Recently, I had a bunch of users submit rankings of Ace Attorney Characters. We had quite a few votes, and I've finished tallying the results! I gave a little more weight to people's top 20 lists, and I think we've wound up with a pretty good list. We'll see, though.

Expect short writeups for some of these characters because yeah they exist and that's about it.

Why 367? That's how many people ranked! Our biggest list yet! Note: I tried to mitigate characters who weren't on more lists slightly, so that leaving a character off a list didn't hurt them as much. This is less true of characters on 5 or fewer lists.)

Our last place character is Ka-Shi Nou. He's a pretty forgettable character that adds very little to Ace Attorney Investigations. Especially in a case that is already long enough imo. He has nothing on the original Mask De Masque. Or really any characters in the series. I don't think we even really learn anything about him.

Mask De Masque II, aka Ka-Shi Nou takes the last spot on my list. In AAI1-5, he is a thief hired by Manny Coachen to steal a statue, I think. In any case, hes the second victim of a case that really didnt need two victims. Theres absolutely zero backstory to this guy and he couldnt be less important. He also is responsible for drawing out what is already an extremely drawn out case by opening the player up to more Larry/Oldbag shenanigans. - Colliding

Selden was a prisoner who hid a fairly important treasure, but never actually appears in the game. He's definitely one of those "he exists' characters. He shares a name with a Sherlock Holmes character.

Well this certainly exists. It even plays a minor part in the final case of AAI. Yet it's still ranked higher than Mask De Masque 2. Feels more like a prop than a character (or in the case of the game, evidence rather than a character) but I digress!

RA victim from AAI2. We don't learn a whole lot about him, but he plays a pretty significant role in plot of the game. He's Rosie Ringer's boyfriend, and is killed when he thinks he's witnessing the kidnapping of Di-Jun Wang.

Another character that definitely exists. We never really learn much about her other than that Calisto Yew is her sister. Of course that's not even true. She was an only child. But her death causes the formation of the Yatagarasu, which is pretty significant at least.

A character from Spirits of Justice. He wanted to be a monk, but ended up as a burglar. He tried to steal the orb, but it had already been stolen. He encouraged Albhi Urgaid and was ultimately killed by Pees'lubn Andistan'dhin. For a tutorial case, that one is a bit long too.

Kane Bullard is less forgettable, ironically, because the game makes several jokes at his expense about how unremarkable he is.

One of the more than a few hitmen in the Ace Attorney Universe. Murdered by his own defense attorney. And the person who hired him for the job in the first place. He doesn't seem like the smartest bulb in the bunch.

Our first culprit! albeit an accidental one. She's not particularly sympathetic, even despite the circumstances. She's married to John Garrideb, and is a bit of an abusive spouse. There could have been a lot of ways to go with her character to make her more sympathetic like realizing it was an accident, and trying to get Soseki Natsume acquitted without admitting the truth

I will never know why Ace Attorney leans on physical abuse for their comedy so much. You will likely notice many of my other rankings reflect this opinion later. But this is the character that suffers the most. She regularly scalds her husband with hot coffee, slaps him so hard it leaves red marks on his face, and throws deadly items at him during a misunderstanding, which then very well could have led to the death of an innocent passerby. In order to try and continue to deny involvement, she then manipulates her fellow jurors into convicting an innocent foreign man. What a colossal, irredeemable piece of shit she is. - MrSmartGuy

Jesus christ what were they thinking. GAA1 was really threatening to lose me there for a bit because they thought this would be a funny character. Not funny at all - Paratroopa1

While the twist is funny, the Prosecution and Defense would have had her removed from the jury almost instantly. Also it's rather disappointing nothing ever came of the fact that the jury pools weren't as random as they should have been. - Runemistress

Our first original trilogy character! And it's no surprise that it's a Victim. He's a blackmailer who was blackmailing someone. He also conveniently forgot to address his blackmail letter. Just another character who has no lines, and we know little to nothing about.

He killed Cece Yew. If Manfred Von Karma was prosecutor, I think we would have avoided a bunch of AAI. Where's a corrupt prosecutor when you need one!? Not particularly sympathetic, but has some people who think he's an interesting enough character to put him in their top half.

One of the worst characters in the series because besides being a completely generic guy, they spill way too much ink on him. Hes way too important for how boring he is and thats worse than being a throwaway. AAI1 is just written really badly - Paratroopa1

Joan was my last place so Im very happy
she got bounced so early. Agree with everything that was said. There are parts of that case I actually like but the fact they try to use her in a comedic role felt super gross.

There are some loathsome characters in this series I love but Joan is the one I feel like they completely whiffed on mostly because of the weird way they try to frame it.

I feel like his whole character boils down to "Interpol Agent" and that's all. Miles Edgeworth nearly gets accused of his murder. I'd like to imagine there's a universe where Miles Edgeworth has to call Phoenix Wright and say "Yes, Wright? I've been accused of murder. Yes, again. I need you to represent me again." AAI really doesn't have the best victims.

We never learn anything about him, other than that LeBlanc notes that he played on his phone a lot, which makes him canonically the closest thing Ace Attorney has to a gacha gamer. - MrSmartGuy

Kind of a dickwad. But I still stand by that he has the best breakdown of Investigations 1. Confess the Truth 2009 is a top 5 song in the series, and watching Lance break out of his handcuffs and burst into tears as it starts up is one of the more memorable moments of a horribly unmemorable game for me. - MrSmartGuy

I like Bucky a decent bit, he's kinda adorable. Not mad about him this low though.

She's not the character I hate personally the most, but she's the most "why" character. Bad design, awful gimmick, no depth, pretty large role, and just...no redeeming characteristics at all. There are characters I personally hate more, but there's at least a few things I like about them. Joan's got nothing.

Odie Asman used to be a reporter, but then he became an investor. And he's pretty tied into the big picture of Ace Attorney Resolve. He's the reporter that got information from Enoch Drebber that Genshin Asogi was seen alive. Which set so much of the plot in motion. Ultimately we don't really learn much about him. Including why he chose to work with drebber later.

The least important character that you have to stare at for the longest time because you dont fucking know what youre supposed to click on - Paratroopa1

I'm guessing she's another character someone got mixed up and almost put them in their top half. Rosie Ringer is a defense attorney. I wish we had learned more about her.Would have been nice to see something about her as a defense attorney, especially since she made it on to the Prosecutorial Excellence Committee.

Selena seems like a nice enough of a person. She gave up her life to protect her brother. And it seemed like she'd make a decent President of her company. For a dead character who's not a victim, she has more personality than a lot of the other victims of actual cases.

One of the many many many magicians in Ace Attorney. Seriously, there's a LOT of magicians. I think there may be more magicians than defense attorneys, detectives, or prosecutors. If not, it's probably close. We don't really know much about him, other than he was a big fan of Mr. Reus. We don't even know if his part in the prank was in good fun, or malicious.

Seems like a mostly decent guy. Wanted to learn to make Udon Noodles and try to talk Geiru into taking a different path. Not a very good communicator. And that was his tragic downfall.
