I tend to stick with physical so I'm not really sure what I think of the Key Card system.

I went for the system from the start, since the bundle only gives you the digital version of the game, and I want to go physical whenever possible.

Oh, I didn't even realize that. That definitely makes me even more okay going with the non-bundled system if it comes to that. I remember getting the WWHD-bundled Wii U and being a little disappointed that it was a digital copy (and incidentally, my console's disc reader was defective out of the box, so I didn't know until I had played through that game and tried to move onto the next).

I've been trying for the bundle for the same reasons but at this point, in that scenario I would have just gone with the solo system.

That's just me though. A $30 discount isn't nothing, so I get your reservations.

My thinking is, given I want the game, better to save the money. Worst case scenario, I'm paying the full cost at launch or a few months later. And if I have to wait to get the system, it's fine, I really haven't (and don't expect) a lot of gaming time in the next 6 months anyway.

If anyone in Canada still cares, seems like Gamestop re-balanced their bundle pre-orders across the country and pretty much all locations have pre-orders available today

ftr the 4.5m numbers are Sony's FY Q3 numbers for the respective systems, aka PS4/5s Oct-Dec (both having launched Mid-Nov)

There were over 2.2 million people in Japan alone that signed up for the Nintendo Store pre-order lottery. No clue how many actually got picked, but the highest launch week of any console over there was like ~630k for the PS2. So if even half of those people manage to get one from either Nintendo or other retailers, then damn.

I was out of town so couldn't preorder at my store (and didn't want to try running the online gauntlet) but luckily my store still had MK bundle available today when I got back so I'm locked in. yay...

Only question I have which I didn't look up before is whether 3rd party controllers that worked w/ Switch would also work with Switch 2 - anybody know? certainly would save a bit of change if so...

As far as we know, yes.

The controllers are expected to work with the somewhat obvious caveat of no C button. If any of the C button stuff seemed appealing to you, you would need a new controller.

I'm trying to remain optimistic but given the numbers we've heard, if I don't get picked in Nintendo's lottery I doubt I'll be able to get one early. Still want to kick my internet for disconnecting while I was in line on Best Buy. Sounds like I would have had a really good shot at getting one. :-\

Yeah. And not only that but I hadn't thought about the controller compatibility, and was going to buy the pro controller w/ the system but my credit card was declined - and it's never declined (opted to fully pay for bundle now instead of just making a deposit). So asked cashier to re-run w/o controller and card accepted. So that also saved $100+ cdn (though I guess i could've refunded it later but still).

The Karting Gods are looking out for me...

I don't know anything about the system and I've avoided looking at the MKWorld direct so not sure where the C button would come into play? Worse case maybe I can map the C button to some other button on this controller, there's more than a few unused buttons.

I can pretty comfortably say that I could make do without it most of the time.

The C-Button is for GameChat, so you should be fine without

Got one, my oldest daughter got one. Hopefully they'll have some normal stock by Christmas so I can get my kids one for themselves. Until then we'll share.

Even if I get the chance to order a Mario Kart bundle in place of my console-only preorder, I probably shouldn't if it's not clear how long it'll be delayed.

I'm going to guess there will be SOME minimal walk-in (or, more aptly, wait-in-line-overnight) availability but not a heck of a lot. The pre-order numbers are currently sitting at around 6 million and the estimated number produced by launch date is 6-8 million, and the official Nintendo pre-orders haven't even happened in the States.

You'll almost certainly need a pre-order to get one. Can't remember the last time at launch you didn't, but then again PS5 came out during covid shortages.

I'd guess there'll be some available for purchase, especially since people will cancel their pre-orders.

I don't think this is true. Especially since Nintendo is still holding stock for their own pre-orders, which haven't started yet in most countries. The only number we have is that over 2 million people in Japan are interested in pre-ordering Switch 2.

If you got your preorder from walmart, especially during the second wave of pre-orders, you might want to double check that your preorder is still standing.

oh I got my invitation last night and it's good until monday afternoon

I still have my walmart preorder so gonna check if a coworker still wants one or not, but regardless I"ll be using this invite to get myself the Gamecube controller

Yeah, met the requirement. I did it same day as the announcement, but I don't think I was rushing or anything.

My understanding is that everyone who meets the minimum qualifications is on even playing ground, and from there it's random.

How soon did you register to be on the interest list? It is supposed to be in chronological order among those who met the NSO requirements. I'm in a family plan so I didn't meet the qualifications.

Not Canadian, but I signed up for the list maybe four hours after it went up and I haven't gotten an invite. Meets all the requirements.
