored the area west of the place above the little starter town, but it's a really complicated zone with tons of tight, twisting corridors. If there is a reward in that place, I haven't found it yet. While checking my map I noticed a place I hadn't been, went inside and got tagged and bagged. Thrown in prison. That was a fun sequence. Didn't find the Apostate Key though, wonder if I need to explore more or if it's a "Come back later" kind of deal. Now I just need to save up a few more rosaries and I can buy the final mask shard needed to get a sixth mask...for whatever good that will do me in a game where almost all the enemies deal two masks of damage. Also managed to get a second notch on the thread spool. Yippee? Still doesn't feel very impactful but perhaps when I've gotten enough to like. Have two whole spools of thread maybe it'll feel good then. It feels so good to finally have wall climb. There's still one more mobility tool I know I don't have. Some kind of hookshot. I think it was in a trailer somewhere.

One difference I've noted between Silksong boss fights and Hollow Knight boss fights is that Silksong bosses are MUCH more aggressive, with all of them doing some combination of trying to spawn on top of the player (like coming out of the ground in line to cause contact damage to the player), having screen long charge attacks that target the player's horizontal line, or having screen long dive attacks that target the player's vertical line. Compare that to most Hollow Knight bosses who, mostly, didn't target the player directly but rather had attack patterns that didn't really take player action into account. The DLC bosses were better about this mostly but almost all HK bosses had one or two attacks where you could practically ignore the boss and take a breather because they were executing some attack script that, if you got into the attack's blind spot, it had zero chance to hit you.

I think this is actually a good change, boss fights are faster paced and have a higher skill floor, but I think some players are probably having trouble adapting to the more aggressive pacing. It definitely takes some getting used to. I think Hornet's much faster heal skill makes sense in this context because other than during a stagger I think the Knight would really have trouble healing.

Also I'm definitely standing on the idea that Silk should be used more aggressively the deeper I get into the game. If you're at full HP (or more than 2 hits from death) spam needle throws. If you're 2 hits from death save half your Silk with the expectation you might need to heal soon. If you're 1 hit from death focus on getting enough Silk to heal. If you're down to your Cracked Mask Save/Quit :P

Sitting on a full Silk bar because you're concerned you might need to heal eventually will cause fights to drag out increasing the chance you take damage and need to heal. A great example is vs the Skarr Scouts (the medium sized ant guys, so glad to have the Beastiary finally). They take 6 needle hits to kill, or 2 needle throws. Taking the time to get 6 hits in will take a bit of time and opens you up to taking damage (although their pattern isn't hard to figure out) but you can kill them while they're still stancing up if you burn a full Silk bar. This is only getting more true as I get into areas with more ranged enemies and flying enemies.

So regarding crests, what does an evolved crest actually do? I evolved my Hunter's Crest, but it doesn't appear any different to me in the menu.
That one builds up a meter on the left side of the crest icon at the top left. Hit enemy, build meter, when the bar is full you do additional damage. You lose all your meter whenever you get hit though.

Look, I can name a few instances in MY life where I tried to reach mutual understanding
and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em. Just is!

I'm up to Sister Splinter.

I've only got sprint. I feel like I can almost beat it. My question is should I keep trying, or come back later? I feel like I've gone through heaps of areas but have no abilities/upgrades to show for it.
