Precipice Did You See the Ocean? Conquest ~ Conquest (Ablaze) I feel bad about contributing to the inevitable Precipice domination, but man, Renee just isnt as consistently good imo. It has this amazing flamenco part towards the beginning, and then it kinda falls off after that imo. While Precipice doesnt have anything as amazing as the flamenco section, its way more consistently good overall and doesnt have these weird transitions that Renee does that makes it feel all over the place. Seriously, I could go either way here, both songs have parts I like and parts that drag. Evil nutshells gets major credit from me for its tone, the Modern Times-esque comedic factory setting isnt something you hear too often in VGM and this song nails it pretty well despite seemingly being all over the place. Like, the first minute mostly plays the heaviness seriously, but then the silly quacking from 1:03-1:16 clues you in that that was just the start of one big joke. When the hard hits return at 2:03 theyre accompanied by those little squishing sounds to blunt their impact. And then theres the dutiful assembly line march forward that starts at 2:40, except soon the bottom falls out of it and youre left with the downtrodden ending from 3:29 on. In general, songs like this that do exaggerated jokey bits tend to go overboard with them, so I want to recognize that this manages the balance of being entertaining and tonally consistent. Hexed Faith is top tier Kudo. Not just because its an even faster speedrun through his favorite things (though thats certainly part of it), it also uses those things better. The electronic sounds get more to do, most notably the excellent one-two-three punch at 0:49-0:50. The choir gets to interact more with the other instruments. The Unknown Pollution part is actually a little slower, which makes it feel that little bit more forceful. I pray no Kudo kurse strikes here because if anything of his deserves to win, its this.
