I like Ben a lot better (but still not a lot) when I, like Regina, thought Quist's thing for Regina was part of a bit. Thirty year old man having a thing for a sixteen year old girl with the mental capacity of an 8 year old? Creep city. His personality coming out through Quist is interesting I guess.

They generally really suck, and their cross-examination is nigh unbearable, but I do have to admit that well more than 0% of their jokes land. They had a few that got me to reluctantly smile, and I'll at least give them credit for that. And I choose to believe that he's fully aware of how creepy everyone around him trying to woo Regina is, and is totally playing it up to piss everyone around him off, and that's something I can truly appreciate. - MrSmartGuy

Somehow manages to get in the one trial that features a stereoscope. I bet he went home and told his mom "SEE! I TOLD YOU IT WOULD COME IN HANDY SOME DAY!" That's pretty much his main personality trait. But at least he comes in somewhat useful during the trial. I never heard of a stereoscope before this trial. So Ace Attorney taught me something.

The Joker if The Joker were an idiot. He makes cosmetics... he advertises them... but he does not sell them. Also I still don't get why he killed Rex Kyubi. I mean I get that he wanted the gold ingot, but the murder just seems unnecessary? He deserves all the worst things. Also I hate his design.

What kind of first name is Lay? He's a witness in the Magnus McGilded trial. He's a hatter, who doesn't really reappear at any point afterward. He doesn't seem very important in the run of things. Just kind of there. Feels like more what you'd expect from a tutorial trial tbh.

His testimony is blas, but he has a fantastic pony-riding animation, which is more than like 80 other characters can say. - MrSmartGuy

You can't really talk about this guy without spoilers. He's the President of Zheng Fa, which is where Shi-Long Lang is from. Of course we never actually meet the guy because he's been dead for a long time, and replaced by his body double. He's also Shaun Fenn's father, and wanted to see his son before he died. But he wasn't given that chance. Seemed like a decent enough of a President before he died. Weird how pretty much nobody else noticed the switch though. Except Shi-Long Lang's father.

I thought Florent L'Belle was a decent early game culprit that you knew from the get go (like with Redd White). He isn't supposed to be cool or badass or tragic or smart. He fits the arrogant but notably flawed portrayal that is fun to see get their comeuppance. You want to see this guy fall from his pillar the moment he is introduced to Apollo.

I ranked him 110 so that placed him in the top third of my ranking above every other 5-2 case exclusive character except for Damien Tenma.

Damn there is someone else from 2-3 I really would have liked to see below Ben/Trilo

I'm going to cover this writeup in spoilers because I can't remember this case all too well. I mean I remember playing it, but it's a blur to me. Pierce was a surgeon, and engaged to Selena Sprocket. After she died because she told him to save her brother instead, he became the Sprocket family butler. Yes, the butler did it finally. Surprised it took that long.

This guy is so unspeakably lame its almost funny. Ive played fangames with villains with more going for them than this. Incredibly bad and derivitive writing for a character so late in the series - Paratroopa1

Windibank is one of the most disappointing characters to me, because if it weren't for like ... Idunno, 10 seconds? of footage, he would be so much better. It's insane how much a simple tasteless suicide joke could ruin a character in my eyes.

Meekins is actually perfectly acceptable if it weren't for that one megaphone sound effect.

Bruce Goodman is one of those characters who would rank weirdly high on my list if only because of my utter fascination for side characters and fan works surrounding them. I've come across more than a few creators who made some really banger 1-5 centric artwork and fic back in the day .....

Juror 6 and Mary being right next to each other is a pretty interesting result. They could be related, or even the same person at different ages.

Florent L'Belle is maybe the main reason why 5-2 doesn't work for me. The virtue of 1-1 and 1-2 is that they're short. I know "figuring out who did it" isn't the point of most AA cases, but when they make it obvious and then on top of that I have to trod through yokai-land... sigh. He doesn't even fit with the case's theme. They just wanted to have a joker-coded perfume guy.

I kinda like L'Belle. I think his "super busy secretary" with the shoulder cell phones is a fun design, as is the vain beautician. But the design is so damn bad.

Unfortunately found some more errors, going to have to fix them. Not sure how it happened because it's... weird. Because my checks should have covered it. But I'm going to retally some things, shouldn't take too long to fix everything. If anything changes I'll update it here. There were sporadic entries that were entered wrong, about 1/4th of them for one user. But the rest were correct.

I'm not sure if that's a real image of them or not, but it's the closest thing I could find. There they are, probably talking about Phoenix Wright's outrageous hairstyle. On the topic of Constantine, I recently replayed PLvPW actually, and there's a line that Luke has in the game regarding him that I just cannot free from my brain, and I would like to posit this and see if anyone else might have a better time trying to parse anything from this. For the record, there is no context to this, other than Maya calling Constantine the Dog of the Order.

The Blind kid who gets accused of murder. He's from Borginia, and he's a singer. Also he doesn't speak English. Many of these things aren't even true. And I didn't make them up. He did. Communicating with Machi proves to be a challenge for Apollo, who really does get some of the worst clients for his first couple of cases. He's ranked the worst out of all the AJ clients, which is not a surprise. Though to be fair one of them is literally Hobonix.

Machi Tobaye is a defendant in case 4-3. Widely considered to be the worst case in the series, Machi is a not insignificant reason why. Its extremely hard to feel sympathy for this kid. He is ostensibly a blind pianist, but hes also wrapped up in a conspiracy to smuggle exotic eggs. 4-3 is a bad case and I think a lot of players displace their frustration with it onto this character. - colliding

Doug Swallow tried to save Phoenix's life. He also had the misfortunate of dating Dahlia. So you can't really hate him that much. As far as victims go, he seems like a decent person. Wocky Kitaki the wannabe gangster who you either find cute or annoying. Apollo Justices' second lowest rated client. Wocky actually wants to be found guilty. His development is pretty decent, but getting there can be a bit... rough. Not the worst trial of AJ though, at least. So he's got that going for him. Also his parents are much better than him.

Stealing my write-up from years ago because it's still fine. Sal Manella is what I think of when I think of SDragonRocker (Hey! Remember him? No? Just me? Damn.). Maybe not the weight. But certainly his personality. Speaking in 1337 and in acronyms can be annoying. But FWIW, he's still a pretty interesting character. He helped Vasquez hide her crime. Even though she treated him like dirt. He also came up with the idea of Pink Princess. I have to say, when I saw him for the first time I thought that he was the "4th Grader" that was mentioned by Oldbag. Yeah, he's too tall, too big to fit through the crack. But I thought that was going to be something hard to prove, and that he was the murderer all along. Then I realized he was the director, and not the 4th grader. But I wasn't too far off on thinking that he was involved somehow. I just wasn't sure how exactly.

That he's not the worst father in the series by a longshot is a testament to how bad some of the parents in this series is. I'm not even sure he'd make a list of Top 10. He is, however, a decent guy and a good circus master. So he's got that going for him. He pays his employees, even when the circus isn't doing well. He also took in the Dingling brothers. He's named for the Russell brother's circus. Though I'm surprised he wasn't named Bailey or Barnum Berry. Also his mustache may or may not be fake.

Zak Gramarye is a jerk. You know the meme. I was a bit surprised he lasted this long. But honestly he's not as bad as people make him out to be, I think. Oh he's definitely still a jerk. But he also has his positive points. Him abandoning Trucy is definitely not one of them, though let's be honest she never had a chance until Nick became her dad. But he did want to protect Valant, even though Valant framed him (though I don't think he knew that). I think him firing Kristoph was totally fair. Yeah, it was over a poker game, but he read the man, and his plan was always to escape anyway. So that would have meant Trucy being raised by Kristoph. You know... AJ could have been avoided if Zak had any friends willing to take Trucy in instead of leaving her to his lawyer and he just ran away like planned. Also we have our first Top 10 Drop! He's actually somewhat popular, but people seem to really love him or hate him, and people are more on the 'hate' side.

Zak Gramarye is a jerk. It's unfathomable how any character in any fictional work can be so poorly written, with motivation that makes less than zero sense, but here we are. He would be dead last if it weren't for the hiimdaisy comics, I think. But those kinda warp him back around to being funny, so sure. You just barely escape my bottom 5. - MrSmartGuy

Zak Gramarye / Shadi Smith is, I imagine, last on the list for many people (not me he was merely 247). He gained meme status thanks to some comics that explained in painstaking detail how much of a jerk he is. And yes hes quite a bad person. Hes a bad person in a way that really doesnt make much sense, but honestly almost every character in Apollo Justice (the game) acts in ways that are nonsensical. - Colliding

agree. It is kind of self aware that it is dumb, and it is certainly better then being forced to watch the same bad CGI sequence 30 times

Edit: I would feel a lot less negative about Zak if the narrative treated him like the monster he is. I get that he's Trucy's father, but having the guy who ruined Phoenix's career and tried to do it a second time in a framed portrait in the office is gross

I wouldn't characterize Russell Berry as a bad dad. Dude genuinely loved Regina. Keeping her sheltered the way he did was certainly irresponsible, but I reserve "bad dad" status for those who intentionally do things to hurt their kids
