Mostly just beating games these days. Once I (mostly) gave up on 100% completion I started enjoying games a lot more.

Though I'm also more likely to drop a game that sucks these days without beating it, so maybe my actual goal is just to have fun?

Mostly just to have fun.

Though I do put more effort into beating games that have a story these days.

I tend to start out trying to complete all the available content as I go, then about the halfway point realise that I've missed way more than I thought I had and just head to the end. At no point do I give even the slightest shit about achievements.

I like the experience of completionism in the sense that a lot of my favorite parts of games are really tedious nook-and-cranny hyper scanning and all the extra exploration/challenge that come with it.

but I'm also not someone who gets a lot of reward signal from seeing a 100% or medal or whatever. so the choice to go that far is mostly to experience the parts of games I find most fun

I'm also just too busy to play a lot of games and haven't been in a position most of my life to acquire as many as most game-loving people do. So...what I'm getting at is I've been wired to find the best experience is maximizing the most out of the few games I play. Pokemon isn't done until I've "done everything i can do with it" but if there's some version exclusive I'm not in the situation to get, I won't think of that as imperfect.

similarly, I go for personal unmarked achievements a lot (speedrunning and not ever bothering to be a part of the communities aligns with this tendency)---i want to go as far as I can with the games I play. but the journey is more important than the destination, I don't receive any more satisfaction from showing it off or seeing a sign that I did it.

It's a game by game basis for me. Some games I play purely for fun, or to relax, others I try to get everything or close to it if I really love the game, other games I enjoy analyzing the artistry and design through writing. So it really varies for me, but ultimately I just enjoy playing as wide a variety of games as possible.

The goal is to beat the game as well as do all the *reasonable* side quests. Usually I skip post game and things like super bosses. I realize there's some ambiguity here, so it'll sometimes come down to what I feel like doing. The idea is to get a good amount of enjoyment during the game without doing anything tedious. I'll put games off to the side (sometimes indefinitely) if I'm not having fun or need a break.

I'm also starting to reconsider if I may be doing too much in certain games, and I should just move towards the end sometimes. I typically only have time for a couple games per year these days.

Achievements usually weigh little into what I decide to do for a game...the one time I went for Platinum for FFXIII-2 actually ended in a broken PS3 controller, which happened when I was holding down the control stick for some "get xxx steps on a chocobo" achievement, which was the last one I needed.

Beat game
If I'm not having fun beating game, quit playing game
If I enjoy it a lot, play it again for 100% (or something reasonably close if true 100% is beyond fun, like e.g Balatro)

I wish I could stop playing bad or even meh games. But Im wired to want to at least finish every game I start.

I rarely 100%/Platinum a game unless I really enjoy it or Im only a few easy trophies away.

I will 100% a game if I love it enough and if the trophies aren't absurdly challenging, or extremely tedious. Having a trophy for collecting every random useless object in the world is not fun, game devs please stop that. Unless it's a manageably small number.

Though I tend to play the same games over and over (aka Souls games) so I'm bound to get some platinums here and there.
